Lucky bells, daigremontiana and furry princess.

I think I can say the blooming season has started. Though some succulents like to bloom throughout the winter too, spring and supper is usually the peak. Plus I hope some of the terribly neglected cacti will bloom too. I saw a few tiny buds, but most is still sleeping.

The two Kalanchoe here are the most showy right now. Both didn't bloom lat year and I though I will have to asy good bye to both of them. Not just yet :)

First up - Kalanchoe Lucky Bells. I had a huge plant before and I think it was last year that it got attacked by aphids and I jut threw all away. It was just too damaged and to many buggers. I managed to save few of the tiny seedlings that pop on the side of the leaves and started to grow own roots.

They did survive, grew and now bloom.
In the meantime I also found few wild ones growing in few pots with other plants. They are no supposed to be here, but in this case I was glad I had some backup.

This one has very narrow leaves, comparing to the second one (a little further down) an larger red flower.

The second one is Kalanchoe daigremontiana. It bloomed only once for me before and I think the flowers were more yellow. And that wa few years ago. Since then it grew super slow, almost as if it was dormant waiting for the right time.

I planted multiple young seedlings in one pot and they just lept there for 2 years or so. Only last year they started to grow faster and finally showed some flowers.

They starte to open earlier than the Lucky Bells and you can see that most already faded.

It is not he best looking plant with lots of damage on the leaves. It can handle strong sun and heat, but with a price I guess. he leaves are prettier though with their tiger pattern.

Again - plenty of young plans dropped and rooted on heir own. This one is like a weed and I don't really have to take any cuttings. There are always some new plants in this, or other pots.

As a bonus a real weed :) Little Oxalis. I do have to pull them from time to time or they would take over all the pots. They always come back anyway. I like how it looks, especially when it start to bloom, but it starts to be a bit annoying.

And these are the babies. Dozens on each leaf and hundreds on each plant. They fall with any light touch or heavier wind. I have no control over them :D

Both of them, so you can compare the flowers an leaves.

Bonus hot with furry assistant. It's #Caturday after all.
I was moving some pots around and she was too curious to see what's going on. She stayed for the photoshoot too. Good putty tat :)

One well posed photo and we are done. No more.
She also provided a nice background on one of the photos above if you want to scroll back.

I love this bloom! Congratulations!
My Kalanchoes are not blooming yet.

I have a question:
can i grow Lucky bells from a leaf?
I'm going to misbehave 😉, in the passage between private houses near the wall this Kalanchoe grows and I'm going to tear off 2-3 leaves 🤫

I am not sure, I never tried. They grow those little plantlets on the leaf edge like the other one too. Maybe better to find one of the little babies.

It's so beautiful @ewkaw and even your cat loves it. I wish I could get one of those babies. Btw, for the first and second types, do you know how long they bloom in a year?

I am very familiar with this plant from both the Caribbean and here in Cambodia. I never knew the international or common name of it, and the Khmer name for it is just a name, doesn't translate to anything cool. However, I love that in the Caribbean many countries call it the "leaf of life" because new leaves grow from the leaf tips, so cool. We use it just like aloe vera here at home, it's very similar.

I didn't know they grow in Cambodia :). There is another cool name for them: Mother of thousands. Which is very fitting too considering how many of the little babies it can produce in a year.
Yes they can be used like Aloe, though I never did.

Really awesome! I'm jealous that you're able to have plants and a cat. My cats have made sure that growing green things are not welcome in the house; they either eat them or just shove them onto the floor.

The cat picture is pretty epic. 😀

I had no idea what their name was! Yours seems further ahead than we are here, although spring has already started to bloom. Seems we don't get winter anymore!
