Hello old friend

garden helios 4.jpg

Whenever I travel I take my trusty Nikon with me with the 3 usual lenses. The set is tested and heavily used on different occasions. But it is heavy and takes a lot of space. So this time decided to leave it behind and take just the tiny (comparing to Nikon) Sony body, borrow the lenses from my brother and see how that goes.

I am not gonna hide, I do miss my trusty Sigma 105. I miss it terribly. We could have had so much fun! All the bugs, bees an spiders hiding in the flowers are missing it too. I am sure of that.

But, since I don't have any other option, I am almost forced to use other lenses. And this as the first one I picked - Helios 40-2. I remember I did enjoy it the last time and was blown away by the bokeh effect.

I also remembered that it took me a while to learn it and how to get the satisfying results. And yes - I forgot that so I have to learn that again :p.

This is a fully manual lens and even though the Sony camera helps with the focus it is still a lot of hit and miss.

I took it to the garden or a quick test. The early afternoon with slowly setting sun was just prefect, though I still didn't get what I was looking for.

I did get some swirls (it is a master of swirly bokeh alter all) and some nice bubbles. But it is still not the bokeh that makes you go dizzy and you forget what you are supposed to look at. All you see is the crazy bubbles.

It’s heavy to take it around all the time, I so know.
Taking a smaller body and borrowing from your brother the lenses seems to work though.
Great captures. Although I understand you miss yours.
Thanks for sharing 😎
Have a great evening 👋🏻😊

Thank you!
I tried Canon 5D and it is like a brick :D The Nikon is lighter and Sony is the smallest and lightest of the all. A very nice traveling camera.

Awww... That lens is a legend for many... I first read about it in one of your posts when I was new to #Hive, but recently I saw one that a friend of mine has.... And you take exquisite photos with it!.... Although I understand when you speak so fondly of your 105mm.... I have a Tokina 100mm macro and I find it impossible to go out in the countryside without it (I've even used it for street photography)... It seems to me that those kind of focal lengths between 90 and 105mm in macro lenses, are an excellent way to exercise your "photographic instinct"... Greetings dear @ewkaw friend!... Thanks for sharing!

Oh yes, my 105 is usually the go to lens and if I don't know what to take, this is the one I pick. It is great even though it is pretty big and heavy.
And Helios.. well... its Helios :D A legend!

What a pleasure to see you back 😇 ...and to see those wonderful shots ! The bokeh effect with that Helios lens is really superb, and what else can I say about your framings ?

I completely get what you're saying about being separated from your usual equipment...Even with my modest photographic skills haha ^^

Have a good day 🌻

Haha, this is maybe the most difficult thing is modern world, the constant run for time and timing !.. and to think that the machines were supposed to give us more time ^^ !

Ultimately, I think we're not mature enough as a species for such tools... well, it requires an enormous amount of discipline and that's perhaps the hardest thing for us in general !

That's my perpetual question, heheh, what do I take when traveling to a new destination :) Always compromise flexibility/weight.
I've never used a Helios lens but by looking at some of the photos I could tell its presence, the bokeh is so specific and beautiful.
I am still not convinced the newest mirrorless cameras are better, especially when it comes to the battery management and I would avoid bringing a dozen of them with me and then the need to stay awake and recharge them all... :)

I tried.. next time I take my Nikon :P

Helios is amazing. If you ever have a change to get - get it. Either way the 44-2 or 40-3 Both good, though second better ;)

Awesome captures, as always Ewcia! If you borrowed the lenses from your brother, does it mean you’re visiting Poland? 😁💙

I have fond memories of the Bleeding Heart Trees. My mother always had a pair in her yard and she would take care of those plants better than she took care of us! Sadly they didn't survive a big move across Canada and she is now struggling to find any in a greenhouse near her. Disappointing! Her new place won't feel like home until those bushes are back!

Oh my.. that is some special tree. Do you have some photos of it? The ones here are just small bushes. I really hope she finds it.

Sorry for the late reply, I am a bit behind :p

Nice photos with a different lens. I still don’t know how to use proper camera with strange lenses! Too complicated for me!😂
