FungiFriday - Barkland

Gymnopilus suberis orange mushrooms pt 4.jpg

The heat came back, and with that, the chance to find fresh mushrooms is even smaller than normally (which were already almost nonexistent). It will take a while for the pop to start popping when it finally cools down and the rain comes. Everything around is dry to a crisp. Not even weeds want to grow.

My mushroom folder still has some finds I shot last fall. These were spotted in Portugal around cork trees. All the fallen branches and leaves are a perfect spot for them, and this type grows only on the cork oak bark. I didn't see them anywhere else anyway.

Gymnopilus suberis

Lovely orange hats that draw attention among all the dead grasses (after the summer heat), leaves, and peaces of bark. They have great conditions to spread after the bark is taken from the trees during the summer months (the cork you find in wine bottles is tree bark; you can google the production process if you are interested, but first the tree has to be stripped down from it), and tons of little bits and smaller branches are left on piles to decay.

Is that mycelium, or a thick spiderweb?

You can notice the pattern on the hats and a darker ring on the leg just under it.

The little ones look absolutely adorable!
With the darker orange colour they almost look like the red Amanitas. They are missing some famous spots though.

Can you spot the snail? Some great camouflaging skills here :)

Oh wait.. even smaller ones!! They almost don't look like mushrooms here.

Hold on a minute..
Same place,
same colour,
same addiction to barks :p

Not my dog by the way.

Hello hello! I didn't know this community, really in Hive there is room for everything, but the best thing is the nice presentation face through these incredible images. The fungi are beautiful, I have always liked them, but they are one of those few pleasures that I agree with eventually. It has never crossed my mind to photograph them, and seeing them up close like this is inspiring. The first pictures are wonderful, but seeing the images you took from below are quite an experience, bravo, it's a divine gallery 🍄
