-28°Celsius and thriving!

Be it masochism or something else, I’m a sucker for the extreme below freezing temperatures. There is just something so alluring about the cold and crisp air that can seriously hurt you if you don’t know how to dress for it.

IMG_6095.jpeg

I hate being cold but I’d take the dry -30°C over rainy +2°C any day!

When I woke up this morning and pulled back the heavy velvet curtains, I saw the bedroom windows had frosted on the inside. Beautiful, but that tells you how cold it is in here. Don’t worry though, these and the kitchen windows are the only ones with frost on them because of the moisture and shut curtains. Everywhere else it’s so dry no frost will form. I could leave the curtains open, add more insulation or turn down the heating to prevent condensation but honestly it’s not a big deal. These below -15°C temps propably won’t last more than a week so I’m not too bothered by it.

I just finished a new Icelandic wool sweater, perfectly in time for this even colder weather. It was quite funny that the dog tried to refuce to come outside with me and whined the whole two minutes while I took a few selfies. Maybe I need to knit her a sweater and wool socks too, though I’m pretty sure she’s hate them.

Truth be told, I haven’t been hanging much outside even though I know how to dress for this weather and like it. I’ve been in a knitting mood for the holidays and have started a new project immediately after finishing one. I have plenty of supplies so I don’t need to venture out for much of anything. This sweater I made for myself has a very unisex pattern so I think I’m gonna make my brother one but in different colours.

Wish we would get some decent snowfall where I live to go with the cold winter temperatures but that's not happening so far this winter. Your photographs look beautiful as does the soft, cozy Icelandic sweater you made. I know your brother will be thrilled when you give him the knitted sweater you're making for him. Very thoughtful and sweet of you!

Happy New Year! @eveuncovered

Sorry, we took all the snow early in the winter. I promise to be bored of it in two months when I once again have to shovel the whole yard from fresh snow 😅

Partly why I’m making this sweater is so I can free up space for new yarn for myself. 😝

It’s a bit deceiving because the thermometer is next to the window, it’s not that cold inside :)

Blimey that sounds brutally cold and would actually swap your weather for ours right now. Wet, very very wet to be precise and insanely windy. Snow and stillness, sounds nice!!

I did hear you have some pretty extreme weather in the UK at the moment. The worst cold I ever felt was a week in September in London, jesus christ I hated it, the houses there fucking suck and I was miserable the whole time. Now I’d know to pack winter clothes if I visited UK in the autumn.

Compared to what you have, they aren’t as well insulated or built in many cases.

When we get that cold in Minnesota, I am never smiling. You are tougher than me...

You just don’t have the right clothes, that can be fixed!

I miss to cold. Here in Ireland it is around +7 and damp so it feels cold and miserable. I long for the crisp freshness of real cold.

I’ve only been to Ireland in the summer but I believe you because I’ve been to London in the autumn was severy under dressed.

I need one of those sweaters.

I’ve done cryo therapy @ -220°for 2.5 minutes. Even yet, I still I can’t imagine living in negative temperatures for weeks like you do. Do you enjoy tropical weather? Or is your body used to the cold so much it dislikes extreme warmth?

Well the cryo thing is just some faff and has nothing to do with actual life in the cold climate. I loooove warm weather, preferrably not hotter than 30 though, unless there is a pool I can be near or in all the time and sleep in a cool room. I’m the first one out in a bikini when it’s warm enough here in the north, and I also don’t burn easily unlike many other northern folk.

Oh I know cryo is nothing compared to actually living a frigid life. 30 is about as hot as I like it too. If there’s an ocean/lake/pool then I can handle 40s, but I am never going to be a desert dweller.
Sounds like you can thrive in pretty much any climate.

Yeah, I’m like a cockroach 😝

Deserts do sound quite unpleasant and scary. Though I don’t drink much water as is so maybe I’d survive just fine in Sahara too.

This is the only time comparing oneself to a cockroach is a good thing.
I just imagine a dry mouth, sand in my eyes, and sporadic scorpion stings. Big no thanks.

I 100% agree on this. If it's going to be anything below 5, I'd prefer it be below -10 so the ground's frozen and any precipitation is snow. :).

It's also much nicer when the dogs don't come in the house with mud on their feet.

That is a very good point, the entryway is much cleaner in the wintertime!

I'm totally with you here but... a lighty rainy 18-21 gives me such reminiscence for home vibes (being english and all). can't beat it.

Tbh, the -30 or whatever we were in up north China, was far easier to tolerate than the 0 or -1 in Shanghai. Something about the moisture in the air makes it so much sharper and unpleasant. Watching ice form on my face was just fun, really

We're trying to go Japan for skiing in february. Last year skiing in China gave us a HUGE appetite for this crisp, clear snowy wonderland scenario. I'm officially a winter person ever since!

HNY =D

Well I do like a good autumn storm with heavy rain, but I prefer to stay inside for that and hope it doesn’t last for weeks.

The moisture really gets you, digging in the cold to the bones, dry cold is much easier to deal with.

I’m not much of a skier but the scenery of white powder snow is fantastic!

You are a very hot woman, you heat up the atmosphere. Who knows, if it weren't for you, it would have been -50 degrees.
