Happy Birthday Suomi Finland!
In celebration of our beloved 105-year-old country we hosted a fancy little dinner party on the 6th of December.
I really put my best foot forward and took great care with the decorations and food. Food and drinks are of course the most important part of every gathering, but I think it's almost as important to have everything set up beautifully.
I managed to snap a few photos during the day and a few more after dark before the guest were seated.
I had a lot of fun doing the cake and I was pretty proud of my creation, even though it didn't turn out absolutely perfect, always room for improvement. The cake is chocolate and cranberries, decorated with freeze-dried raspberries, rosemary, and a dusting of gold for good measure. I also added frozen cranberries when I displayed the cake in the evening but I didn't have time to take pictures of it, too busy serving.
The man entertained the quests and served some bubbly, while I finished the dinner. Don't worry, the heels were on me feet when quests arrived, this picture was taken before.
I made a lot of food, enough to snack on for the rest of the week probably, even though I packed some of it to-go when my parents left for home. What is not pictured here is the main course side of the table, which was sautéed moose, mashed potatoes and baked colourful carrots. Of course there was also wine, home beer, coffee and tea.
It snowed pretty much for 24 hours prior to the party, which made for a gorgeous scenery, but the man was not happy as he had to plough the snow twice during that time.
I had made some ice lanterns, and my dad brought two big metal buckets of secret sauce that blazed in the yard all evening. I think we had the best lights in the whole village.
Congratulations on a wonderful host on a very special day.
Thank you very much, I think it went well :)
A legit looking dinner party Eve!
Thank you! I think it was actually the first dinner party I hosted myself. One per year will suffice.
Lol, yeah it's a bit of work huh? It all looked splendid though, only one G-dog missing.
That's a fancy party indeed! High class through and through. I loved the snowy scenery as well, it was like out of some fairytale novel. And yes, cakes are complex, you should be proud. 😁
Happy Independence Day! (I assume that's what this holiday was?) 👏👏
Cakes take so much to do well. I always used to make the cake from start to finish in a day and that just does not work.
Yes, Finland thanks you! (Russia and Sweden are still pissed for loosing us…)
That tends to be the case. 😅 As a fellow detached nation I completely share your sentiment.
Your country’s history is way messier than ours though and I didn’t even know it’s officially Republic of North Macedonia now. I must admit I really don’t know much about your region and its history.
It does. I was specificallt referring to us leaving Yugoslavia. But that’s more being coy than anything else. 😀
Looks so fancy. Totally salivating at the sight of that cake.
A grown man drooling is not nearly as cute as a baby or a pug drooling…
