ALWAYS HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

First off, I think that one man's food is another man's poison. Some people do not like people to say thank you to them but I like it when people tell me "thank you," not for being proud but just letting me feel that you appreciate what I do for you, not that you will feel entitled to it and for saying "thank you" today can lead to better luck tomorrow. Life is a lesson that we learn from every day.

Saying thank you has had a significant impact on my family. There is a man who built a house on our street, but he doesn't live there; instead, he rents the house out. Nevertheless, he has his own apartment and occasionally visits the house when he has events nearby. This man is a politician, so it is obvious how wealthy he is.

One fateful day, my brother went to the mall to buy some items for the family. While they were paying for their purchases, my brother approached the cashier and he met this man he greeted him, and the man instructed the cashier to add my brother's bill to his own. My brother was happy and expressed his gratitude to him by saying, "Thank you, Sir."

When my brother got home, he told my mother everything that had happened in the mall. You know how African women can be, so my mother waited for the man to pass while she was sitting outside. When she noticed him approaching, she stood and waved at his car, which caused him to stop. My mother was grateful for this man, and he responded, "It's nothing."

When the man saw my brother the following day on his way back to his base, he stopped his car and greeted him, my brother said "Thank you" for yesterday sir. The man asked my brother to get inside his car. They had a heart-to-heart conversation, and when the man asked what my brother was doing at the moment, he replied, "I have no job at the moment."

The man expressed his admiration for my brother's manners, saying that my brother didn't feel entitled to him when he saw him at the mall, unlike some people who will approach him and plead for money, never turning to say thank you, and then demand more money from him if they see him again.

The man told my brother that he appeared kind and that he had been observing him on the street. And that our family is a nice family and a grateful one, he said he would help my brother and would take him as his son, he collected my brother's CV via email and that was how my brother was able to get a federal job. This man supported my brother all through, and he introduced him to members of the powerful classes in politics, and his life was never the same. Just by saying "thank you,".

My brother's example taught me a valuable lesson that small gestures can have a big influence and change the story of your life. Expressing gratitude is a positive habit we need to emulate.

This is my response to this week's engagement of the #hiveghana community
