Honesty: A Virtue We Should All Possess

The moment the word honesty is mentioned, one person has always come across my mind. We now live in a world where people begin to wonder whether there is a single truthful man on the face of the earth, it is high time for us to return to ourselves and try to develop this value.

There is a story of a man who decided to lie to his son about his job, giving him ideas of a successful man. At some point the truth was revealed and it really hurt the boy and just because of that the relationship was broken. This goes to show the effects of lying within our homes and society negatively.

Lack of honesty is a problem in our world today that really ought to be address. It is a practical virtue that, when exercised, yields proper development and increased progress. A good recent example of this is when a man stumbled upon a bag of cash and decided to return it back. The appreciation he offered was more precious than the monetary reward displaying that integrity should be a priority in our communications.

People forget that while we demand honest behaviour from other people, the same should be applied to our behaviour too. A person once told me his employees need to be honest and trustworthy but he himself cannot lead a honest life. Such is the attitude this man had prior to this realization that he decided to change and become a better person telling the truth.

People who care about their image know that this aspect is important, this aspect is important. And if we lie in both speech and deeds we make ourselves worse and the world we live in one degree worse also. As is true with honesty integrity and trust form the foundation of a content society resulting to better and prosperous nation.
