Saturday among friends

Every day that passes is an experience lived and one day less in my calendar. For that reason, I try to take advantage of every invitation I get.

Those of you who are over 60 like me and are retired will know that spending time with people who love you and do you good is something we value very much because, at this age, many of our loved ones have formed their own families and are far away and others have left this world.

What's all the talk about?

It so happens that on Tuesday of this week I got an invitation on the phone for this Saturday, at the home of a young lady who had been a student of mine in high school. When I asked her what I should bring, she told me nothing because I was the guest of honor.

But, what I didn't know was the surprise they had prepared for me.
After lunch at home I left for my former student's house and what a surprise I got when I arrived at her house because there were several familiar faces, but, what I did not understand at that moment was that they were students from my same pre-university group that this student of mine had been in charge of reuniting.

As always when old acquaintances get together, we immediately started asking about our families, our lives, what we were doing.

Some of those present were surprised when I told them that I had been retired for a little over a year and that I was at home enjoying my freedom as a retiree.

There I could see a doctor friend, a refrigeration technician and climate equipment, two engineers, three teachers.

Between conversations and the occasional snack music was heard and we threw our corridors.

As Cuba is an eternal summer temperature in this month remains very high, so there was beer to cool the atmosphere. Despite the heat, I only had one beer because I can't drink it due to my blood pressure and decided to try wine which, in the end, was my companion in the activity.

The hostess prepared a very tasty ajiaco, with viands and meats that made everyone's delight.

There was a small pool in the house for those who wanted to cool off. The older ones did not do so for fear of our wrinkles or because we felt more comfortable talking among ourselves.

At the end, the climate technician asked who needed his services and three of us raised our hands. In my case, I will be grateful if you can fix my air conditioner because the cost of the fix is about five times the value of my retirement.

Before we left there was an invitation to a new activity and a new venue. Of course I will be there.

Important.
