Why Avoid Buying Refurbished or Second-Hand Products

I remember the time when I was just few years into the new job. I used to see my college friends buying the tech of apple. And they were like buying new flashy thing. I had no idea on how come they afford it. Because not even my seniors and the managers are buying something like that.

So I learned that those who are buying apple products despite not being rich, they are buying the old products. Like 16th apple is out and they are buying the 12th version of the apple product. It happens like you would be able to use them for few years.

Let's talk about them, why buying them is not a good idea.

When you buy the refurbished products you are buying the products which are already on their way out. And the 2nd hand nature of the product means those parts are likely to not get the replacement. So it'd be easier to avoid them and not get yourself into the cycle of maintenance.

If the product has crossed the 4 years of the lifecycle it's already on it's way out. Now outside the warranty you are going to have issues buying parts. You would also have issues with the repair and the maintenance of those parts too. Which means you have to rely on the 2nd hand and bad replacement parts. Which starts the cycle of the service hell.

Now amazon and others also buy such type of the products, they improve them with the body, and other parts which can extend such lifespan for 2 years. And then it can be sold to the new people who wish to buy something cheaper. In my case I learned that such type of the products don't have resell value.

Security risks are also there. Some of the 2nd hand products if have certain viruses and the rootkits which would cause more issues. And buying such type of the products means you are buying the issues directly. In all of this you would understand how the life can get worst with service center trips and overall cost of ownership of such products.

In short when you are buying used products you are buying into the cycle of servicing, repairs and things would just get out of hands as far as the spending of money goes. This is one of the reason you should avoid spending the funds on the refurbished and the used products.
