We Have Brought Heaven Closer To You

(Edited)

Friday was an exhibition day for me as I visited two in total. It's not every day that I do that, but it felt good to walk from one dimension to another. It's a strange feeling, but good. Both were out of the box type of art but in a different way. I posted some of the artworks from the first exhibition here, you can check it out.

We Have Brought Heaven Closer To You.jpg

The first exhibition, the one I mentioned above was all paintings. The second was a mix of artworks, made of paintings, sculptures and creations like the one below.

Seven (mixed technique)

Seven can mean a number, but can also mean other things that I'm not aware of. I ran a search and this is what I found.

The number 7 is the foundation of God's word. It derives much of its meaning from being tied directly to creation and symbolizes completeness and perfection (both physical and spiritual). It is found in its singular form 463 times in the King James translation, with the most occurrences recorded (54 times each) both in Scripture's first book (Genesis) and its last (Revelation). If we include other variations of the word for 7, such as "sevens" (2 times), "seventh" (120 times) and "sevenfold" (6), it brings our total up to 591. source

We have a lino cut, a small bouquet of lavender, a wreath made of ceramics, a cup on paper (most likely drawing), a nice stone, a nail and the last one is also a mystery, like a lollypop (I bet it's not a lollypop), could be painted.

I'm not sure if this explanation I quoted has anything to do with the artwork, or not. I'll let you tell me what you see and what you think of it. Let's play the game :)

Poseidon's Aid

This was the first painting I saw and the style of the artist surprised me, in a good way. It was unique, funny as well.

The Magic Offering

I think I lost all my talent of reading artworks, or I'm just too tired to understand what I see. However, I like this painting for exactly what it is. For some reason it reminds me of Pinocchio, although I'm sure it has nothing to do with it.

Dragon's Joy

I'm not a dragon fan, or better said I'm not at the age of being a dragon fan, but I'm glad they have feelings and can feel joy :)

The Sailor And The Three Graces

To be honest, I was just as clueless as you are now (I suppose), but I have the advantage of having the photos of the artworks and while writing these art posts, i can do my own research (you know DYOR as in trading or finance in general) and learn. Turns out the Graces are not invented figures by the artist.

Hesiod in the Theogony (though the authorship is doubtful, this poem is good evidence) says that the three Graces are daughters of Zeus and Eurynome, giving them the names of Aglaia, Euphrosyne and lovely Thalia. The poem of Onomacritus agrees with this account. Antimachus, while giving neither the number of the Graces nor their names, says that they are daughters of Aegle and the Sun. The elegiac poet Hermesianax disagrees with his predecessors in that he makes Persuasion also one of the Graces. source

You can read the whole history about the Graces by clicking this link. You'll see there are several statues and painting with the same name, by Botticelli, Canova and Pradier (it's possible I've seen this at the Louvre years ago) and most likely what you see in this painting is the most unique interpretation of the Graces.

The Giver

A simple, yet brilliant sculpture with deep meaning. If you have a closer look, you can see the circles in the wood, where the head and the woman's breasts are. Those were given from the start and I'd say it's a very nice alignment and most likely hard to find. This makes me believe the wood print gave the artist the idea. Attaching that lavender holder to the wood to look like a backpack is brilliant.

Dream

Interesting representation by placing the bed above the ground.

Genius, The Goldfish

At first glance I thought it's Geenie in the bottle, but it wasn't. Goldfish Genius is a story for kids aged between 3 and 8, written by Sam Wilson. Here's a snippet about the story for you.

Neo gets a goldfish as a birthday gift from her father. Neo loves the goldfish and is impressed by its intelligence. The goldfish also loves Neo and is very happy to be with her. When Neo and her father go outside to play ball, the goldfish feels left out. Rather than sulk, the goldfish makes an invention so that it will be more mobile and can join the game. Unfortunately, the invention isn’t that well thought through and ends up being very dangerous. Will Neo come to the rescue or will the goldfish be doomed to become octopus food? source

You can see the whole story in pictures here

There's a difference between the original story as the main character is a girl in the story, while here we can see a bearded man, but that's never a problem for me as there has to be something original in the reinterpretation.

The Mirage As Real As Can Be

A sailor, or a boat captain and a mermaid. Seeing this painting made me think maybe the artist had a passion for the sea as so far there were a few paintings related to this topic, but that's just me thinking this, without having any proof. There were more sea or water related paintings tough. I liked this one for its simplicity and for the old school, wooden steering wheel.

The Black Sea

It's not the first time I see a composition made of 3 artworks, with the same topic. This is a lovely one, despite the tiny size of the canvas. Each one is 16cm x 9cm, which is a bit bigger than a postcard size. What I love about these is the artist's choice to paint the water black and the sky green.

After I left, on my way home I was thinking this was a very unusual exhibition, I don't think I've seen anything similar so far, but enjoyable at the same time. I'm more open to out of the box type of art lately and this was definitely one. We Have Brought Heaven Closer To You this was the title of the exhibition, by Levente Csatlós.

Let me know how you see these artworks.

I love the giver sculpture, and it makes sense seeing a woman's image on it. Her head was the first thing I noticed when i clicked in to look at it well.

I never knew the number 7 was a number of perfection. Thanks for that.

I also love the story of the goldfish, and i'll click in to read more later. It is inviting, hehe.

The giver is definitely a nice one.

I never knew the number 7 was a number of perfection.

I never knew that either, but we keep learning and you can do that on Hive each day, just by reading posts.

That story worth reading.

You are right. The story is worth reading.

Yes, we keep learning each day, which is why Hive is a place to be.

I have a feeling that Levente is on a completely different level as compared to Emoke. These paintings are not only much more illegible but also contain much, much deeper meanings than what meets the eye. Levente seems to base the works on a lot of metaphors and deep learning, intimate to his own understanding and representation of it. Emoke on the other hand, still out of the box, still wants the audience to understand their statements. But it feels like Levente could care less if the audience understands or if it evokes nothing.

I think you nailed it. You have no idea how much work goes into trying to understand what you see and realize there's a deeper meaning, not just a sailor or a man or whatever you see. Then do the research, read what you find and reinterpret the whole painting based on what you see, look at how the artist understood the concept, what they have changed and so on. Or you can just stand in front of the artwork and see nothing, understand nothing and think this is childish work. Looking back, I could have missed a lot, if I'm tired and not focused and who knows what I have still missed.

I really appreciate your comments and very happy to receive them as understanding art at this level is not easy. Stay tuned as there's still a lot of awesome work to post. Emőke has a mind blowing one. I think it's coming tomorrow.

I like the Giver and Black Sea best. What a thorough post with the research. I often find myself with a google search open as I read posts for researching but not necessary for this post 🙂

Thank you my friend. Indeed, a lot of research goes into these posts, but I don't mind as that's how I learn. And thanks for confirming, my work is helpful :) Stay tuned as there's more to come :)

Your photos of art and your tours on exhibitions of such a diverse and contemporary nature, are something delicious to enjoy here in #Hive for me and for many people here @erikah friend, thank you again for this type of work to which one becomes gladly addicted... ;)

It seemed to me that in many of these artistic works there is something "Picassian"... And that one titled "The Sailor And The Three Graces" (which was my favorite) It made me smile because it brought to mind precisely Picasso in some photographs in which he is seen dressed in a sailor flannel like the one the sailor wears in that painting...

I enjoyed reading this article (and learned a few things, thanks to your very timely and interestings addendums) Thank you very much for sharing!

Sending hugs and big appaluse!

I agree with you! It’s a very unusual exhibition, but at the same time it has its harmony. I like the colors and tones used in the paintings, and also the touch of completely informal draw with fancy touches of the brush.

All the paintings really have a soul. I love how children draw and paint. It's really not easy. I suspect it was not a child who painted, perhaps an adult who devoted his painting to Naivism!
