Walk Back In Time

Getting some fresh air every single day is crucial. Getting my stepcount to reach the daily target is a dream at this point, but I'm working on it to become reality. It's easy to sink into daily problems and choose the easy way, always finding an excuse why you don't have time to work out or walk, but how about finding the time to do it and enjoy the benefits? I'd say the second is a better option. It takes a bit of planning and organizing your day, maybe making sacrifices as well, cutting down on TV time (not that I have much time for the flat screen), but it's for a good cause, the best I'd say as investing in your health and well being is the best investment you can make long term.

We had a long autumn this year. Long, nice and warm as well, I'd say. It's the end of November and the weather is still lovely. So there's no excuse for not getting out for a nice walk every day. My favorite place is the medieval fortress, as each walk is a walk back in time, to medieval times, far from the noise of the city.

20231030_095407a.jpg

Those who built the fortress centuries ago, did not think about leisure and entertainment, they most likely had no idea what the first term is. I'm not saying was as most likely the term was invented much later than medieval times. These walls were build for defense purposes and it's better not to forget that. You can appreciate your freedom more, knowing there was a time when people were living inside the wall, facing danger every day.

20231030_095517a.jpg

Today there's a stage in front of the wall, a lighting system, to illuminate the stage and you can do yoga, tai chi or whatever you like, when the weather is good. Summer weekends are reserved for concerts and parties. I'm wondering what the fighters of 1500 - 1600 would say if invited to these parties?

Good thing there are no restrictions, the structure is safe to use and if you're not afraid of height, you can climb up to the brattice and have a look around, admire the place, or take photos. That's one of my favorite places as there are so many good angles to explore, try out different filters and so on. As a brick addict, that's heaven for me.

In medieval fortification, a bretèche or brattice is a small balcony with machicolations, usually built over a gate and sometimes in the corners of the fortress' wall, with the purpose of enabling defenders to shoot or throw objects at the attackers huddled under the wall. Depending on whether they have a roof, bretèches are classified in two types: open and closed. The open ones were accessed from the battlement's wall walk, or from a crenel. source

If you like different shapes and forms, geometrical shadows, this is a place for you. You can get lost in time and flooded with opportunities you had no idea that exist. I remember the first time I had the chance to take photos of this arched wooden cover, was like a kid in the candy store. If you have a bit of imagination, you can take hundreds of shots, just walking around and exploring different angles. I wonder what a probability calculation would say about the possible angles.

The fortified church, that stands tall for centuries, offering shelter, or spiritual refuge to so many.

And here's an absolute beauty in my eyes, a spot that always fascinates me, no matter how many times I see it. The door and window addict in me will always be admiring this medieval beauty. Restoration works have been carried out several times over the centuries, but as you can see, the original architectural style has been preserved.

You can sit down and admire the view from here, even do some work if your laptop's battery is healthy enough. Is it comfortable? Not at the slightest, but comfort was non existent in medieval times, so why should you sit comfortable, right? Say thank you for having a place to sit.

This is the most interesting place. Imagine, if you would be a doctor in medieval times, this would be your pharmacy. You would collect these herbs, make tea, tinctures, ointments, syrups and give them to sick people. I know some doctors prefer their modern office and deploy the responsibility to pharmacists, but that's not how it worked back then. It was hardcore DIY 😁

Even if the weather is not favorable, the place is still nice and perfect for a walk. They say there's no bad weather, just badly dressed people and I fully agree with that saying.

Most likely winter will make those cobblestones a bit slippery, but some smart people have already invented the boots 😎

Last, but not least, I'd like to say thank you to @tattoodjay for the nice prize 🙂.

Walking and breathing fresh air is the best, even more so when you have spaces as beautiful as this one, full of a lot of history.

We agree on that. It's the best thing to do.

It sure is a place for me - not just because of the geometric shapes, but also all the history filled in there.
Ps. So glad for technology coz I'd hate for anything DIY to do 😆

So you're not going to be the next Fleming or Curie it seems 🤔

You'd like the place for sure.

What a lovely place for a #wednesdaywalk 👍 I love the arches along the walls and especially the one over the door to the church.

I can't imagine a better place in a city. Maybe a big park, but parks are usually packed and not quiet.

You're right as back in the medieval times, a whole city was living inside the walls, there was a city hall as well, plus the church.

The whole view is nice and I love every slide.
The image 3 drew my attention more as the clouds were extremely beautiful. Definitely some fresh air is best for proper thinking and it has few trees around which made it more beautiful.

I didn't even notice the clouds, scrolled up and had a look, when I read your comment. I was lucky as it was a nice, sunny day and the blue sky adds a lot to the photos.

There are several things I like about this publication beyond the quality of the photos you show us:

  • The way you describe things is very didactic and invites us to follow you to the end because of the language you use and the way you tell us about things.
  • I loved the phrase about investing in health in the long term. This is vital because in the end our body behaves the way we treat it.
  • It is true that many times we hide behind our daily tasks to avoid doing physical exercises without knowing that dedicating time for ourselves is a priority.
  • You explain about the walls, what it was built for and what it is today is a kind of history and culture.
  • In addition, I perceive the importance you give to physical preparation.

Thank you very much for sharing. Happy journey. Cheers and greetings.

That's the Big Church right? I've read a study about Türk, the guy that gave it the current appearance ;)

I can't agree less on this. Like they always say "health is wealth" if we are not healthy enough, we won't be able to achieve our daily activities.

Health is something we have less and less after awhile, so it's better to pay attention to it, till we have it.

A lot has changed for sure. I almost spit out what I was drinking when I read about sitting with a healthy laptop. I didn't see the uncomfortable part coming, hehe. Pharmacy is the herb garden well I bet you got your meds right after visit 😊 I wish I had a real medieval place to walk here. Very cool walk 😎

Most of the furniture in medieval churches are very uncomfortable, so give thanks to God that the service is short :)

You're right about that. Doctors had their pharmacy at hand, the little they had back then as you know medicine was in its infancy, so you got something right away. Was it efficient? It depends. Compared to what we have today, hell no :)

We have countless medieval places in Transylvania. So I consider myself lucky.

I walked with you through it all and I marvel at the beauty and fragrance of Nature, yes Nature does have its own fragrance. I marvel so much that I wish to be transported through space, to walk upon the Land. It would be a pleasure.

Walking is very important for the health of every human being and the way we see that if there are such beautiful places, then a person does not know walking, the time passes well and the health of the person is also good.

Loved the architecture from that place! It looks like it was a pleasant and reliable walk. Loved (also) the colour from the afternoon!

Something I absolutely love about autumn is stepping on dry leaves and hearing them crunch, although you have to be careful not to find any strange surprises under the leaves.

😁🤣 I can imagine you stepping on a big pile of surprise. Uggh!!!

Ok, jokes aside, walking is always good, I love it.
