Song Inspired Paintings

(Edited)

About a week ago I visited an exhibition that was put together using the works of artists who have participated in an art camp.

Song Inspired Paintings.jpg

As usual, I knew nothing about what I'm going to see but even so, I never leave the exhibition disappointed.

There were nine artists exhibiting and the artworks on display were colorful and various in style. Come with me to show you what I saw, if you're an art lover.

László Turcza - Help Me Fall Asleep (LGT)

I think I needed a minute to understand what I was seeing. What about you? Was it obvious from the beginning?

20230915_110143a.jpg

László Turcza - The Clouds Go to Sleep (RAMMSTEIN)

Slightly different theme, same concept in illustration in my opinion. But when I saw RAMMSTEIN, something started to be clear in my mind. I'm not sure how much experience you have in music, but RAMMSTEIN is a well known German Neue Deutsche Härte band. I was thinking if I'm right and that RAMMSTEIN refers to the music band, then there should be a song with a similar title and this painting is connected to the song. Coming home I had to check it and I was right, there's a song, called Engel, that has this line in the lyrics.

Only once the clouds have gone to sleep
Can you see us in the sky
We are afraid and alone
Because God knows I don't want to be an angel source

Based on my discovery, I went back to the fist painting as it has (LGT) in the title. At first LGT said nothing to me, but after the RAMMSTEIN discovery, I was suspecting it refers to the Hungarian band LGY and I was right, there's a Hungarian song by them , called Segíts elaludni, which means help me fall asleep. The RAMMSTEIN song is in German and I don't speak German, the other is Hungarian, so I listened to it but can't see more than what I saw before listening to it.

In any case, it's an interesting thing. I've seen artworks inspired by famous novels but never by music, till now. Another detail you can notice is the colors. Both paintings contains the same colors.

László Turcza - The Other Side of the Moon (PINK FLOYD)

In this case, Pink Floyd has a song, called Dark side of the moon. I loved this painting, how the artist illustrated the lady. Look at her face, her hands and her hat. It reminded me of old caricatures, drawings in newspapers and magazines. Her hat is interesting too, not to mention the outfit. I wouldn't hang this on my wall, but I liked it.

László Turcza - The Other Side of the Map (OMEGA)

OMEGA is a Hungarian band from Hungary and they have a song called A Föld árnyékos oldalán, which translates to On the shadow side of the Earth. The painting is quite accurate as there are the roots below surface level, but obviously they look a bit different in reality.

Although none of the music is my stile, it was nice to see the artist inspired by these songs or bands.

20230915_110321a.jpg

Miklós Csaba Gergely - Awakening

20230915_110344a.jpg

Miklós Csaba Gergely - Mother Earth

Interesting interpretation of Mother Earth.

20230915_110409a.jpg

Miklós Csaba Gergely - Perception

I'm a bit speechless here, I don't know what to say, so I'll let you think of what you see.

20230915_110433a.jpg

Miklós Csaba Gergely - Flying Low

20230915_110453a.jpg

Géza Xantus - River

The title is a bit confusing as it may be river or the verb flowing. In Hungarian it's the same word, but translated it may mean a different thing. However, I like how the female silhouettes are stack on each other or overlapping. I think flowing may be better as title.

20230915_110520(0)a.jpg

Géza Xantus - Signal

Seems to be a woman in fetal position, but I can't figure out how many silhouettes there are on the painting.

20230915_110636a.jpg

Géza Xantus - Muster

Again, how many silhouettes you see here?

20230915_110546a.jpg

Zoltán Gergely - Inner Face

20230915_110600a.jpg

20230915_110611a.jpg

This was an interesting one. Looks like a head and the neck has an eye. The inner face has some elements that most likely tell a story.

Each exhibition is interesting on it's own way and this was too. I like it when I have to figure out what the artist meant and there was plenty to figure out here. Now let's see if you find it interesting too. let me know in a comment if you like any of the artworks.

An interesting coincidence. I listen to Omega all the time, for a couple of weeks now. It was one of my favorite bands in my youth, the 70s. I saw that a painting was inspired by an Omega song. I liked the exhibition, I liked the paintings, I can say they are better than I expected, being probably younger artists, less known to me anyway. Not that I know them all, I know well that I am already out of touch with reality, I mean I am not aware of what is happening now.

I've seen that you've been posting about art, exhibitions, fairs, and especially painting for a long time. Good choice... I have to admit that I tried a lot not to copy other people's ideas, but this time I started posting about exhibitions as well. I don't know if this topic is well supported by communities like Photography Lovers or Pinmapple and I can't find one that fits better. You probably don't either. If you have any better ideas and can recommend them to me... thanks anyway!

You took me back an age now when a friend of mine had me to listen to "High on the highway". I think we also listened to the native lyrics version of it which had a funny title for non native ones like us. Thanks for undusting the memory 🙂

I had to look it up, I didn't know what "High on the highway" was. I found out. I didn't catch this music. It was and is my son's favorite. I was into rock. I listened to it and liked it, High on the Highway. I think it's in the cult area of rap if this music is rap. I'm glad I brought back memories to you, music always brings back memories and nostalgia for me...

It's good to see someone knows who Omega is. They are legends but unfortunately not my type of music.

I can say they are better than I expected, being probably younger artists, less known to me anyway.

I don't know. Seeing the music he was inspired by, it gives me the feeling he's not so young, but who knows. Actually, I ran a search and turns out the artist was born in 1953, so I was right.

Posting about art and exhibitions, like others, it doesn't mean you copy their idea. No one has the copyright over posting about exhibitions, fairs and other things. You go to one exhibition, I go to a totally different one and we write about our own experiences. If we would go to the same exhibition and take photos of the same artworks, from the same angle and writing the same text, that would be copying. Otherwise it's not.

I don't know if this topic is well supported by communities like Photography Lovers or Pinmapple and I can't find one that fits better.

Define what you mean by well supported? There's a difference between support and meeting the requirements. Art photos are welcome in the Photography Lovers community as long as they fit the requirements, like be the author of the photo, try to post quality photos, not blurry ones and so on (what it is described in the rule section). I'm not looking for support here, that's not the reason I post in this community. Support is a complex matter and community has less to do with it, unless you post in the wrong one and get downvoted. If you're referring to featuring art posts in the HotShot compilation post, don't expect to see mine in there as I'm not going to nominate my posts. If Castleberry does it, I can't stop him, but I'm never going to nominate my work. Yours is a different matter. Feel free to post about art and exhibitions in Photography Lovers.

Pinmapple is good if it's a permanent exhibition, but if you post about the same place every two weeks or every month, it'll be frowned upon I suppose.

I hope this helps. If not, feel free to ask any question you have and have a nice week.

Thank you, @erikah!

I try to be brief because I know that you are involved in many activities and I think that time is very valuable for you.

  • I would be curious to know what is your favorite music... probably classical music, if you allow me to make a guess.
  • I got the word wrong, I didn't want to refer to support or advantage. I was just wondering if a photo of a painting fits better in a photography community, so the photo is more important, or the painting is more important, so it would fit in an art community. I understood your explanation and thank you for that.
I am glad that I will be able to post images from exhibitions and museums in Photography Lovers.

Well, regarding my taste in music, it depends on what I do. If I'm working, I prefer slow, relaxing jazz as it helps me focus. But my main genre is EDM. If I'm walking or need some energy, then EDM is my fuel.

Regarding posting in Photography Lovers, you're right, the quality of the photograph is the main focus. You can take quality photos at an exhibition as well, s you're welcome to post there.

I got old. I lost my insight. I was also wrong with the age of the painter inspired by music (he is only a year older than me), I was also wrong with your favorite music. Thank you so much, @erikah, for revealing your preferences to me. With every conversation or post I learn something new. I don't know what EDM is. I will look for it and I have a feeling that I will like it.

Hey, don't beat yourself up over this. It's not a big deal, we're wrong on so many things several times every day :) EDM is short for Electronic Dance Music. And you're right, we learn something new every day and Hive is contributing to that quite a lot.

Thank you. It was an extremely enjoyable and useful discussion, reminds me of the old days before Hive. EDM, I understand now. I've been listening lately too, inspired by what my son listens to. I choose such music, or jazz, as you say you like it too, because I listen to music while writing for Hive, and when sorting and editing photos. I prefer instrumental music because when there are lyrics, they don't let me concentrate on writing.

Your exploration of the art exhibition, where artists drew inspiration from music, offers a unique perspective. It's fascinating to see how these artists translated songs into visual art, adding layers of interpretation. The connection between music and art creates a captivating blend of senses. Each piece holds its distinct charm, leaving viewers with a lot to ponder and appreciate. Art exhibitions like this one truly showcase the boundless creativity of human expression.

I did not know the songs and did not want to check them out in the exhibition room, but indeed, it's a unique way to connect the two way of expressing your feelings.

And I still owe you some photos 🙈
