Rust Art

It's not a secret, that I love rust a lot. I see rust differently, not as others and if it's a nice piece, I can consider it art. It's a weird thing, I know, but I'm not alone with it. There are many others like me, and there are many others who don't pay attention to it, which is also fine.

There are two categories I like the most and those are rusty paint, especially when the paint is already detached from the object, and the other is rusty chains and tools.

Big cities are no place for rust, you don't see rusty gates or abandoned rusty cars just laying around. To find such things, you need to go outside the city and look for small villages I suppose, but it depends on the country as well.

My grandfather had a lot of stuff, tools and stuff you need around the house. I suppose most of the village people have these things as first you try to fix the old one, buying a new one is secondary. Plus he had a lot of tools and things my dad does not use anymore. Most of them are rusty already as time has an effect on everything and nothing lasts forever.

These chains are hung there forever, as long as I can remember. Most likely the old man used to use these for something, but now the only purpose they serve is to make me look at them and take photos. I value them a lot, I can't even tell you how much. Not because they belonged to my grandfather, but because they are beautiful in my eyes.

These were tools once used in the garden. Then most likely one day were not good enough and were put where they are now.

Horseshoe! I don't believe in such things as having a horseshoe brings luck, but it's a nice piece. My grandfather had horses, so most likely this one was used once.

Chains usually symbolize lack of freedom, but can have other use as well.

I have no idea what these chains were used for back in the day, but they have more value to me now, that they are rusty.

I need to mention that this is not macro photography, these chains are huge and heavy. The one you see on the right, that's the one I call normal size, or usual, but what is normal or usual to me, may not be so for others.

Here's a necklace for you. It's a bit heavy, but looks great.

The end of a pipe. I should have taken some macro photos of this piece. has some lovely rust. I love that color a lot.

This is a funny one. I posted a photo of this window in 2018 I believe and named it the New Windows 11. It was a joke of course as Windows 11 was released in 2021.

This window frame hangs on the side of a barn, for ages. I suppose it was never used for anything. It doesn't bother anyone and kind of looks good as well.

And here's the key to success 😂. I don't know what door this key opens, if any, but it looks nice where it is.

This faucet looked so nice in real life, but the photo is not so nice.

So this was the rust art parade of the day. I hope to be back with another set of photos soon, paint rust preferably, but we shall see.

This reminds me of my childhood. I grew up around old farms where families had owned them for generations sometimes. You could find old chains and horseshoes, alone with old rusted horse drawn implements. Most times these things would be sitting along old fence lines abandoned in fields, or inside old dilapidated barns. We would spend hours sometimes playing in those old barns and on those old rusty farm implements.

Thank you for bringing back those memories through your photos.

That must have been paradise for those who like rust. But at that young age, kids are interested in other things :)

I'm glad my post and photos brought back nice memories :)

oh, you would would have been in paradise with your camera for sure. Yes, as kids we were more interested in how we could engage it in play more than anything. We are lucky we never ended up with tetanus.

I didn't know you liked rust so much. I found out about brick awhile back. I like rust because it just has a flavor of patina. Growing up on an old dairy farm property there were tons of it. Just make sure you keep updated on your tetanus shots, hehe.

I love rust and last night, during writing my post, I tried to answer the question: shy I like rust. It's a hard one, but I suppose the color is what attracts me and the patterns it can create. I love this rusty red 😍.
I'm glad you like rust too.
Lol, the tetanus shot 😂. I can't even remember when I had mine, I think I had one but God knows when. But no worries as I'm always extra careful.

There you go, these are proofs that even old and obsolete stuff can be art. Thank you for these amazing photos! Very good photography.

Thank you! Old and obsolete stuff can be art can definitely be art. I would do a lot of photo shoots, much more interesting than this one, if I would have more opportunities.

How nice, rust is a witness to the passage of time. And those images tell their stories, the real and the imagined. Thank you for sharing your visions, for me it has been a journey and in fact a few ideas have been activated in my mind.
