Photographing Sculptures At The Gallery

Are you ready for another art show? If you are, buckle up as today I'm going to show you some amazing artworks. Yes, that's right, I visited another art exhibition, held in the Art Nouveau Gallery at the ground floor of the Culture Palace in Targu Mures. This time there were aculptures displayed from different artists that were made of various materials, like metal, wood, stone, clay, ceramic, glass, enamel and so on.

For me, these are the best exhibitions as you never know what you're going to get. Yeah, like in the movie:

Let's start, but before we do that, please note, I did my best to take some decent photos. Unlike at the other art gallery, there were no artworks under glass as these were sculptures, however, the lights were coming from above most of the time and some shadows are visible. Apologies for that.

This was the first artwork I saw when stepped into the gallery. Had no title, or it was on the other side and I did not see it, therefore I don't know what it means, but it looks great. There's a cross at the top, which might be some religious element, I don't know. Sorry for the background.

I'll chose not to comment on this, let you imagine what you want. 🤐

Melkizedek

Every artwork had the title in both Hungarian and Romanian. This one had one title, but could not decide what language was that as it means nothing to me. Yes, my ignorance, but thank God there's Google, so I looked it up and it turns out it's a biblical name.

Melchizedek - or Melchizedek ('king of righteousness') King of Salem, priest (Ter) of the Most High God (El-Eljon). Translated from here

It is an interesting concept for sure and as execution, I like how the artist has chosen to use the wood. It's a piece cut across, not lengthwise. See? This is where my wood addiction comes in handy as I can read the wood. Choosing the right piece of wood is not an easy task, plus you have to prepare it, let is dry and also treat is with lacquer or varnish, whatever it is called. It's not an easy task.

Windows

Over the years I have developed a habit when going to any art exhibition. First I look at the artwork, then I check the label, to see who the artist is and what the title of the artwork is. When I looked at these, could definitely not figure out anything. I mean obviously you can see two rectangular wooden frames, containing some wooden elements but why are these windows? 🤷‍♀ It's definitely interesting though.

Downpour

This is pretty expressive, no matter how you look at it. When I saw what are those pieces on the marble piece, there was no need for explanation.

Do you know what these are? I do! I hope there's no need for explanation here.

Gift

There were a few artworks without a title, this was one of them. In those cases you just look at the artwork and try to guess what it means or what the artist wanted to express. This is definitely a strange one. At first glance it looks like it has something to do with a church as there's a bell on top, there's a cross below, which could as well be a window. Those round things around the cross could be wood pieces, but who knows. What was even more strange was the names written all over the artwork. There was a date as well. 1 - 14.07.2016, this could be an artist camp/workshop, but that's just a guess.

Nest

It's interesting how we see art. At the gallery, I could not see why this is called nest, because I was looking at the sculpture from above. Then in order to take the photo, I had to lower the camera. Now I'm looking at it from the same angle the camera captured it and can see these the two pieces on the right look like bird beaks and the other may be the broken egg.

The Big Piece Of Meat

This was a surprise too as I can't see why is this called the big piece of meat.

This is the portrait of Miklós Tompa.

Miklós Tompa was born on December 28, 1910 in Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania. He was a director and actor, known for Hullámzó völegény (1979), Ábel Amerikában (1998) and Ábel az országban (1994). He died on July 5, 1996 in Tirgu Mures, Romania. source

Looking at this artwork I was thinking of how it is done. This is called sculpture, but most likely it is not cut out of a big piece of metal, but poured into a previously prepared mold, then adjust it. The mold serves as a negative if you like. It's not an easy job though.

I had no idea who this gentleman was, so I had to look it up and he was the Director of the State Philharmonic of Târgu Mureş.

Europe

I have so many things to say about this one, I don't even know where to begin. It is called Europe and it is a body of a fat woman, with cracked skin and no head and no limbs. You may wonder what this has to do with Europe. The artist could tell you exactly what he meant by this sculpture, I'm just guessing or telling you how I see it. The cracked skin may mean age here as Europe is an old continent. According to Wikipedia, Neanderthal man (named after the Neandertal valley in Germany) appeared in Europe 150,000 years ago. The lower, deformed body could also mean age. The lack of limbs could mean the aggression that has been going on in Europe. Again, these are just theories, me guessing, but the artwork is super cool in my opinion.

It was a really nice experience and I'm glad I could see these artworks at the gallery. For me it is like stepping into a totally different universe. I shut the outside world out and think only about this artworks. It's an amazing feeling honestly.
