Late Autumn Rose Parade

avatar

Today, I went to a new park, actually it was in my way to where I was going. While passing though I saw that the roses are still nice and I thought why not take a few photos as most likely these will be the last one. Roses are capable of resisting the cold to some extent. Last year I saw them frosty and still beautiful. It's not the time for frost yet, but with this weather, you never know.

Roses.jpg

So when I saw the roses, I was happy, not to mention that the colors were exactly what I like. When I got home, the first thing I did after taking care of the usual things was to download the photos to my laptop and see what I did. Then came the shock! I took a lot of terrible photos and the only good thing that saved me was my good old habit, more precisely, that I always took at least 2 photos of each subject/position, if not more. So I was able to select a few.

Something has happened to the roses as all were sprinkled with this white something. So the photo is a bit blurry as the focus is not where it should be.

There were a lot of little buds like these, which will never fully open I suppose as it's too late, but time will tell.

20221012_113125a.jpg

This may have a chance to open as it's not so tiny.

20221012_113136a.jpg

I just hope they won't cut the stems down too early, as they usually do. There was a woman working next to the roses, I hope she'll find something else to do till the time comes.

20221012_113159a.jpg

My relationship with roses is a love-hate one for the simple reason that I can't take a good photo of red roses. Tea roses are a different thing though. I love two toned roses, especially this dark pink with yellow.

20221012_113221a.jpg

Some damage is visible on the outer petal, which could be due to the cold we had earlier.

This is a nice one too. Look at those veins.

Obviously this bud is not as nice as a fully opened rose, but this time for me the details count more. Look at those hairy leaves and the texture of the petals.

Last, but not least, a rose that it's done. I have missed these. Before coming to Hive, we were on a platform called Tsu, where there was someone focusing on these withered flowers and plats. There was a special tag for these, but can't remember what it was. In any case, this is an art but not everyone can see the beauty in these. There's no such thing on Hive, although it should be. Maybe I can shoot more withered flowers, if I can find more. You can make so nice edits with them.

So this is my rose parade for today. Let me know if you have any favorites here.

Different climate I guess. These don't grow everywhere but I suppose are exported everywhere :)

And as you say, you most likely have other beautiful flowers we don't have here :)

I see you live in the Philippines, which has a different climate, so maybe you can grow them inside, although it's not an indoor flower as it needs space.

My pick for the photos is the 2nd to last one. Aside from the close up details of vines in the petals, I think it is also the time to bloom out all its petals at be a mature one.

Yes, but unfortunately there's a chance these wont bloom fully die to the low temperatures that are to come, so it's too late.

You got great photos of these roses. I must admit my relationship with them is also love hate. I like them but I don't like how cliché they've become.

It's interesting you say you don't like photographing red ones. Today I was photographing red hibiscus and my camera didn't like it one bit. I think it has difficulty focusing on that colour for some reason. Weird hey?

Thank you!

Exactly!

Nope, not weird at all and that's the reason why I don't like to photograph red roses, or red flowers in general. I don't know, maybe professional photographers with adequate equipment could do a better job, adjusting the light, brightness or whatever settings need to be adjusted, but I can rarely take good photos of red flowers. ☹️

Well we're in the same boat so at least we'll be figuring it out at the same time 🙂

I feel that the roses show our state of mind, I can argue by looking at your photos, that it is possible that when planted in spring they were sprayed with some anti to protect them ... I say in my ignorance, perhaps because I do not know how to take care of the gardens in that area where you live.

For me they symbolize the roads that are coming for an environment, a fresh, clean and calm air to your home and your spirit Erika.☮️

I don't think it is the case as these roses are perennials and the buds are a few weeks old the most, so it must be something recent. However, only the outer petal is affected, the rest is beautiful.

Maybe Erika is some kind of mealybug, or they are infested with aphids or lice, they are like white-scale insects.

My grandmother had a rose bush and when that happened she would prepare water with a detergent and a special repellent she would mix it and spray them, then she would remove the petals.

What an elegant parade of roses, with a closing that reminds us how ephemeral life is.

I recently published a post in which I shared a photo of roses and other flowers. When I saw the wilted rose at the end, I thought of it. All the roses here have already withered, so I was surprised to see the unblossomed roses there.

You live in a hotter climate, that must be the reason. Summer is hot here, but autumn is mild and even though this year cold came early, it's still not so cold, so roses can still survive.

I was delighted with your photographs, they are very poetic images, with a lot of soul, they transmit delicacy, subtlety and natural beauty. I congratulate you.

Thank you! It's interesting how people see and think of different things when looking at roses. Some are inspired to sing, others to write poetry and so on. Flowers are inspiring for sure.

It will take a while before those buds can spread, but it will be worthwhile waiting if you can see its full beauty. I like the red roses more but its difficult to grow it. Haha!

I hope these can still open due to the cold temperatures. I guess we wait and see.
