Herbarium

Part of the Internal Stairs exhibition was connected to nature. I've said many times that I wish I knew what the artist was thinking about when they created the artwork or what they want to transmit through it. In most of the cases you don't know, unless you go to the opening and the artist talks about these things in details.

Here however they made a smart choice and hung out a message from the artist, explaining where the idea came from and what these artworks mean to her.

This is what I saw when I stepped into the exhibition room. Looked quite interesting from the start.

If you have a closer look, you can see how unusual this painting is. Leaves, shapes, numbers, half leaves, numbers crossed etc.

Another one, just as unusual as the previous one.

Knowing this series is called Herbarium, I can spot nature in this painting. Nature is complicated and not always pleasant to the eye. Not everything is nice and beautiful. Maybe that's exactly what we're seeing here.

Tat Tvam Asi

If you think the previous artworks were strange, or unusual, look at this. It is made of leaves. Dry leaves pieced together.

I suppose glue was used to put this together. It's nice to see it in this condition as once leaves dry, they become quite fragile and transporting such a fragile artwork becomes a difficult task.

tat tvam asi, (Sanskrit: “thou art that”) in Hinduism, the famous expression of the relationship between the individual and the Absolute. The statement is frequently repeated in the sixth chapter of the Chandogya Upanishad (c. 600 bce) as the teacher Uddalaka Aruni instructs his son in the nature of brahman, the supreme reality. The identity expressed in this judgment was variously interpreted by the different darshans (schools) of the orthodox philosophy of Vedanta. The phrase was given its most literal interpretation by the 8th–9th-century thinker Shankara of the Advaita (Nondualist) school, for whom the statement was one of the great assertions fundamental to his doctrine. source

This reminded me of a melon but obviously it's not a melon. What I liked most about this was the color combination. As a woman, most likely would never pair these two colors to dress them in the same time, but they look good on the wall.

More leaves, light brown this time, or hazel if I may. I'm not sure if the color was intentional or it's just nature's work. The leaves did not seem painted with paint, but could have been treated with something. Who knows?

To me, it seems like the bark of the tree, wrapped with white ribbon and green leaves are inserted. If I'm right, this can symbolize rebirth, but this is just an educated guess.

This guessing game can be a lot of fun, not just frustration. I suppose this symbolizes the passing of time and the effect of it on a leaf. The leaf gets lighter in color in time, till it dries completely. At least that's how I see this.

I'll let you decide what this is, but I like the thing on the left. Looks great.

Even though it was maybe the strangest exhibition, there were quite a lot of interesting artworks here. The guessing game was good :)

It's always interesting to be in places full of history and knowledge like at exhibitions or in the library.

So beautiful pieces! It looks like conceptual art, I like them! About what an artist think when he/She work on and artwork, in my experience I can say the most part of time the artist leaves the hands free to work and just after he/She know the meaning. Talking with some artista Who are my friends, sometimes the most important meaning of a piece is the meaning that who are watching give to the piece. ♥️

I really appreciate your comment as you're an artist too. I know sometimes you start with an idea and create a totally different thing :)

Beautiful works of art, the beauty of which is that each viewer can let their imagination run wild in each painting. Greetings @erikah 🤗

An artist thinks and looks at everything differently his vision is not easy to understand for me the pieces are beautiful, each person will give it his own meaning.
