Graphics, A Special Kind Of Art
Last time, while I was visiting this graphics exhibition, was thinking how much progress I have made in appreciating and understanding art. Why at this specific exhibition? Because t was one of the most difficult to read and understand. Yes, these are the cases when you realize you know very little or nothing at all about this genre, but instead of getting disappointed with myself or my progress, I'd rather see how long I've come since I started visiting exhibitions on a regular bases.
The truth is, not every genre is easy. We all have preferences and type of arts we don't like. Graphics for me is like a magnet for several reasons. First of all, I have a huge admiration for graphics artists because it's not easy to create something spectacular on paper using only one color. Secondly, because it's not always easy to read what you see. This gives me a reason to practice more, train my eyes to be better at it.
Tiresias
Without knowing the meaning behind the graphics, just by looking at it, seemed like a mythological theme to me. The size of the male figure made me think he's some kind of God or an important person. I wasn't wrong but the story is more complex than that.
The good thing about these exhibitions is that you learn a lot when you do the research after the exhibition. I'm always doing my research and these are very good occasions to extend your knowledge.
In Greek mythology, Tiresias was a blind prophet of Apollo in Thebes, famous for clairvoyance and for being transformed into a woman for seven years. He was the son of the shepherd Everes and the nymph Chariclo. Tiresias participated fully in seven generations in Thebes, beginning as advisor to Cadmus himself. source
"famous for clairvoyance and for being transformed into a woman"? This is a surprise and I'm glad I came across it as had no idea such thing existed in Greek mythology. I think people were transformed into stones, but gender change? That's new. I wonder if this was the only case or there were more.
Homeward Adversity
This was a very tough one. After a careful inspection, I think I can see a good few silhouettes and most likely there's a group of people, looks like a huge ruction, but it's confusing.
Deluge (or Flood)
New Flame
This is watercolor and ink, but I'm not sure about the latter. This style is closer to my like for sure and I find it very delicate. You need to be careful with your paint, in order to get what you want as you only have one color and using different shades of it right, s crucial. I'd say this is the monochrome in painting, if I can use this word here. István József Bugyi did an excellent job.
Neighbor Creature
One of the particularity of graphics is that you need to stand at a certain distance from the artwork in order to see it properly. If you go too close, all you'll see is a bunch of lines and dots, but you miss the big picture. No matter how confusing this may seem, I like it. It's a fantastic one.
News Bearer
I took a close-up photo of the most interesting part of the graphics for you. It's mind blowing how can someone create such a wonderful artwork by only using ink. I'd love to see the process from the beginning to the end. Now that I'm writing these lines, it occurred to me, maybe I can find some videos on YouTube about how it's done. Would be interesting to see.
Component In The Structure
The title of this one made me think, how deep the meaning of it is. Component in the structure. We are all components in a big structure. We all have our part to play and some people are operating that structure. Ring a bell? I hope you understand what I mean and I don't have to spell it out for you. It's a brilliant one.
Component In The Structure 2.
The Lazy
If I were to choose one from this exhibition, this would definitely be the one. This is also watercolor. Purple is not my favorite color, but the concept and the execution is brilliant. Look at that posture an face. I love this!
I'm curious to see if any of you have a favorite among these. Last time it was clear we don't have many admirers of this kind of art. Let me know in a comment.

FIRST! No, not saying that because this may be the first comment, but this is in fact, the first post I saw this morning. You can bet how my soul awakened upon seeing you posting something new, haha!
About the Homebound Adversary, I did see silhouette later on, but the first thing I saw were some buildings on fire (which the flames later made me realize those were people), taken on an aerial view. IDK, it's quite the piece I actually like to understand further.
And The Lazy is my mood too, hahaha. I could use some inspiration but this guy, slouching in the canvas, is just so me. I really need inspiration — I have deadlines to work with.
I think it's safe to say everyone sees these works differently and maybe we see different things too.
Lol, looks like The Lazy is the winner today, which is not surprising at all, because it's really good. I like it too.

I think I enjoy these more viewing them as an abstract work. Just look and enjoy. Homeward Adversity and The Lazy work for me on that level.
You're not wrong when you mention abstract. The Lazy is an excellent one. Nice pick Steven!
Although it is not necessary to be a scholar to appreciate art it must be said that to understand it better it is necessary to exercise the eye and have previous knowledge in this way the author's message can reach us more directly so there is no doubt that having visited so many samples and written so many post analyzing added to the conclusions we reached your readers will have added to you to draw new conclusions and see other edges that you had not considered, great to share these things to see more points of view.
