Art And Creativity At The Market
The 1st day of March is always a celebration in my country, as we celebrate the International Women's Day. This is the reason why there are flower and souvenir markets organized all over the country. For me this is a special occasion as I always want to see what's new, what crafters, artisans come up with and a source of inspiration as well as you never know what you can create, once you get the motivation and an idea.
This year the market was maybe as big as in the past years, or maybe bigger, full of flowers, mărțișoare, which is the traditional gift for this occasion, and other gifts you may find suitable for this day. If you've missed my first post about it, you can check it out here.
As I was expecting, there were the traditional mărțișoare, like very year, but there were a lot of new and interesting ones too. Basically the market is saturated every year, the offer is huge, the buying power of the population is decreasing, so you have to come up with something unique and sustainable too, if you want to sell your products.
These were made of paper and dry flowers, which is way better than metal. Flowers always symbolize spring and those dry parts gave the whole brooch a nice aspect.
These little flower packs looked nice, but on a closer look, turned out to be artificial flowers, made of silk. I'm not saying it's not good, some prefer these instead of real flowers, just not me.
Hyacinths and primroses are considered to be the harbingers of spring, along with snowdrops, so these can't be missing from the market, ever. I love them both, but when it comes to choosing, I obviously prefer hyacinths for the scent. I got a white one this year and it fills the room with its lovely scent.
It said these were manually painted, which I appreciate a lot. These were more for the younger ladies.
This is how the offer looks like. Now imagine yourself when you want to buy one. You stand there, looking at each of them, then getting confused and don't know which one to buy. It's never an easy job.
These were also painted manually and costed half of what the previous ones costed. I saw these as humble and liked these too.
The irregular form of the wood the flowers were painted on makes them unique. Most likely you won't find two of a kind.
For those who like silk flowers. Original idea though.
Handmade things always mean crocheted jewellery, among which these brooches too.
Hand painted earrings. The concept is not new, you see similar products at every fair.
The puzzle pieces on the left were so cool.
These were at 5€ each and you could wear them on your bag, or shirt, without the red-white string as well.
A different style for a different category.
These were new to me and quite interesting. Shells with flowers combined.
Looks like silk was dominating. I'm just realizing that now, having a close look at the photos.
Pendants, crocheted, made of wood, leather, you name it.
Earrings to match them.
I was looking at those hand painted wooden earrings and was thinking I could do something similar. This is déjà vu a this is what happens every single year. I see these products, get some ideas and wish I could be there selling my products. It would be tempting, but I don't see myself going through all the trouble to get a license, for one day basically. I don't see myself going from fair to fair, stand in the rain or heat, to sell these products. I would be curious to know if they manage to make ends meet or make a profit.
It was nice to see horse shoe as well as that's the symbol of luck. Well, one of them.
Handmade and cute.
I hope you can find something you like :)

Awww, how cute those stuffs are dear Erikah. What I love the most are the earrings. While I am scrolling the beautiful and colorful photos, I was really looking at the pink ones, hehe. By the way, great photography. Best regards and have a nice time.
Thank you my friend :)
Lol, you were looking for pink, what a surprise 😂
Well, there was plenty of pink, this and that, from flowers to jewellery, so you would have found plenty of pink things to buy.
Have a nice evening.
The accessories have a distinction of uniqueness. If I were in that place now, I would prefer buy lots of them, only if I have a lot of money. 😂
Well, visiting the market is always a challenge and I understand what you're saying. I've learnt to control myself, although have never been the overspending type.
You're right we have to control ourselves. ☺️
Woaah a lot of gift ideas or gifts to chose from. Might be I would appreciate fresh flowers but also love those dried flowers as you can keep them for a long time. Artificial flowers is good too but it will depend on the preference of the receiver.
Indeed, there were plenty, so no one could complain about not finding a gift. Dried flowers are better than artificial ones, in my opinion, I have nothing against them.
Erika , Yes I found that I liked something...EVERYTHING, is beautiful but I would like to have earrings for the little ones those that do not weigh so much for my ears and looks nice with my style
I'm glad to read you were able to find something for yourself. Some of the earrings were cool indeed.
So many cool things. My mom had a boutique a few years back that would sell these types of handmade items.
That boutique must have been a cool place for sure. I love places like that, you can spend an hour in there.
I don't know but maybe it's just the woman's nature to quickly get drawn and charmed by these beautiful little creations! I'm one of those women who love to look at and experience these cute little kinds of stuff. Happy International Women's Day/Month to all women out there and to the author herself! Cheers!
You and me both, I love these too, that's why I am visiting the market every year. Happy International Women's Day to you too :)
These look gorgeous. Wondering what the horse shoes are about and where they are in the picture though.
Thank you! You can read about the tradition here.
Horse shoe and clover, both symbolizes luck.
WOW this view is amazing. You people must be very fond flowers and nature.
where i am from, girls do not rate flowers at all. They prefer money and other material gifts.
The only flowers they appreciate here is the flowers they make with a pile of new notes.
Yes, flowers and nature are highly appreciated.
I think it's best to keep my opinion to myself on that as some may find it offensive.
Those are variety of cute items. Yeah it would be so hard to choose. But I love the puzzle pieces. I would love to buy those for my friends..
The puzzle pieces were my favorite too and I'm going to buy one next year. I regret not buying one already, but I spent my budget on something cool already 😂, something that I have been hunting for 2 years!!!
What a lovely market!! I was thinking about shopping after seeing all of the goodies in this post. I used to collect dry flowers before, I like them. Those handpainted earrings caught my eye as well as the necklaces. We normally wear such kind of pendant with our traditional clothes called "Saree". Unlimited options and I am sure I would have ended up buying so many things from this market :D... Thanks for sharing...
Have a good week Erikah...
It was a lovely market indeed, that's why I wanted to be there at any cost.
I love dry flowers too, I'm taking photos of them and had a few at home, preserved. I know Saree and also know that women from your area like jewellery and make-up a lot. At least that's what I see on the photos and videos. I also had to limit myself as you could by the whole market, there are always so many good things :)
Thanks for stopping by, have a nice day and take care :)
I did find what I like, the puzzle earrings and the shells+flowers. Those caught my eyes but they're all so colourful and beautiful. These aren't things one comes by around here. Women's day is hardly even recognised. Only on SM.
I've never received real flowers before, I don't even know the scents they give off, not even the common ones like roses. Our people are not so big on gardens so I see things like that only in movies and stuff but the mention of the scent of hyacinths filling your room has me longing to know what they smell like. I love me some nice smelling spaces. I guess I'll keep an out for a flower shop whenever I travel.
What did you get for yourself eventually?
The puzzles were brooches, but who knows, maybe they have earrings too. Would be cool to have a pair for sure.
That is really sad. I wish I could send you some flowers. Flowers are common here and also a must when you want a nice present for a woman or you go visit someone you have not seen for a long time. You don't go empty handed.
What did I buy? Lol, buckle up as it's coming. I bought a small doll I saw and liked.
And also bought something that I've been hunting for 2 years. That is coming in one of my next posts. Something cool 😁
Oh brooches, my bad. Earrings would be cool indeed.
Haha, not exactly sad as it's not really our culture and since I don't even know first hand what I'm missing. I wish you could get me one too, haha. Thanks though. It's the thought that counts.
You got a doll 😂 wow! That was definitely unexpected. I like her crocheted dress though.
I'll look out for that post then. Xoxo.
But what beautiful photos and such beautiful handmade details.
Thank you!
These are absolutely adorable. It's a good opportunity to support the people there and also to surprise my lady at home. When I'm buying something and I hear that someone has put a lot of effort into making it, that it's handmade, I'm more willing to pay for it.
It also reminded me of the necklaces we used to make in class as children. We used to make these kinds of things. Necklaces, bracelets, etc.
I agree with you, there were so many good ones. And yes, these are initiatives to help artists and crafters develop and thrive. I am also in favor of handmade and recycled as well.
I'd love to see those necklaces and bracelets you made in school.
Most of these are lost, but I found one. I'll take a picture and share it with you ^^
Yay, I can't wait! Please do as I'd say thank you!
I apologize for the quality of the photo. It's been 12 years since I made this haha.
Oh, you used beads. That is nice. Thank you for the photo, I really appreciate it.
I'm planning to take out my beads and make a necklace for myself. Just need a bit of time.
I am very curious about the necklace you will make. I am sure you will make it much more beautiful than mine.
I hope you will share with us that one.
Manually painted and it came out so well? indeed your country has people with blessed hands, they are creative and thorough
There are talented people all over the world, they just need a bit of help to start and run their businesses. These fairs are organized in a way to help crafters and artists. You're going to see a lot of markets like this as I'm visiting as many as I can. Love them.
As delicate as a flower, that's how we women define ourselves, and seeing many flowers together is like seeing a meeting of girls, always fresh and beautiful. Going to that market is to spend a good part of the day there, I wouldn't know which one to choose among so many beautiful designs. Over there I saw some star-shaped arracadas that I really liked. Thank you for sharing this extraordinary display of handicrafts. Regards.
