Another Monochrome Practice - Random Photos For Fun
As a photo enthusiast, I often take photos of random things, scenes, without any purpose, or maybe just to practice, to see if I can get something nice out of it. These photos are just piling up in my folders, till I take the time to go through them, select a good few and post them.
So today it's one of those days, when I'm posting a bunch of random photos, just for fun.
One of the things I always admire when it comes to photography is reflection in the puddle. Some are talented and capture some lovely scenes. I hardly ever have the occasion to do such thing for two reasons. One is the constant and growing drought, that makes finding puddles impossible. The other is good roads and walkways. Puddles can only form where there's some kind of depression, where water can gather. This week I was lucky to find one. It's not exactly the scene I wanted to capture, but beggars can't be choosers, right?
Then I saw this huge, (almost) empty square, paved with cobblestones. I have a thing for cobblestones, especially if you can find them in a medieval city center. To make it more interesting, I added some effects. I'm not sure if I made it better or worse though :)
Follow the light! This is an obsession of mine, narrowing roads and corridors, from a certain point of view and won't miss taking photos, ever. This structure has around or more than 750 years. Over the years it's been renovated countless times, but time has an effect on everything, and as you can see, this structure is not an exception. It served well for my photo, but from historical point of view, it's sad. let's hope they can get some funds and restore it.
These stones are part of the pavement, of the arched entrance. These are not modern era cobblestones. These are medieval stones, the originals. Now shiny, after all the traffic they had to handle. I love the texture of that big stone in the center.
More stones.
And a stone wall.
The beauty of this is that the bottom part is made of real stones. This is the original, medieval wall. The upper part has bricks too, which may be the work of a later era. These walls have been knocked down several times during different fights and rebuilt after.
The railways from above. The truth is, here I wanted to take a photo through the wire mesh, but it was not symmetrical, so it looked awful.
I think there's a lot of room for improvement. These days are rainy, according to the weather forecast there will be raining every day, so there's a good chance to find a nice, long paddle and practice reflection, if there's a nice building in front of it.

Haha bad for photographers who are looking for reflection shots, but good for the citizen.
Here we can see puddles everywhere just with a light rain.
Oh God! That is not fun at all as you can take some photos in an hour and the fun is over. Then you have to avoid puddles all your life 😂
It's amazing what Erica's friend showed. I like this way of taking pictures. 👍
Thank you!
Congratulations, your post has been upvoted by @dsc-r2cornell, which is the curating account for @R2cornell's Discord Community.
Thank you!
interesting thing to talk about photography, I am happy with some activities like this even with smartphone.. When monsoon comes you will get lots of photos in puddles.. have a nice day..
Well, it's a topic that can be explored. I have lots of ideas, but for those to become photos, I need the puddles to be next to some amazing buildings, which is not exactly an easy job. Looking forward to seeing your photos :)
Thank you very much,
Cool shots. All the different textures look good in black and white.
Many thanks Wes, this is an obsession of mine. Hope to improve in time :)
I like to call this dusting. Going through pictures that are just wasting away in my gallery. In my case, a full storage is mostly what leads to it. Although I occasionally do it out of Nostalgia when my phone decides to make it’s own unnecessary album suggestions.
The black and white effect looks very nice on the cobblestone shot. When I saw it first, I thought it was a drone shot of houses from high up in the sky with the darker color stones being roads.
Well, full storage never happens in my case as my phone has a huge storage space and I have an external storage for my laptop, of 1TB, so no danger here.
I don't do drone photos as it's not ideal in the city, there are cameras everywhere, plus military facilities, so you can get into trouble in a split second. I'm fine on the ground :D
Yeah my phone’s storage is 256GB, and I save almost anything I find even if I don’t need it, so maybe that’s why I have problems with storage space.
I don’t transfer my photos from my phone to my laptop because my photos are very dispersed in my gallery and it’ll take a very long time to organize them and another long process to transfer them from an iPhone to a Windows machine.
Well, if you're ok with gambling with quality, that's fine too.
beautiful place and nice photo my friend I love it
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that :)
Greetings 🤗
Photography is such a wonderful art, they move us to such diverse sensations. Black and white bring out things that in color are not usually appreciated....
I am a fan of photography, I don't consider myself to be good, however I enjoy so much to take each photograph because it happens to me like you, when I see them in the gallery I feel so good and proud. Sometimes people don't give themselves the opportunity to see a photo with all the details.
Beautiful your collection today. Greetings 🤗
nice photo, what kind of camera was used my friend
How good they turned out on you, Erikah, I really liked how you can capture the texture in each shot, I haven't taken photos of this style for a long time, I miss that.
Great shots. I particularly love the first one with the puddle reflection. For a long time, I have been meaning to head out to the center of Prague after rain and capture some of the local architectural beauty through reflection in puddles, just like you did it in that shot. I hope to make it happen one day :)
