¡Hola amigos! Como les dije en una oportunidad, no soy de comentar las series que sacan capítulos semanalmente hasta que finalicen. Es por ello que no estuve comentando sobre The Last of Us. Pero ahora que ya terminó la primera temporada y me puse al día con todos sus capítulos, les vengo a compartir mi opinión.

Hello friends! As I told you once, I'm not one to comment on series that release chapters weekly until they end. That's why I haven't been commenting on The Last of Us. But now that the first season is over and I've caught up with all its chapters, I'm here to share my opinion.

Antes que nada les pongo en contexto para los que no sepan, aunque lo dudo, de qué va esta serie. Está basada en un videojuego del mismo nombre que trata sobre un hongo, el cordycep, que solo atacaba a un grupo específico de insectos y no afectaba a los humanos. Perooo, como pasa en la mayoría de series apocalípticas, el hongo muto, se hizo fuerte y resistente y ahora ataca a los humanos. Esperen que esto no termina acá... no hay cura para este hongo, te ataca y estás muerto. Así que esto es lo que pasa tanto en el videojuego como en la serie: el hongo se propaga rápidamente, un humano se infecta, muerde a otro y se hace una cadena de infectados, y empieza la lucha por sobrevivir.

Acá entra en acción nuestro héroe caído, Joel, y digo caído porque cuando empezó todo esto intentó escapar junto con su hermano Tommy y su hija Sarah, pero mataron a su hija en el camino y la vida de Joel perdió sentido.

Luego pasan muchos años y el mundo tal como lo conocemos está acabado. Un grupo llamado FEDRA, es todo lo que queda del gobierno y ellos son los encargados de mantener el nuevo orden, sin embargo, encuentran su oposición en un grupo de rebeldes que se autodenominan los Luciérnagas.

Joel trabaja en una ciudad bajo el nuevo sistema establecido pero hace algún que otro trabajo sucio para conseguir objetos que de otro modo no podría. Hasta que se encuentra con unos miembros de los Luciérnagas que le piden ayuda para que lleve a una niña a uno de sus campamentos médicos porque resulta que es inmune al cordycep y podría ser la clave para encontrar una cura (en realidad el trabajo era más sencillo, era solo pasarla para el otro lado del muro y que otros se encarguen, pero todo se complico, obviamente).

A medida que transcurra el viaje van a ir enfrentándose a todo tipo de obstáculos, tanto infectados, como personas y deberán afrontar más pérdidas. Pero el lazo que Joel formará con esta niña llamada Ellie, y viceversa, los mantendrá unidos.

First of all, let me put it in context for those of you who don't know, although I doubt it, what this series is about. It is based on a video game of the same name that deals with a fungus, the cordycep, which only attacked a specific group of insects and did not affect humans. Butoo, as happens in most apocalyptic series, the fungus mutated, became strong and resistant and now attacks humans. Wait, it doesn't end here... there is no cure for this fungus, it attacks you and you are dead. So this is what happens in both the video game and the series: the fungus spreads quickly, one human gets infected, bites another and a chain of infected people is made, and the fight for survival begins.

Here our fallen hero, Joel, comes into action, and I say fallen because when all this started he tried to escape with his brother Tommy and his daughter Sarah, but his daughter was killed on the way and Joel's life lost meaning.

Then many years pass and the world as we know it is finished. A group called FEDRA, is all that is left of the government and they are in charge of maintaining the new order, however, they find their opposition in a group of rebels who call themselves the Fireflies.

Joel works in a city under the new established system but does the odd bit of dirty work to get items he wouldn't otherwise be able to. Until he meets some members of the Fireflies who ask him to help them take a girl to one of their medical camps because it turns out that she is immune to cordycep and could be the key to finding a cure (actually the job was simpler, it was just to pass her to the other side of the wall and let others take care of it, but everything got complicated, obviously).

As the journey progresses, they will face all kinds of obstacles, both infected and people, and they will have to face more losses. But the bond that Joel will form with this girl named Ellie, and vice versa, will keep them together.

Esta adaptación de un videojuego bastante popular en los últimos años es todo lo que los fanáticos de ciertas franquicias de entretenimiento desean. Acá tomaron todo a la perfección, los escenarios, la historia, los personajes, los diálogos. Y sí, algunas escenas se salen del guion original, pero no importa porque todo lo demás está perfecto, al menos para mí.

This adaptation of a video game that has been quite popular in recent years is everything that fans of certain entertainment franchises desire. Here they took everything to perfection, the settings, the story, the characters, the dialogues. And yes, some scenes are out of the original script, but it doesn't matter because everything else is perfect, at least for me.

Cuando veo esta producción no dejo de desear una adaptación así de fiel para Resident Evil. Sé que ya hay varias adaptaciones de este famoso videojuego, pero todas se salen de control y las últimas fueron un fracaso. También sé que no debe ser fácil adaptar este tipo de juegos, por el nivel de producción que se debe necesitar, pero siento que ni siquiera lo intentan. Se toman libertades que nadie pidió, ni quiere. Cuando uno pide una adaptación que sea fiel, quiere eso, y el problema esta cuando te lo prometen y no ocurre. Entonces no puedo evitar emocionarme por esta adaptación que es todo lo que quería y más. Sentí que era el juego cobrando vida.

When I see this production I can't help but wish for an adaptation this faithful to Resident Evil. I know there are already several adaptations of this famous video game, but they all get out of control and the last ones were a failure. I also know that it must not be easy to adapt this kind of games, because of the level of production that must be needed, but I feel that they don't even try. They take liberties that no one asked for, nor wants. When you ask for an adaptation to be faithful, you want that, and the problem is when they promise it and it doesn't happen. So I can't help but be excited about this adaptation which is everything I wanted and more. I felt like it was the game come to life.

Pero, más allá de esto, la serie es buena por sí sola. La historia es atrapante, todo lo que sea supervivencia humana, historias de vida, aprendizajes y adaptación a un nuevo mundo hostil me encanta. Sobre todo si está bien construido.

But, beyond this, the series is good on its own. The story is gripping, anything that is human survival, life stories, learning and adapting to a new hostile world I love. Especially if it's well constructed.

A la serie le tengo que reconocer que supo tener momentos propios de ella. Momentos que en el juego no se llegaron a explicar entonces acá si se tomaron la libertad de hacerlo, como contarnos cómo comenzó lo del cordycep, la historia de Bill y Frank (que no sabemos sí fue así, pero me encanto verlo de esta manera, creo que concuerda con la línea de la serie), la historia de los humanos que sobrevivían comiendo carne de otros humanos; fue bueno que lo incluyeran, ya que te dan un pantallazo de que es probable que ocurra en una situación parecida, donde no tenes nada para comer y el mundo esta hecho un caos.

I have to recognize that the series knew how to have its own moments. Moments that were not explained in the game, so here they took the liberty to do it, like telling us how the cordycep started, the story of Bill and Frank (we don't know if it was like that, but I loved seeing it this way, I think it fits with the line of the series), the story of the humans who survived by eating the flesh of other humans; it was good that they included it, since they give you a glimpse of what is likely to happen in a similar situation, where you have nothing to eat and the world is in chaos.

La química entre los actores de Joel y Ellie fue lo más genial, Pedro y Bella lo hicieron increíble. Se metieron perfecto en sus papeles, al menos yo me lo creí. Creí lo que me estaban contando, su historia de superación y pérdidas, su lazo padre e hija se pudo construir tal cual. También me gustó que contarán la historia de Ellie, cómo fue su nacimiento. Taparon esos agujeros argumentales que seguro algunos nos preguntamos, el origen de la inmunidad de Ellie. Y me agrado que no dejarán afuera lo de su orientación sexual porque es parte de la esencia del personaje y eso da un excelente pie para contar el resto de la historia que falte en una próxima temporada.

The chemistry between the actors of Joel and Ellie was the coolest thing, Pedro and Bella did amazing. They got into their roles perfectly, at least I believed it. I believed what they were telling me, their story of overcoming and loss, their father-daughter bond could be built just as it was. I also liked that they told Ellie's story, what her birth was like. They plugged those plot holes that I'm sure some of us wondered about, the origin of Ellie's immunity. And I liked that they didn't leave out her sexual orientation because it is part of the essence of the character and that gives an excellent basis to tell the rest of the story that is missing in the next season.

Quizá algo que sentí que le falto fueron más momentos de acción con infectados y chasqueadores, tuvieron su participación en los primeros capítulos, pero luego el viaje continuo tranquilo sin ellos, no así de otras amenazas. Se centraron más en la parte humana, no es una critica, sino una observación. Como que al final los monstruos terminan siendo los mismo humanos.

Perhaps something that I felt was missing were more action moments with infected and snappers, they had their participation in the first chapters, but then the journey continued without them, but not other threats. They focused more on the human part, this is not a criticism, but an observation. Like in the end the monsters end up being the humans themselves.

De todos modos, estoy más que satisfecha con lo que nos dio esta serie hasta el momento. Escenas calcadas al videojuego, diálogos ingeniosos, mantuvieron la esencia de sus personajes y dejaron preparado el hilo de la historia para lo que se viene, que va a estar bastante heavy.

Anyway, I am more than satisfied with what this series has given us so far. Scenes that are similar to the video game, witty dialogues, they kept the essence of their characters and left the story thread ready for what is coming, which is going to be pretty heavy.

¿Recomiendo que vean esta serie? Sí, totalmente.
¿Hace falta saber sobre el videojuego para entender? No, para nada. La historia se entiende muy bien y se explican los detalles que se desconozcan, así que si nunca jugaron o vieron el juego no es un impedimento para ver esta serie.

Do I recommend watching this series? Yes, absolutely.
Do you need to know about the video game to understand? No, not at all. The story is very well understood and any unknown details are explained, so if you never played or saw the game it is not an impediment to watch this series.
