The Four Elements

"Enough!" shouted Fire Wolf, flames erupting from his furry paws. "We settle this now!"

Across from him stood Water Whale, waves crashing around her large cobalt body. "Agreed," he said calmly. "Let's end this pointless feud."

Between them crackled Electric Rabbit, sparks flying from his twitchy nose. "I'm with Water on this one. We gain nothing from fighting."

Fire Wolf snarled, smoke billowing from his snout. Water and Electricity together could overwhelm his fiery power. He needed back up.

Fire Wolf turned to the figure emerging from the forest and growled "What say you, brother?"

Grass Raccoon stepped forward, vines twisting around his limbs. He eyed Water and Electricity warily. "I stand with Fire," he said finally. "As I always have."

Fire Wolf grinned, flames licking his teeth. This senseless battle had to end.

With a roar, Fire Wolf lunged at Water Whale, seeking to evaporate her liquid form. But Electric Rabbit was quicker, shooting sparks to distract the fiery beast.

"Enough!" shouted Grass Raccoon. Vines erupted from the earth, entangling Electric and pulling him back. The sparks died as Electric became ensnared.

Water used the distraction to blast steam at Fire Wolf. The flames on his fur dampened and he recoiled with a yelp.

"Cowards!" Fire Wolf snarled. "Fight fairly!"

"Dear brother, open your eyes," Water pleaded. "This senseless feud ruins us all. We must end this madness now."

Fire Wolf ignored her words. He charged Grass Raccoon instead, flames meeting vines in a sizzle of smoke. The two elements wrestled for dominance as Electric Rabbit watched helplessly from the vines.

Seeing the stalemate, Water Whale focused her energy. Waves rose high above the battling brothers and crashed down over them. Fire Wolf's flames weakened and Grass Raccoon's vines slackened.

"No more!" Water shouted again. "We are kin, not rivals!"

Fire Wolf sputtered wetly. Grass Raccoon shook dew from his fur.

Water continued. "This conflict only causes pain. But together we could build beauty."

Electric Rabbit slipped free of the vines and stepped forward. "Water speaks wisdom," he said softly. "It pains me to see such strife between kin."

Fire Wolf opened his maw, ready to object. But Grass Raccoon raised a paw.

"Brother, look around," he said wearily. "What has our feud wrought but destruction?"

Fire Wolf looked at the charred and sodden earth. Smoke curled from extinguished flames. He had been so focused on conquering the others, he had not seen the damage they were inflicting.

"You are right," he said, bowing his head in shame. A single ember fell from his eye, sizzling on the wet ground. "Forgive my foolish pride. You are not enemies, but family."

Water Whale stepped forward and gently touched her head to Fire Wolf's. "There is nothing to forgive. Harmony will always prevail over discord."

Grass Raccoon approached and said "We are stronger together than apart."

Electric nodded. "As equals seeking balance."

Fire Wolf drew himself up, flames burning steadily once more. "Then as kin we shall unite our gifts. No longer warring for dominion but cooperating for the good of our world."

The others voiced their agreement. And so the four elements forged a new bond that would last an eternity. Though different, they recognized that they were greater together than apart. No longer would conflict reign but instead community, creativity, and care for their shared world.

Great piece of writing. Especially liked the dialogue, which read really nicely. Thanks.
