The devil's food: A conspiracy theory

Whenever one gets to remember most of the conspiracy theories told to us by our parents, we only help but wonder how they come about such stories. Although most of the cooked up stories were for our good to instill good morals and behaviors in us.

Seeing that I was told lots of conspiracy theories while growing up, I'll will be sharing this particular one known as the "devil's food". As children then, we had this habit of picking our stuffs from the ground whenever they leave our hands and when I mean stuffs, I mean to say snacks. It was so difficult for us to let go of our biscuits or sweets whenever they fell while eating them so we always like to pick them back, clean and eat. 🤣 This was so becoming used to us and not just myself or siblings, a good number of the children on my street does this same habit.

Seeing it was getting too much, one day I just bought biscuit and upon opening the pack about two fell so just when I was about picking it, my mom said I shouldn't touch it because whatever has touched the ground means it now belongs to the devil and he is going to eat it later. She then asked me if I wanted to eat what the devil has licked and about eaten? of course no was my answer. Good my mom said and that was how i never picked the biscuits again. I wasn't so happy that I had to let go of two big snacks I bought with my big ₦5 and I did felt the pain but then again I never wanted to eat what the devil's mouth has touched.

It was as though all the parents did a meeting about this particular matter that whenever we the children are playing and accidentally someones snacks fall all the children would chorus don't pick it, devil has licked it. 🤣 This continued for a very long time till it became an habit. When my food fall I don't pick it and it never bothers me nor crossed my mind to pick it from the floor of which my mom was proud of the new behavior.

Even before the whole conspiracy charade, we do no it was wrong to pick food from the floor and eat but then we never mind as we always use this phrase "disease no dey kill African man". But then as we began to advance in age and wisdom, we also notice that whatever saliva has touched is supposed to be wet but then whenever we check out biscuit immediately it fell we never saw any changes rather it remains same way sometimes we carefully guard what was fallen and come back after sometine to check if the devil has eaten it but yet there's not even a single changes but still at that we still believed what our parents told us.

Realizing that it was only a sweet lie to enable us do the right thing is not something an angry at knowing fully well it was for my good and that of the rest.

Really a funny one @ene22 . Even up until now we still encourage our children not to pick any food that fail to the ground. Although this is done because of germs 🦠.

Lovely share ❤️
