Recognizing The Relevance OF History

Recognizing The Relevance OF History

There is never a present or a future without a past. My mom and I were discussing some time past about fashion and she began to tell me how most of the clothes and fashion styles we are using now were once used in their day. She spoke so elaborate reaching down to some of our haircuts.

At first I argued but when she presented some pictures of my dad and his friends when they were young I was discomfited. I was shocked to see some of the big trousers and shirts we are parading nowadays and feeling ourselves were once used in the 80s and 90s.

There is almost no difference at all, but I respect their day because life was decent. People respected their bodies and the gifts technology brought their way unlike in our day.

What point am I trying to make here? "History tends to repeat itself," as it has been said. Life is a repetition of what has occurred before mostly in an upgraded version.

For one to be able to unravel the mystery behind anything, history has to be sought. Nothing is new under the earth, we build upon what has been in existence already.

One of the relevance of history is it gives us a clue on how to go about what lies ahead so that we don't make unnecessary mistakes. It leaves footprints for us to be guided on how to navigate on whatever we are going after.

This is why we have books on events that have taken place before, if not for history certain things that have occurred would have looked so impossible leaving us in the dark as to whether they could be achieved or not but thank God, we are not in the dark.

Everything we are experiencing once happened, if you were opportune to interact with a person who brought or invented anything at all, they will tell you they followed an existing principle.

Going by all this, I can say history is something we should not joke with, yet it shouldn't be something that should be forced on anyone.

As good as history is not every history matters to everyone. Some histories might just be a load and a burden.

This is why I don't buy into the idea of making history a compulsory subject in education. Every field has its history, in my opinion. It's best if one focuses on the history of his/her field.

History as a subject is a nice idea but I think it is mostly relevant to those who want to pursue politics and other fields related to politics or those who are obsessed with knowledge but for a medical personnel for instance, what would the history of his country add to his dreams?

I am not against having the knowledge, it's very good but it should be something we learn at our convenience if we want to.

It's so pathetic that most people in the political field don't even have the knowledge of what has occurred before.

Some politicians in my country didn't even go to school. Some who went to school didn't even take the subject seriously, they just jumped into the system and ran the race with so much confusion. Who knows this might be part of the reasons why politics is failing down here.

I am having a feeling that if these politicians had taken their time to study what has once happened, certain mistakes wouldn't repeat themselves and a lot would have been achieved.

History helps us to see our culture and traditions. Your mum did the best job of presenting you with some pictures and has put some good examples.

That is true sir. History indeed helps us to know our cultures.

For the pictures, I was so surprised when I saw them. There is really nothing new under the earth

I agree. Every field, be it hard sciences or social sciences, has its deep history, and no one can master all the fields. So it is important to have firm knowledge of history of one's own field. Nevertheless, as citizens of a paticular country, we need to know about major evnts of the past so we do understand our roles whenever there is a time for our contribution.
