Judgement Day

We are expecting Auditors from an audit firm this week at my office, so everyone is up and doing trying to ensure that their books are clean and we get a pretty good rating. I've not been a stranger to being audited, but this just feels different. If anything the atmosphere feels quite tense as everyone scrambles to clean their books. It is my first time being audited with my new company, and from what I hear it is a pretty big deal here.

Like I said earlier, I've not been a stranger to audit. I've had countless auditors visit at my previous place of employment and while there are always consequences for having a terrible audit, those consequences were heavily downplayed so there was no mad scramble to ensure performance at the last moment. Here things are different with a different set of expectations. Unfortunately since am part of the organisation I now am also sucked in and trying my best to ensure that the audit cycle goes as it should.

I do have obvious criticisms though. The rush to get our house in order and the heavy consequences for even the smallest of infractions says a lot about the culture of my organisation. Yet It also says a lot about employees and we the people, as many people don't seem capable of doing the right thing unless subjected to a hard push. I don't think fear should ever be used as a performance tactic, but I also admit that some people won't act unless they see the potential consequences of their inaction.

Am just hoping for a good audit.

I don’t know much about accounting but auditing seems to be a big deal at any company. I’m wishing you a great time ahead.
