Consistency and Challenges
I remember a few years ago I had a 'steady streak'. By this I mean a consistent period where I did the things I set out to do for a time period. By no means was it easy to do, as people say it gets easier after a while. Rather it was the thrill of completing each task every day that was most satisfying. As someone puts it though there is a reason there are so many teachers and techniques on maintaining consistency, and that is because of its sheer difficulty.
No matter how satisfying the streak is, I ultimately stumble after a while. Sometimes it could be as a result of factors beyond my control like when I lost my dad or the period I was transitioning to another job. Tasks could get overwhelming to the extent that even when I have the desire to take action, am just too physically or mentally worn out to do so. There are other times that I probably can do better but let laziness get the best of me. I've always wondered just how those who seem to maintain an infinite steady streak manage to accomplish this feat.
What is even more impressive to me is the ability for those set of people to pull through any and every circumstance. As much as I try to go easy on myself, I also realize that everyone passes through difficulty in one form or the other. People have different modes of resilience. Some people seem completely unfazed by the difficulties they encounter while others capitulate under them. I've learned from the resilient types that there are very few circumstances that are actually beyond our control. Most times when faced with difficulty we're tested on how we zero into the things that actually matter to us.
These days even the old streaks are hard to come bye. It appears new streaks don't last as long as the old ones. Perhaps what is needed isn't a streak but a habit. There will be no need to get back on the proverbial horse if we don't fall off in the first place.
It's impressive how some keep going despite challenges. I've had my streaks too, but life happens. In my experience,
learning from setbacks, building habits instead of streaks might be the way to stay consistent until we see success
Keep up the good work. 👏
