A Node in A Network

Ever sat down and genuinely thought about your impact in the World around you and your immediate environment? I certainly have. I still think about it from time to time and will put a few thoughts into writing from a financial perspective. From an individual standpoint, I am quite aware that I matter to myself and my family. My mental, emotional and physical shape is quite okay and am really grateful for that. Things start to heat up a bit though when I begin to think about the broader impact I have in my environment and the World around me.

Take my job for instance. I have worked in the financial space for several years now and am still somewhat dissatisfied with my current status. Not because of the position I hold, but because of the perceived impact of my job on my organization and broader community. It leaves a lot to be desired, and certainly feels like my exit wouldn't be a devastating blow. Am not naive though, I give it my best each and everyday why I try to grow personally in other areas within and outside the work environment. I won't simply quit and become unemployed until I have developed the capacity to secure bigger, better and more satisfying roles.

Personal growth is what I am focusing on as it is one way to ensure that our voices never get ignored. If I develop myself well enough, eventually the impact will be felt by my larger community. I see it as sort of a trick to know because we so often want bigger community impact without necessarily recognizing what it takes to get to that point. You can't demand influence without building capacity. It is why perhaps we see a lot of entitled people around the World today, even when they don't have the capacity to influence what they demand.

Hive is a prime example of that. We build influence by our stake primarily and our efforts on the platform. It is possible to come with a level of influence from outside if the dues have already been paid. Take for instance if a popular media personality with lots of followers were to suddenly join Hive, we'd no that give that person support just based on what they've been able to accomplish outside the platform. It isn't the case for the vast majority of people on the chain though, so influence comes to us at a price - either earned over time with enough consistency and trust, or purchased with personal financial sacrifices.

Conclusion

We'd all like to be beings of significance, and this is the likeliest way of that happening in my view. To expand broader capacity we first need to expand personal capacities to perform for ourselves. If everyone here on Hive were a major stakeholder or committed to the platform we'd no doubt see the results. I think that's actually true for a good majority and that's why we've been able to survive and develop so far
