RAPPELLING IN THE SNOWY PEAKS OF THE ANDES MOUNTAIN RANGE, MÉRIDA VENEZUELA
Good afternoon, dear community, a pleasure to access your platform and share with you an experience for lovers of heights, known as Rappel being a method of descent for vertical areas, used in rescue, both in natural and urban environments and this time accessing the snowy peaks of the Andes.
Merida has beautiful Venezuelan Andean landscapes, whose mountainous relief is formed by two mountain ranges, to the North the Culata with 4700 meters above sea level and to the East the Sierra Nevada and the Bolivar Peak at 4997 meters above sea level, the highest in our country.
The landscapes are shown below:
On the 14th of the current month the rescue brigade of the state of Merida, had to train in the area for any eventuality that may occur, since for our state is very normal this type of sports and most people do not take into account the security measures that must be observed, for this requires a professional and his pupils to experience firsthand the risks and precautions against possible cases.
We arrived at 8 am at the well-known Pico Espejo.
We begin with some rappel practice on the structures of the Merida cable car system.
The Cable Car is the most emblematic tourist attraction of our state, in the last station, we meet the beautiful Virgin of the Snows, being the Pico Espejo present, we camp at the base of pico espejo and share pleasant moments under a temperature of minus 5 degrees centigrade, the atmosphere is so strong that a jelly freezes in the open air at night hours.
Below is the route from timoncito to Pico Espejo in the Sierra Nevada National Park.
According to experts in the field of hiking, it is one of the highest and most rewarding landscapes in the world, it has numerous snowy landscapes where climbing and various sports are practiced with perpetual snow.
To perform this activity it is advisable to carry a harness, a safety carabiners, gloves, fiber, helmet and a variety of protective accessories to avoid the risk of free fall or even death.
This sport is extremely rewarding for those who love heights and do not have heart problems, since they put our own physical integrity at risk, such as sunstroke, hypothermia and physical injuries that prevent us from performing the activity.
To avoid these risks, it is necessary to carry with you the required materials and the necessary preventive measures for the exercise depending on the area or site.
For some it is a better way of looking at life since adrenaline helps you overcome fears and control day-to-day fears, knowing how to control vertigo and the fear of falling from heights. For others, besides the satisfaction, it brings you closer to landscapes that are not easily accessible and that we never thought would exist. Nature and its magic on earth are wide and emblematic.
Worldwide, abseiling is a well-paid job, both in rescue and in cleaning windows of buildings, due to the high risk involved.
The photos are my property and I use the deelp translator since my language is Spanish.
The Virgin of the Snows is the protector of rescuers and mountaineers. It is a pleasure to share with you one of the most beautiful landscapes of our country.

Hi @emily22,
Great to see you posting to the TravelFeed community! We launched the #travelfeed curated tag more than 3 years ago and have been supporting the best travel blogs on Hive ever since. But did you know that TravelFeed has evolved? Based on the feedback of thousands of Hive travel bloggers we created TravelFeed.io.
TravelFeed.io brings together all the benefits of Hive decentralized blogging with features that you as a travel blogger will love: Photo galleries, Instagram embeds, custom maps and more. We also offer many of the features you love on Peakd such as drafts and post scheduling. And if you want, you can even use our easy site builder to set up your own travel blog on your own domain which can be a great way to generate a passive income from your blog!
Unfortunately, focussing on developing the best platform for travelers means that we no longer curate the #travelfeed tag and the TravelFeed Hive community. But, you can log in with your Hive account on TravelFeed.io to publish your next travel post, and it will be posted to Hive automatically! Every day, we select the best posts and reward them with an upvote and added visibility.
We would love to see you on TravelFeed.io soon :)
