Who inspires me? Contest #222 (eng-esp)

Hello, Ladies of Hive #community

You guys ask some great questions in your contests and I, not one to hunt for contests, find myself entering them just so I can write about them. So here is my entry for Ladies of Hive #community contest #222.
Who or what inspires me? Who was my role model while I was growing up? I'm going to answer the question by telling you "who." We are social beings and we operate in multiple facets of our society. I myself am now a guitarist, teacher, mother, wife, student, and director of a quartet.
So, growing up, I had several role models whom I wanted to emulate. At home, you could say that I emulate my grandmother. She raised me and everything I know, I owe it to her. She was a strong woman, with character and a lot of ethics. I admired all of that in her and yes, she was a source of inspiration. She still is, in many aspects of life.
Perhaps that is why my teacher Dolores, my PhD tutor, reminds me so much of her and also inspires me as a woman and an intellectual.

As a musician, there are too many to count here. I think it would be enough to mention my teachers, but there have been many. So I will only mention two of the men who have inspired me and inspire me every day to improve as a musician and are a role model to follow, in every sense. They are the Masters Jesús Ortega and Leo Brouwer.
Everyone knows Leo. He is one of the greatest living musicians that exist and I had the pleasure of meeting him, playing his songs for him. Without a doubt, every guitarist has him (or should have him) as a source of inspiration. We would all like to be able to make and reach a place in the history of Cuban and universal music, just as he has done. He is a Master of Masters.

Jesús Ortega is the father I never had. Father as a person and father in music. Today, I still call him “my Master”, because he has never stopped teaching me; not only the guitar, but life lessons. He is someone who inspires me daily with his example. At over 90 years old, he never stops studying and working every day. There is not a time when I go home that he doesn't have the computer on and is writing or making a musical arrangement or rehearsing with the guitar orchestra or giving classes to three or four students. Without a doubt, he is an example to follow. He is someone I would always like to emulate. He is a role model to follow.
I always use him as an example to my students and tell them that this is the path if you want to go far as a musician.
At least, that is my path.

Hola, #comunidad de Ladies of Hive

¿Quién o qué me inspira?

"You guys ask some great questions in your contests and I, not one to hunt for contests, find myself entering them just so I can write about them."

Thank you for your comments! We are happy to provide these weekly posts, which are really more writing prompts and a way of connecting to the other women in the community as they are "contests," per se. I am glad you find them helpful in that regard! 😊
