Middle Peak Quarry in Derbyshire, UK
I don't always like to visit beautiful places. I also like to get down and duuuurty. With that in mind, we visited Middle Peak Quarry in Derbyshire, UK today, which is local to us.
The quarry opened in the 1790s and became a major source of fluxing stone for the Midlands' iron and steel works. Source It's been closed for many years and remains private property but we managed to find our way in. Some great views from the top of the lagoons.
We didn't see any machinery or outer buildings but the place in itself was quite amazing.
Apparently, the quarry was used for the filming of the Star Wars' 'Andor' TV series. Source
There was some beauty around the place as well. Nature tends to take over.
I'm not sure if this was an old storage place for the explosives they would have used at the quarry.
It's quite a big meeting place in the summer when people come down to swim in the pools and have the odd rave! The authorities even dyed the water black to deter people from swimming in it. The water is now back to being a turquoise colour.
The site was quite big and we spent over an hour looking around. Thankfully, we had the whole place to ourselves.

Anything that has Star Wars anything in it gets my vote :)
But I think you maybe mean you do like to visit beautiful places? 😍
You are right, it was beautiful but not everyone would agree. I have strange tastes.
I love Star Wars too. 🙂
Well... may The Force be with you, sister :D
Ha ha! 😁

What happens when the hound goes home? Are you going to buy your own?
I live in an upstairs flat with a concrete garden so I can't just open the back door so he can go to the loo. I have to physically take him over the road every few hours, so owning a dog isn't ideal. The good news is, I'm going back to Bournemouth with him for a week. 😁
As a reward for all your hard work, enjoy!
Thank you!
👍
That is so cool that you can visit an old quarry! Can you also swim there? I know that there are places where you can swim at your own risk, but the water is too cold for me all year round as it's very deep and the sun doesn't get to warm it up.
Lovely photos! Thank you for sharing!
In this quarry you can. There's another quarry where the water is toxic though so not advisable. I can't swim so I stay on terra firma. 😁
