A Mooch Around McGregor's Pond: Circular Walk

I decided to visit Mcgregor's Pond. It's only in the next village to me but I've never been to it before. The pond is tucked away at the side of an industrial area, so I was able to park right next to the pond. It was situated on the aptly name Mcgregor's Way.

The pond was constructed in 1972 by Mr McGregor who ran his own civil engineering company. He dug the pond out to construct a wildlife sanctuary especially for his employees to enjoy. There's fish in the pond and a few wild birds about.

There was an island in the middle of the pond area with a Canada goose having a good scratch.

There was a couple of herons about as well. I think they are from the same family as I've seen about four at the nearby nature reserve. I don't normally see more than one at the same place. I finaly spotted one up the tree.

It later took flight and landed on the other side of the pond until it flew back to the nature reserve.

I saw some more Canada geese, black headed gulls, goosanders and mallards on the pond. There was a cormorant flying around, but it didn't settle, so I couldn't get a photo of it. It is a fishing pond, but I don't think the birds are used to many people being about as even the mallards flew off when they saw me. My village mallards always come towards you for food or just carry on sleeping as they are so used to people walking past.

As it's just after Christmas there were lots of flowers the side of the pond in memory of past loved ones.

It's wasn't a big pond, but it was an interesting first visit. It's always good to spot a heron.

What a scenic pond! Love how many different birds there are (I could never name all of them haha). I think the only time I've seen two different water birds on the same water body was a large Swan and a mallard duck.

Trust me, I'm learning as I go along. 😀 Although, these birds are regular visitors.
