Coffee and Bird Feeding at the Takeaway Cafe

We popped into the restaurant located upstairs in the Visitor's Centre at Carsington Water, a local reservoir.

The restaurant was called the Mainsail, which was quite appropriate as there is a Sailing Club there. It is accessible to all as it allows disabled people to have a go at sailing.

The food and drink have improved this past year. We ordered a couple of lattes and ....

.... a sausage, ale and mushroom pie with chips.

I had a cheese and vegetable pie with vegetables on the side. It was delicious, but it would have been even better with some gravy!

There were some great views from the restaurant over the reservoir. The staff were very friendly and there was a good selection of food that's locally sourced.

There was also an outdoor cafe downstairs for takeaway food and drink.

I popped into the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) shop to buy a bag of bird seed. We put a bit of seed on the tables and the wall and watched the house sparrows fill their bellies.

We reckoned that as we'd had good food and drink, it was only fair the birds did as well!

Couldn't resist another latte to takeaway. You can never have too much coffee!

Never heard of mushroom pie, and don't know if we had around here. Good to see that the french fries had ketchup on them and not the horrid mayo. I'll never forget the time a shopowner poured mayo all over my fries. I had no idea that it was a European thing and was instantly revolted enough to hand them right back to him and demand a fresh batch WITHOUT mayo. Yuck, I don't know how anybody eats that. :)

I know what you mean. I very rarely eat the stuff myself. I definitely wouldn't put mayo on anyone's food without asking. Glad you got a fresh batch. Hopefully, they will have learnt a valuable lesson.

The design of the ceramic coffee cup is pretty unique. A nice change from a plain white cup.

The cheese pie looks amazing, but they must have forgotten the gravy, surely 😅
I like the name mainsail regardless, and it's even more special that it's inclusive.
Lovely sharp photos an the birds have brightened my morning:)))

I will definitely ask for the pie to be swimming in gravy next time. 😃 Have a lovely weekend.

Haha! yeah, you should.
I had a steak and kidney pudding for the first time last night. I prefer a traditional pie though. I like the contrast of the crispier crust. The pudding reminded me more of wet bread. I'm not one to dip my bread in coffee 🙃

Kidneys ... omg. I can remember as a kid trying to eat those without gagging. No wonder I turned vegetarian... 🙂

Haha! I was so anaemic in my early twenties that I had to eat liver and kidney daily for 3 months, to avoid being a vegetable.
I still LOVE both 😋

Coffee with homely delicious pie! What could be better?
The inscription on the saucer is really cute, too.
Sorry about the gravy, though ☕️
PS: those bitds are just the cutest things ever.
