A Walk Around Codnor Park Reservoir, Derbyshire
It was quite warm and sunny this morning so I decided to do a small circular walk starting off at the Ironville Church in Jacksdale, Derbyshire to Codnor Park Reservoir.
Before I got to the reservoir at Codnor Park, I came across a ramp that is supposed to be for wheelchair users to access the park. I know they have to do it in a zigzag fashion so the slope isn’t too steep, but it was more like an obstacle course! There wasn’t much turning space either.
After zigzagging down the ramp I got to the lake. I spotted a coot's nest on the water with mother and a chick on it. Unfortunately, I hadn't got my long lens with me.
There was also a pair of swans with their cygnets. I think mum and dad were teaching their young how to dive for food. They have long necks so can easily get food off the bottom of the lake. The cygnets won't manage that at the moment.
I liked the old rusty footbridges overhead. They're quite low and I'm tall, but I managed to walk underneath it.
There was a lovely park bench in memory of someone.
Underneath the bench I found lots of painted pebbles. I liked the robin one in particular.
There was also a few tree decorations around the seat.
At the smallholding, horseshoes were nailed to the gate with a sign that dogs were running free. Upside down horseshoes usually mean you will get bad luck as the good luck will run out. Perhaps the owner means you will get bad luck if you come across the dogs!
I found a small car graveyard but unfortunately, the old, rusty cars were in someone's garden so I couldn't get any closer.
Walking past the old stone bridge I returned back to my car.
It was an interesting little walk and nice to see the wildlife.
