The Brazilian Northeast is renowned for its rich cultural diversity, stunning beaches and exotic cuisine. In economic terms it is the poorest region in Brazil, but in cultural terms it is very rich. Even so, I consider it to be a region rich in happy, hard-working people who, even without many conditions, manage to revive their traditions and culture year after year.

The month of June is the most eagerly awaited time for northeasterners, as it's home to the 30-day cultural São João festival, which attracts people from all over the country and even abroad. In today's post I want to show you a bit of São João in the "Brazilian Capital of the Fireworks boat", Estância - Sergipe. This city is recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Sergipe, for being the pioneer of the fireworks boat.

Yesterday, June 27, the fireboat competition took place in Estância. These boats are usually made by the "fireworks maker". Fireworks maker make various types of fires by hand and this tradition is passed down from father to son. To encourage this tradition not to die out, every year there is a competition to see who has the most beautiful Fire Boat and whoever wins receives a cash prize from the town hall.

This year we had four Fireworks boats competing in this contest. The boat with the most beautiful theme, the one with the most beautiful fireworks display and the one with the longest distance traveled wins. Below I present each of the boats and their respective themes:

• The first of them was called "Buteco Pinga Fogo", as the name implies, it represents the city's bars, where the locals gather to drink hot alcoholic beverages (Cachaça). Around the boat there are various handmade fires, such as "Buscapé" and "Espadas", which make it look beautiful when they are burning.

• The next boat was "Little sample (Amostradinho)", not really a figure from the Estância region. But he is an instagram character who is having a lot of success with his comical way of representing the Angel of Death. He's also from the Northeast and you can follow his work on his instagram. If you don't like this boat, you might hear a voice in your head saying "I'll be right over!".

• Estância is also home to several heritage houses, one of which is on display on this boat, which is the House at Praça Rio Branco, no. 35. Like this house, several houses were built at the time Dom Pedro II was in Estância, who was responsible for Brazil's independence. This boat also includes one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in the city, in blue, next to the house at Praça Rio Branco.

• Finally, we have the Kekel Family boat, which represents an arraial with all the members of the family. I thought it was a beautiful boat, but in my opinion it wasn't very representative of the local culture. But there's still the light show when the fireworks burn.

After all the Fireworks boat have been presented, the most eagerly awaited moment of the evening arrives. The lights are turned off and each of the boats is placed on a rope, where they are lit to start burning. The boat travels a distance of around 50 meters and then returns. The light show that each boat puts on is beautiful!

In the end, the boat that won the competition was the "Little sample (Amostradinho)". In reality, it proved itself in every way, because it was a beautiful boat and its fire was the most beautiful among the competing boats.

After we left the competition site and were passing through one of the city's streets, there was what the locals call a war of swords. People were throwing firecrackers at each other. We stopped for a while to watch and it really is an adrenaline rush, as people can get burned and yet they enjoy being in the middle of the crossfire. These same fires are used on the Fire Boat.

I hope you enjoyed this post. This is a little piece of the culture of the people of the Northeast, especially the people of Estanciano. They have a passion for São João in their blood and love their land.

O Nordeste brasileiro é reconhecido por sua riqueza de diversidade cultural, praias deslumbrantes e uma culinária exótica. Em termos econômicos é a região mais pobre do Brasil, mas em termo cultural ela é bastante rica. Mesmo assim, considero ser um região rica de um povo alegre, trabalhador e que mesmo sem muitas condições consegue ano após ano reviver sua tradição e cultura.

O mês de junho é o momento mais esperado pelo nordestino, pois nele temos o São João cultural de 30 dias, que atrai pessoas de diversos estados do país e até do exterior. No post de hoje eu quero mostrar a vocês um pouco do São João da "Capital brasileira do Barco de Fogo", Estância - Sergipe. Essa cidade é reconhecido como Patrimônio Cultural Imaterial do Estado Sergipe, por ser a pioneira pelo barco de fogo.

Ontem, dia 27 de junho, aconteceu o concurso de barco de fogo em Estância. Geralmente, este barco são confeccionado pelos fogueiteiros. Os fogueiteiros fazem vários tipos de fogos de forma artesanal e essa tradição passa de pai para filho. Para incentivar, que essa tradição não morra existe todos os anos um concurso para ver quem tem o Barco de Fogo mais bonito e quem vence recebe um prémio em dinheiro, da prefeitura da cidade.

Esse ano tivemos quatro Barcos de fogo concorrendo nesse concurso. Ganha o barco com a temática mais bonita, o que tiver a queima de fogos mais linda e o que alcançar a maior distância percorrida. A seguir vós apresento cada um dos barcos com suas respectivas temática:

• O primeiro dele foi denominado de "Buteco Pinga Fogo", como próprio nome diz representa os bares da cidade, onde os matutos se juntam para beber bebida alcóolica quente (Cachaça). Ao redor do barco temos vários fogos artesanais, como Buscapé e Espadas, que o tornam lindos quando estão queimando.

• O próximo barco foi o "Amostradinho", não é bem uma figura da região de Estância. Mas, é um personagem do instagram que está fazendo muito sucesso com seu jeito cômico de representar o Anjo da Morte. Ele também é nordestino e você pode acompanhar seu trabalho em seu instagram. Quem não gostou desse barco pode ouvi uma voz em sua cabeça "Já vou fazendo sua passagem!".

• Estância também hospeda vários casas como patrimônio material, uma delas esta exposta nesse barco, que é a Casa à Praça Rio Branco, nº 35. Assim como essa casa várias casas foram construídas na época que Dom Pedro II esteve em Estância, quem foi o responsável pela independência do Brasil. Esse barco ainda contempla a umas das mais bonitas Igreja Católicas da cidade, em azul ao lado da Casa á Praça Rio Branco.

• Por fim, temos o barco da Família Kekel que representa um arraial com todos os membros da família. Eu achei um barco bonito, mas na minha opinão não teve uma grande representativadade da cultura local. Mas, ainda falta dar o show de luzes quando os fogos queimarem.

Após apresentados todos os barcos de Fogo chegou a hora mais aguardada da noite, as luzes são apagadas e cada um dos barcos são colocados na corda, onde são acesos para iniciar sua queima. O Barco percorre uma distância de cerca de 50 metros e depois retorna. O show de luz que cada barco faz é muito lindo!

Ao final o barco que ganhou o concurso foi o "Amostradinho" na realidade ele se amostrou de todas formas, pois era um barco lindo e sua calda de fogo foi a mais linda dentre os barcos concorrentes, abaixo um pouco do seu show.

Depois que saímos do local do concurso e estavamos passando por uma das ruas da cidade havia, o que os populares chamam de guerra de Espadas. Onde as pessoas jogam fogos umas contras as outras. Paramos um pouco para observar e é realmente muita adrenalina, pois as pessoas podem se queimar e mesmo assim elas gostam de estar no meio do fogo cruzado. Esses mesmos fogos são os usados no barco de Fogo.

Espero que tenham gostado desse post, esse é um pedacinho da cultura do povo nordestino, em especial o povo Estanciano. Que tem no sangue a paixão pelo São João e ama a sua terra.
