Santa Margherita Ligure on a Rainy Day
One of our days in Liguria was gloomy: early in the morning, light rain was falling. The clouds hung low and unfriendly and the overall grey atmosphere was pulling us into melancholy. However, since staying in the apartment would have been even more depressing, we put on our warmest clothes, grabbed an umbrella and set off towards the station.
Our destination was Santa Margherita, from where we would head to the famous and luxurious Portofino. Portofino had been a place featured in Jeanne Friske’s songs and in the dreams of millions of people who love Italy.
And although it was supposed to be summer, to put it mildly, I was cold. When going to the sea, I had never (probably psychologically) been able to bring a jacket or windbreaker. But it was on days like this that I finally developed the habit. What do you think? When I bring a windbreaker, the weather suddenly warms up and there's no need for warm clothes! T-shirts end up being the most essential item in the wardrobe.
However, the windbreaker becomes a kind of talisman for good weather, tucked away in the bag. As a result, I borrowed an extra sweater from my friend (she had thought ahead for “warmth”) and finally felt some comfort, although my appearance was a bit of a mess.
Hello, wait for us Santa Margherita.
We got on the bus and reached our destination shortly after. The hours of rain had gently dispersed its anger and it continued to drizzle lightly. Santa Margherita Ligure is a small but very beautiful town. Located in the Liguria region of Italy by the sea, it is a charming coastal town famous for its beaches. The town is very close to the famous Portofino. So you can come here and discover beautiful places. For example, the first thing you should do is swim in the sea. The water here is very clean and clear. Of course, if the weather is nice. It also has a large harbor where very beautiful yachts anchor. It is very enjoyable to watch the sea while walking along the harbor.
There are many places to explore in the town. For example, there is an old villa called Villa Durazzo. This villa has a large garden and it’s really beautiful. Also, don't forget to check out the Santa Margherita Church. Inside the church, there are very old paintings. If you love nature, you can visit the Portofino Natural Park and hike in the mountains or simply enjoy the beauty of nature.
The town offers very delicious food. You must try focaccia, a type of bread made with olive oil. Also, fresh fish dishes are very popular. You can sit in a beautiful restaurant by the sea and enjoy fresh seafood.
As you can see, Santa Margherita Ligure is a great place where you can discover beautiful spots whether it’s rainy or sunny.
