Uno de los días más activos en el consultorio, es cuando viene la pediatra a consultar a los niños. Hace día que la doctora que nos atiende por el área de salud, nos lo había confirmado. Que ella venía por nuestro consultorio con fecha del día 27 de este mes, finalmente pudo asistir como estaba programado, aunque se encuentra esperando fecha de vuelo para salir a cumplir misión internacionalista. Por suerte, a mí se me ocurrió, meses atrás, la iniciativa de crear una comunidad, en la app de mensajería que prácticamente usa todo el que tiene teléfono.

Allí, entre varios grupos WhatsApp, tengo creado el de mis lactantes. Es allí por donde les dejo un grupo de información de su interés, que van desde las consultas de pediatría a las vacunas disponibles en el vacunatorio del policlínico. Como recibiríamos a la pediatra, traté de levantarme un poco más temprano esta mañana, para que me diera tiempo de hacer todas las cosas de rutina antes de salir para el consultorio. Cuando tomé la bicicleta para salir de la casa, noté que la goma de atrás ya estaba pidiendo aire.

Por lo que en la ponchera del kilómetro 3 de la carretera a Luis Lazo, le recuperé un poco a cada goma de la bicicleta. Gracias a que en esta instalación tan importante para los que andamos en bicicletas, habían comenzado temprano a trabajar aprovechando el fluido eléctrico. Por el camino, casi llegando al consultorio, me iba encontrando a varias madres que iban rumbo a la consulta. Me tocó ser el primero en llegar esta vez para abrir la consulta; minutos después llegó la doctora. La sala de espera se fue llenando, de muy buena manera, de las mamás con sus bebés, como hacía rato que no veía esta asistencia por allí.

Lo cierto es que se hizo buen trabajo de promoción con los padres de los lactantes, para que ocurriera esto mismo, una buena asistencia. La pediatra todavía demoraba un poco más, aunque había avisado que ya estaba en camino, pero la actual situación del transporte nos obliga a usar nuestros propios medios. Finalmente, llegó para enseguida comenzar su consulta, pero por suerte a mí se me alumbró el bombillo a tiempo, y me puse adelantar trabajo porque era bastante masiva la capacidad.

Tomé en mis manos las historias de los niños que estaban allí esperando, los fui llamando poco a poco para adelantar, haciéndoles al menos los procederes de enfermería, el peso, la talla y así, cuando la pediatra tocara, las historias estuvieran actualizadas. Algunos niños iban sorprendiendo con su evolución en el peso, como los vemos en consultas en los diferentes rangos de tiempo, uno va viendo como ellos comienzan a cambiar de forma. Es una comedia como los bebés más grandecitos se sientan en la pesa de masas y se mueven de un lado para el otro, como si fuera aquello un cachumbambé.

También están los pequeños a los que les llama mucho la atención la cinta métrica, con sus manecitas la agarran a toda fuerza que tienes que hacerle monerías para que la suelten. Nos fuimos un poco más tarde de lo habitual, pero un día no afecta a nadie. Lo importante es que todos los niños que asistieron se pudieron ver, a pesar de que algunos se tuvieron que marchar por lo cercano a la hora del almuerzo de los bebés.

Algunos niños no estaban en el área, pero la doctora nos comunicó que iba a programar otra consulta para recuperar esos niñitos. Estos niños son mi día a día en el consultorio, tengo que mantenerme alerta para que las madres los lleven a vacunar. Para que así tengan su esquema de vacunación actualizado, incluso les realizo vigilancia durante los días previos a la vacunación, por si presentaran algún síntoma que hubiera que reportar en el bebé. Los lactantes, las embarazadas y los grupos de riesgo son la prioridad en el trabajo del consultorio, pero nada como el día de la consulta de pediatría.

Since we would be receiving the pediatrician, I tried to get up a little earlier this morning, to give me time to do all the routine things before leaving for the office. When I took the bike out of the house, I noticed that the rear tire was already asking for air.

Thanks to the fact that in this facility, so important for those of us who ride bicycles, they had started working early to take advantage of the electricity. Along the way, almost arriving at the office, I was meeting several mothers who were on their way to the office. The waiting room was filling up, in a very good way, with mothers and their babies, as I had not seen this kind of attendance there for a long time.

The truth is that good promotional work was done with the parents of the infants, so that this would happen, a good attendance. The pediatrician still took a little longer, although she had announced that she was on her way, but the current transportation situation forced us to use our own means. Finally, she arrived to start her consultation right away, but luckily my light bulb came on in time, and I started to work ahead because the capacity was quite massive.

I took in my hands the histories of the children who were waiting there, I called them little by little to advance, making them at least the nursing procedures, the weight, the height and so, when the pediatrician called, the histories would be updated. Some children were surprising with their evolution in weight, as we see them in consultations in different time ranges, one sees how they begin to change shape. It is a comedy as the older babies sit on the mass scale and move from one side to the other, as if it were a cachumbambé.

There are also the little ones who are so attracted to the tape measure, with their little hands they grab it so tightly that you have to make monkeys out of them to get them to let go. We left a little later than usual, but one day does not affect anyone. The important thing is that all the children who attended were able to see each other, even though some had to leave because of the closeness to the babies' lunch time.

Some children were not in the area, but the doctor told us that she was going to schedule another visit to recover those little children. These children are my daily routine in the office, I have to be alert so that the mothers take them to be vaccinated. So that they have their vaccination schedule up to date, I even monitor them during the days prior to the vaccination, in case they have any symptoms that need to be reported in the baby. Infants, pregnant women and at-risk groups are the priority in the work of the office, but nothing like the day of the pediatrician's office visit.
