Gigantic Cookie Monster Climbing Vine - Let Me Show You My Garden - Garden Journal - Hive Garden - It's A Must Read!

Hey what's up farmers!

I hope that life is treating you well, this month was a busy month, though I feel that I didn't do half of what I was supposed to do!

Let me not bore you with a long intro, the pictures won't be too much in order, but I am sure you'll follow just fine!

Early May

One thing for sure about nature, it will carry on growing on its own! we had a very weird weather since the beginning of spring, we actually lost some crops, didn't have plums, barely no cherries, just small figs, and no nuts; but the rest of the garden kept on growing, especially these thick thorny bushes, that produces blackberries, delicious blackberries!
You still have to make sure they don't over take the entire flora, so we had to trim that bad boy.

I remember watching a video of @alexanderfarm last year where they placed their eggs under a broody hen. Unfortunately, we didn't have fertilized eggs as we got rid of our violent tyrant called Mickael Jackson, so we exchanged some of our eggs with a neighbour that owned a rooster (who also got rid off it ever since, as he also turned violent!) and we placed them under that lady.

She is so crazy though, puffing her chest, being a little bit restless with the rest of the hens, we're making sure she is getting plenty of food and water. Sometimes she rushes out of the coop, grabs some food, some water, and rushes back inside making some "drrr drrr" noises.
She is cool. I still haven't named these hens, and I kind of have a feeling that's what kept them alive.

The other day, I've found a rat in their coop, who was chilling there, waiting for an opportunity to take one of her eggs. So I took our cat Naledi, and dropped her in the coop; she found the rat a day later, and decapitated it in front of our front door... Good job I guess? 😃

IMG_20220524_095605.jpg

A few days later, the cherries were all gone...We kinda expected it, all the birds rushed to eat the small yield that we had this year. Oh well, it's alright, mother nature is doing her thing, I am sure there will be plenty other food to eat, the grappes look amazing!

I've also planted a bunch of tomatoes, I forgot if I showed them to you already. Some of them I grew them for seeds, others I bought from the shop like these ones, I don't think growing tomatoes should even be considered like gardening, because they are doing their own thing, and always thrive when the temperature rises.

End of May

IMG_20220608_192910.jpg

Last year I was ultra motivated to get the biggest harvest possible, and this year I've been trying to make sure I don't burn out, and let nature does what it does best, I actually don't even feel like I am gardening, I try to spend the bare minimum amount of time on the field, every move that I make is an investment, of my time, and working smarter paid off in tremendous ways.

IMG_20220608_193030.jpg

IMG_20220608_193122.jpg

It makes these gardening moment, even more enjoyable, it's just a moment of communion with the nature that surrounds you, I really feel that sinced we moved to the countryside, the farm and the land "accepted us" if it makes any sense?

IMG_20220608_193320.jpg

Ok, so nature also can't be let running too wild, the vine above looks like a cookie monster, I was too scared to climb at the top last year and now it's about to swallow our house whole. 🙃

IMG_20220605_195052.jpg

I had a few drinks that day 😑

IMG_20220607_211131.jpg

A miracle happened the other day, my son Neo decided to help me without me having to ask him, I think it's the first time in his life that it happened, and I almost stopped moving to make sure I don't scare him away, snapped a shot and shed a tear of joy 🤣.

As you can see, food is growing everywhere, even in places where it isn't supposed to grow like in the chicken compost pile, around the fence, and there isn't enough hour in a day for a musician homeschooling dude to take pictures of everything, there's more stuffs growing but now I am spoiling you so we'll see this next month! 🤙

I tried not to mention the potatoes. I think he has PTSD - Potato Trauma (Still Digging).

Beautiful plants my friend, everything looks so lush. I just love the cookie monster.
Those blueberries look sweet, and the grapes are awesome, you going to make some wine for us? 😁 Looked like you had some already in your selfie😆

Happy growing, your son Neo is adorable!

Hello my friend, thank you very much! Funny what you said about the wine, it's actually a strain that is good for white wine from what I've heard.

Looked like you had some already in your selfie😆

Touché 😁

Ed puts cat in chicken coop "Bring me it's head! Don't come back till you do."

Cat next morning "I delivered on my promise, now pay me what I am owed."

Ed walks over and pets cat on head "Good kitty."

Cat purrs, jumps up and runs off into the night.

I don't know where I'm going with this story buy I've come to far to delete it.

Anyway, too bad about the lack of plums and cherries this year but awesome that your son helped you out there 👍.

Hahaha look at you making some crime-thriller, starring kitty 😄

I am happy you didn't delete it, I would probably read an entire story about that!

Thanks for passing by dude, we're ok, at peace with not having it all! Nature's in charge, yadi yada!

Take care my friend ^^

YEs, it does. And I'm so glad you've settled into a rhythm. Have you decided to stay now? The land certainly looks like it wants you to!

Can't wait to see the baby chick posts! Neo's going to LOVE them when they come!

Well, we will probably buy the farm, but we'll still travel and rent the place out. Best of both world, we've booked a place in Spain for 3 months, so far so good, unless they close down the world once again.

And you what are you up to? Still on the move? Did you finish fixing up the rover?

Can't wait to see the baby chick posts! Neo's going to LOVE them when they come!

It's been tough! We had 7 eggs, and 4 of them has been eaten & destroyed, and yesterday night, one just was found empty. We decided to move her to a cage, making sure nobody gets inside the coop at night and kill the little ones.

We're so close to hatching day, no fuck up! I'am even thinking of having the dogs guarding the cage tonight, getting them on the leash.

Berries?!!!! I get green (and no that's not because of veggie juice) whenever you brag about your wonderful berries. Don't the chickens eat them? Here it's too cold to have too many brag photos from the garden. Although we are really busy. But we did have an amazing outing to the neighbouring game reserve that I think would make you "homesick"

I don't know why I love rhinos's big butts; and I wonder what it says about me 😁

whenever you brag about your wonderful berries

Right? And I am so casual about it, like "ooh yes here are my blueberries" 😁

I am equally as green as you are, amazing shot by the way! I have a friend that owns a mansion right in the middle of a game reserve, and I had the best time ever watching animals coming closer to the house.
What else did you see?

Thank goodness I got blueberries from the farmers market, otherwise I would be extremely jealous of yours. I'm still jealous, but not extremely so. ;)

Things are looking good! Though I might disagree a little bit on the tomatoes. Between the hornworms that emerge to munch entire plants to the nub and the squirrels constantly trying to eat the rest, it is a labor of love to get many to our table, haha! They may grow themselves, but it's a full-time job protecting them to harvest!

In all honesty the ones from the farmers are always bigger than mines, but not tastier!

They may grow themselves, but it's a full-time job protecting them to harvest!

I guess I am just being lucky! I know the neighbour sneaked in and sprayed my tomatoes with lime a few days ago to prevent mildew. Last year I told him no to do it, but he almost had an heart attack explaining why I was wrong, so this year I just let him spray, if it makes him happy. 😄

It's funny how from one year to the next the same bushes, or trees can vary so much in how much fruit they produce. The great thing is that when mother nature produces an abundance, there's plenty for the birds and other critters, and there's still plenty left for us humans.
Neo must be starting to grow a Green Thumb like his dad. Digging in without having to be persuaded, you must be doing something right.
I'm not a cat lover, but they sure are good at keeping the rodent population down.

"I really feel that since we moved to the countryside, the farm and the land "accepted us" if it makes any sense?"
That makes all the sense in the world. This feeling is one that takes time as we work the ground, sweat bullets, get dirt under our fingernails and realize just how precious mother nature is.
We are at her mercy and become thankful and much more aware of the gifts she bestows on us. In return we come to appreciate these blessings and transform into stewards of the land.

Indulge in a little of that funny vegetation and you may find yourself eye level with that vine that is consuming your home.

It sure looks as though you and the family are doing great and that is really what life is all about when you have a family.

Peace my friend.

The garden is looking great Ed, gardening is an adventure eh, full of surprises. The most important thing is to allow nature to run it's course and surrender to what is eaten or does not grow well. This is my first growing season in my garden so it is an experiment really, but my tomatoes are looking good and I have lots of Basil.
Sending you all lots of love xxxx
