There is a common saying that second parts are usually worse than the first or the general public may care a little less in comparison. But the Conjuring Verse has shown that this is not always the case, I personally like Conjuring 2 better than 1 and not to mention Annabelle that 1 is terrible but 2 has a great redemption, there are even times when we don't even get to have a second part as is the case of La Llorona. One of the aspects that I liked the most about this new installment is the performance of its protagonist, Thaisa Farmiga, who in case you didn't know is the sister of Vera Farmiga, who plays Lauren Warren. Thaisa has a lot of charisma when acting and I think she makes a great duo with Storm Reid who plays the novice Debra, since she is more skeptical and gives an interesting touch to the story, plus I don't know what it is about Storm in particular that I like every time I see her in a production as it was in the case of Euphoria.

Thaisa tiene mucho carisma al actuar y me parece que hace una gran dupla con Storm Reid que interpreta a la novicia Debra, ya que ella al estar de lado más del escepticismo le da un toque interesante a la historia, además que no sé qué tiene Storm en particular que me gusta cada que sorpresivamente la ve en alguna producción como fue en el caso de Euphoria.

I think one of the things I liked the least about the story of The Nun is that it moves too far away from real horror, so to speak, and takes us more to a fantastic horror. I feel that the magic of this kind of movies lies in making you believe that all the things that the characters go through could happen to you too. This is the case with conjure 1 and 2, which are at least based on real events with their fantastic touches, but at the end of the day there are photos, audios or videos of the real people behind the stories, but with the nun this does not happen, so I think it is more difficult for me to feel connected with its universe and its characters.

Creo que una de las cosas que a mi menos me gustó de la historia de La monja es que se aleja demasiado del terror real, por así decirlo, y nos lleva más a un terror fantástico. Siento que la magia que tiene este tipo de películas radica en hacerte creer que todas las cosas que viven sus personajes te pueden pasar a ti también. Así es el caso del conjuro 1 y 2 que están al menos basados en hechos reales con sus toques fantásticos, pero al final del día hay fotos, audios o videos de las personas reales detrás de las historias, pero con la monja esto no pasa, por eso creo que para mí es más difícil sentirme conectado con su universo y sus personajes.

In this second installment sister Irene must face Valak again, who is looking for an "object", since being a fallen angel with this "object" she would gain so much power that she would become invincible. Considering this premise, I find the story to be very non-propositional and it doesn't enrich the plot very much. Another thing I liked the most was the inclusion of the new enemy, which has a peculiar shape and I must say that his appearance almost scared me. I also liked that the new enemy was behind the girls of the boarding school who are insufferable without cause, they are the cliché of the bad girl just because, because you are the baddest girl in Malolandia.

En esta segunda entrega la hermana Irene se debe enfrentar de nuevo a Valak, quien busca un “objeto”, ya que al ser un ángel caído con este “objeto” ganaría tanto poder que se volvería invencible. Teniendo en cuenta esta premisa, me parece que la historia es muy poco propositiva y no enriquece mucho la trama. Otra de las cosas que más me gustó fue el incluir al nuevo enemigo, el cual tiene una forma peculiar y debo decir que con su aparición casi llego a asustarme. También me gustó que el nuevo enemigo estuviese detrás de las niñas del internado que son insufribles sin causa, son el cliché de niña malo solo porque sí, porque eres la más mala de Malolandia.

While the small plot of the new enemy is interesting and manages to get a start or two, the rest of the film is terribly predictable, all the places where you can imagine that the nun is going to come out, comes out and all the camera movements lead to perceive the jump scare (I hate when they abuse this), which if it were not for the sound effects would not cause a great impact. The special effects of the film are well worked, although sometimes it is noticed that it relies heavily on the darkness to perhaps hide flaws and prevent them from looking not very credible, but the rest seems to me that it manages a pretty decent display of practical and special effects, especially during the final confrontation against Valak. As I said before all this story takes us to a more fantastic terror because the nun sometimes seems to have powers in the mere Marvel or DC style and when this demon gets the "object" it looks like Thanos getting an infinity stone.

Si bien la pequeña trama del nuevo enemigo es interesante y llega a sacar uno que otro sobresalto, el resto de la película es terriblemente predecible, todos los lugares en que te puedas imaginar que va a salir la monja, sale y todos los movimientos de cámaras llevan a percibir el jump scare (odio cuando abusan de esto), que de no ser por los efectos de sonido no causaría un gran impacto. Los efectos especiales de la película están bien trabajados, aunque a veces se nota que se apoya mucho en la oscuridad para quizás, ocultar defectos y evitar que se vean poco creíbles, pero el resto me parece que maneja un display de efectos práctica y especiales bastante decente, en especial durante el enfrentamiento final contra Valak. Como lo dije antes toda esta historia nos lleva un terror más fantástico porque la monja a veces parece que tiene poderes al mero estilo de Marvel o DC y cuando este demonio consigue el “objeto” se parece a Thanos consiguiendo una piedra del infinito.

In short, The Nun 2 is certainly better than its predecessor, but it is nowhere near the moments of glory that this universe has had. It's a popcorn movie to watch at the cinema with friends that if not analyzed will surely be a great moment of terror mixed with some nervous laughter. It will make you jump out of your seat once or twice, plus it will make you want to see Ed and Lorraine face a new case hopefully based on a real life story.
