My Twitter Journey Part 1 - Getting Started
I have been putting some effort into using Twitter and learning how it works, since I announced recently I got a blue checkmark.
On the one hand I am reminded why I abandoned social media long ago - its total work, and feels so 'zoomer'y. But I do know how to create content after 6 years on HIVE, I need to create more video content anyway, and maybe - just maybe - it will be good for me and HIVE in the medium to long term if I put in the effort.
After all, I'm interesting! I could be 'an influencer' 🤣
Why not?!
Well, first of all, its hard to get noticed. I kind of tried to use twitter with @nathanmars back in the day, so I have shot a lot of 'words' into the void back in the day and have already connected to a few accounts - I started with 468 followers. From here we 'build'.
So of course there is plenty of 'twitter guru' space that will teach you and coach you how to 'get better' at twitter.
What have we learned so far?
1. shouting #hive into the void is not working.
This point I learned back in the day. Reps don't really help when you are just shouting at each other. Crypto twitter really is terrible for shilling coins.
I am going with 'Manager of non-traditional portfolios'.
As you can see, #HIVE is there - I have also picked two more tags for my profile - Permaculture and #BTC - and I have linked the concepts throught 'Decentralized Tools of Independence'
If you must know I have edited my profile 22 times in 11 days 🤣 The 160 character limit is really tough.
2. Changing my name or profile image is 5 business days with no check mark.
And the 'reach' really goes down during that period, especially with some of the strategies we are going to be using to pump that follower account, that is the 'number to track really especially for small accounts.
We are up to 516 today.
3. Leaving comments helps.
Who remembers @abh12345 comment contest? (Hive Engagement League?) Yeah well I was the top numbers in that for a few weeks and competed with a legend @janton and finally raised money to get him a new chair.
Anyways, the point is - I can do this.
So who are we commenting on?
Well, that's the tricky part. There are all sorts of ridiculous hustlers out there commenting on posts of top accounts. Which top accounts? ALL midsized to larger accounts. And some of these would definitely get downvoted on HIVE 🤣
Everybody is 'hustlin'.
Because you can make 'engagement money on twitter'. From 'impressions'.
🤣
Lots of people showing off they making 15 or 20 dollars twice a month. Its real money.
But its not really what we came for. I can make more than that flipping dCity cards playing my autistic spreedsheet game that I'm so good at.
4 identify niche
This is hard for me. Which is why I worked so hard on my profile. If I am 'social media-ing' with one hand tied behind my back, I won't stick with it. But this is a problem I have had 'branding' myself since forever, even on HIVE.
I do more than one niche. It is literally the stupidest social media sin to multi-niche, but I can't help it - because it all connects in my head. Imagine real life is like DnD or a video game and I am a multi-classed character.
So I have been struggling with this for a while, and I have decided to use the PeakD Collection feature to help organize my stuff. I got a Philosophy Collection so far.
This has come in handy, as I can 'sometimes' find a comment where an obvious answer might include a link to one of the 83 philosophical articles I have written before. Cool plan right?
Right now I am using PeakD links, should I be using inleo links? What do you all think? @anomadsoul was supposed to pitch me on the idea officially.
5. Make friends (a network or cadre of people)
This is an interesting point. We need to figure out how to work together. I am putting together a team.... starting to re-recognize people. There are a number of HIVE people. Its a different world tho, a new school. We can't all just sit at the same lunch table talking to each other.
Still learning though. But here's what I am seeing a lot of, email newsletters. Subscription services. Courses, pdf guide sales. Sales funnels. The ad money is probably peanuts for all but a few hundred accounts, and finance twitter (fin-twit?, no maybe we are still in 'hustle-twit') has other things to sell.
'Provide value'. I remember making STEEM and HIVE guides back in the day because it was an underserved space. Here everyone is babbling out loud about how to do this stuff, people are jumping all over each other to tell you HOW TO USE TWITTER.
So I started paying attention. Because I need to make videos. Like need to make ecological videos. I actively have a burning need to make documentation videos of around the farm. On the regular. So let's kill two birds with one stone.
6 The twitter 'long-form' content.
even shorter paragraphs
Keep pressing enter - say another thing!
So a 'long-form' is a tweet over the 280 characters, where the people have to click 'see more'. Only blue checkmarks can do this, its a super power.
Turns out, long threads have a sucky reach. "Long-forms" have better reach.
So if you notice that I am pressing enter a lot more than usual, know that I am working hard for you HIVE, and back and forth to twitter I be going.
I made first real attempt today, complete with an 8 minute video.

Notice the ever tempting - SHOW MORE button! This is what you want, just enough - not too much. Not more than once per day. (Sound familiar?)
7. Other Content types
There are two types of reblog - the retweet without comment. People don't even necessarily 'see' that its from you. Unless they hate it, then they will notice that its from you and hate you. Or something. "Consider unfollowing you".
Don't reblog offensive or particularily stupid things.
Then there is the 'Quote Tweet' - where you get to leave a comment, short form or long form, and another tweet, by another user or yourself, appear under it. 3-5 good quote tweets per day - honestly it sounds like you can use twitter too much and its not that good for reach. It seems to work for others though, but possibly others that were more successful already before the recent switches.
Quote tweet of a Quote tweet doesn't work, it doesn't look right and they can't see the earliest tweet without another click, load.
You can retween your own tweets multiple times, and it is actually encouraged to repurpose content. You can quote tweet your old posts and add new comments. And I will be canibalizing this post for tweets in the upcoming week.
Because Splinterlands Land is coming out on Tuesday. (Idea! use this time to change my name and profile picture because I am going to be busy!) I am currently literally tweeting for bits at a time while resting between farm work. Planted 35 congo plants, expanding our crop of this slow growing but valuable tropical plant.
Oh and I started trying to organize my Philosophy Collection into a book. And grind out 3-4 posts a week, for which I have multiple projects I operate to draw from.
Cannibalize HIVE posts for tweets, so expect one or two of these twitter diary posts on HIVE each month.
8 Everything but #btc is a shitcoin.
So this is a hard one. Obviously I operate multiple tokens (all of my tokens are asset backed, I don't have any inflationary tokens). So I have found a use case that I like and am comfortable with.
Plus, I build on #HIVE, which is an 'ecosystem'. Its really a 'coin' not a 'token'.
If you don't believe me that this is complicated, then refresh your memory with a shill and a miss. This is a deal breaker for me, I will quit before I make it if I have to deal with that sort of stuff.
Which is why I am picking my multi-faceted niche so specifically. I will link to #HIVE-hosted posts, I have #HIVE in my profile. Rarely mention anything else.
I like playing games. Games do have tokens but I will be very careful about 'shill'. I am a philosophical farmer who manages non-traditional porfolios including farmland with decentralization ethos!
My link is to the SuperHive site (by @bambukah) that pulls from the peakd.com/@ecobanker link. One day I will figure out how to talk about that, not yet, but when we get closer - when certain communities are feeling rich, or such time as when I have gained some confidence at how to sell on Twitter, though becoming more comfortable about how Twitter works.
9. Make a mastermind group
I really hope I don't have to run it 😅
What can you do?
Follow me. But also -
Comment on my posts. I will comment back, the algo loves comments and reply and responses to comments.
Retweet some of my stuff if you think it is good!
Quote tweet a comment on one of my 'long-forms' or videos.
And do this to the HIVE users that are playing this game. Reach out to me if you want to be part of the mastermind group (requirement - you have a blue check). Support the Master mind!
The mastermind is more than doing these actions for each other. Its about sharing strategies on building a niche account on twitter. I think we will do a lot better if a group of us play this 'serious' twitter strategy game together.

That is a lot of changes on your profile.
I agree that people shouldn't tweet out stupid stuff. It does clog up people's feed and people are easily annoyed. In a way, everything you do there tends to be public (including your likes). So people need to be a little careful to attract people.
Good luck. It is interesting to follow your progress. Being multi -niched is natural in the real world, but I think can backfire in that your tweets are shared to those who don't want that content and they request less tweets from you that will punish you in the algo...
Some trends are twitter usage is down 20% y-o-y... There are dozens of short form content platforms now...
Sharing strategies are great for building a specialized Twitter account.
Some ideas include identifying your target audience, researching relevant hashtags, participating in chats and conversations, sharing quality content consistently, interacting with other users, and using scheduling tools. Playing this strategic Twitter game together will help us grow.

I am noticing that using hashtags (like links) reduces the reach substantially.
Possibly included the hashtags (like the links) in a reply to the original tweet.
If your (X) tweets maintain the same level of knowledge-backed information and sincere intent like they do here on HIVE, you should do well.
Either that or be controversial. That seems to work wonders over there. And giveaways.
Bit I'd rather see you stay true to you than become like all the others. Gnothi Seauton, man.
