1 Year on - What are the results of my dCity beginner city?
Almost 1 year ago, just before Christmas, I told everyone that it was still a good idea to start dCity, and made a guide and a follow up about how to do it - by doing it myself. So I stopped in on the city today to check out the progress - I have been checking in about once per month thoughout the year, so about 11 or 12 times since I wrote the last post in January.
How's it look?
Well it looks pretty good, just like I expected! After the pretty recent popularity update, I had to go through and make some decisions, ending up listing a few buildings for sale like the construction companies and the TV stations. I'm not sure if a few have sold yet or not, but there are still a few on the market that haven't been sold yet.
Now these 14 cards are not included in the estimated value of the city, although I still own them. I think I will leave them hanging for now, and maybe lower the price next month if they are still there. Patience is a virtue!
I went into the dashboard, and discovered our estimated values:
So the 'dump price' for all our NFTs are 730,106 SIM, currently worth 169 HIVE; the buy price for the same NFTs based on the market is 1.5 Million SIM - or 347 HIVE! Remember, we spent ~160.5 HIVE to build our city 1 year ago - so the prices have held up really well even though the price of SIM has fallen about 20% over the last year in HIVE terms.
We also happen to have 112854 SIM on hand, worth just over 26 HIVE at the time of posting.
We are just holding this SIM, as it is producing daily holding rewards. I checked the wallet on peakd and it looks like we are getting 0.021 HIVE daily for holding this amount of SIM, and our SIM Power is going up daily.
We also have 7.4 HIVE liquid in the wallet, that we have earned over the last year. If we include the current SIM as liquid rewards, this means we have liberated 33.5 HIVE so far this year, on an investment of 160.5 HIVE - a 20.8% return - not too shabby!
But our capital base in terms of NFTs has also risen, to calculate let's take the middle value between buys and asks - or 1.115 Million SIM. This amount is worth 258 HIVE right now, or a 60.7% increase over our initial investment.
Combining the two numbers, we get a value that is 181.6% of our initial investment 1 year ago. I am super happy with this, and conclude thus that getting into dCity one year ago was still a viable investment. Does this mean that if you get into dCity right now, at this time, you will do as good as this over the next year? Hard to know.
But I am totally willing to let this city ride another year and see the results. I will leave you all with a message from @gerber, our fearless leader of dCity:

I will have a look at your follow up guide on how to play dCity. I looked at it briefly once a long time ago, but really couldn't understand what I was looking at and left it at that, I never put the effort into looking further.
It does seem to be a very "fire and forget" kind of game from what you say above.

Yes! And no... the updates can make it hard to keep up, I have the benefit that I pay attention and know whats happening because I don't only manage this city.
One tricky thing now is that third edition closed.... so my original guide is not as relevant as it was at the time.
But I think soon they will launch new starter cities, I'll make a post when they do!
This is very good information. It seems that the investment was worth the risk.

I’ve never played this game before
Do you have an idea of how much money I can start this game with?
Yo siempre quise entrar a ese juego , pero nunca lo entendí. Crees que tiene futuro para 2024 y puede alojar a nuevos jugadores?
I can join with another EPIC Plot in Pandon Reach. It is a Desert. It is fine if its not of the same terrain. I will send 10K DEC for the Building in a Box. Where Do I send my assets for the swap?
Edit: Make it 2 Epic Plots.
Fantastic, we will take them both!
One thing to mention, I have all the epics cleared - the changes on these plots are becoming harder and harder to value!
Do you have any terrain preferences? It looks like all the epic naturals have grain farms on them.
Cand send assets to
treasure.hoard
for staging!Poke me here when you are ready!
I will send them to @treasure.hoard along with 20K DEC now. My Cards are diversified. I should be able to manage any type of Terrain.
Transaction Completed!
Confirmed! Operation in route, will confirm 👍
Thank you! I was waiting to get my production started. I wanted to get into Research Points. It won't even have many immediate use cases. But I don't want to be in a scenario wishing I had doe more Research. I already have some Grain and 1 of 3 Epic Plots I have in Pandon Reach has a Grain Farm on it. I should be able to manage adding some Common Plots into Grain production if needed.

Plots sent!
Thank you! I will get started on them :-)
I don't see the Plots in Pandon Reach. There has to be 3 Plots.
oh no, a mistake was made, I have a support ticket in. can you spot the error? Looks like the plots are in limbo 😭

Is it because of using @peakmonsters to transfer Land instead of the regular interface? I don't know much about how the backend work. I used up my DEC on some Common Plots to make sure my Magical + Occupied Plots get enough Grain. I don't mind to wait at this moment.
There is a space in the username vimukthi, right before the V. I think in the end this will be fixable, I will keep you informed!
Now I notice it! They should upgrade the L2 to make the transactions atomic and make them invalid if the username or any other data is invalid. You are helping to find new bugs for the project. That's the silver lining in all of this.

I think the issue is resolved. I sent them again, please confirm!
Thank you and thank you again for sending already cleared Plots.

@vimukthi sent you LUV 🙂 (1/1)

They were the only ones I had in epic flavor!
A little bonus for you - in the mean time I need to do some thinking/math about the value differential between cleared and uncleared plots is - its starting to come up!
This is going to get really exciting when we start building things on land.
I would like to think of them in Time Crystals. If the buyer needs to build something different, that change cost 50 Time Crystals. A common natural Plot that has been cleared should be valued $10 - $15 more. It's not a perfect number by any means. 80% good is good enough for me to make decent decisions before diminishing returns of extra number crunching kicks in.
PS: Now I think about the edge case where extra number crunching reveal some useful insights that can multiply ROI. Then I think about how many smart people are crunching numbers and how long such a thing could remain unnoticed. There is going to be someone to write about it open source it!

I have a few questions - was not in DCity since over a year and now UI all looks different, to see stats they tell me i need to use desktop app? Waht is this? I am confused, looks totally different than before :-)
Many changes and upgrades have been made - you can see certain things in the mobile site, but the desktop version is much more complete. Protip - you can scale your resolution on your screen to trick it into thinking its on a desktop while still on your phone or tablet.
i use my laptop but still it looks strange, can not find market and what i own to be honest, did monstermarket stop supporting DCity?
I never knew they did! I know nftm.art does
Try
