Rekindled Connections: Rediscovering Childhood Friendships

Friendships from our early years have a particular place in our hearts since they shaped our formative years with shared experiences, innocent secrets, and limitless imagination. These relationships give us a sense of belonging and joy during the formative years of our lives, and they are frequently treasured for a lifetime. However, it is usual for childhood friends to drift apart and lose touch with one another as the years go by and circumstances change. Many people may identify with the heartbreaking sensation of losing connection with someone we previously knew well and later reconnected, It is a bittersweet feeling and I have had my own fair share.

Efe and I met in primary school. As classmates and seatmates we did a lot of things together- played together, enjoyed the break period together, walked back home together. Although we didn't live in the same area but we would gist and play until we get to the junction where we both go our separate ways. My friendship with Efe got closer when I found out her aunt was our neighbor. So whenever Efe comes to visit her aunt we spent more time together

Every single time Efe comes to visit her aunt, it was an opportunity for us to spend more time together, chatting and playing and sometimes get to do our assignments together
Efe and I became so close and fond of each other. We wished and hoped we'd attend same secondary school after our primary school education. And also get into same tertiary institution after secondary school education. But our hopes were dashed when Efe left Harrobs. She left without saying goodbye. All I knew was that I stopped seeing my best friend in school and at her aunt's place. I later got to find out they moved out of the area to somewhere very far although still in Lagos but truth is the chances of meeting her again seemed so slim since we didn't own phones as at then and our parents weren't close to have had each other's contact. And that was how years passed and we didn't hear from each other again.
The only time I saw Efe was on pictures -the one we took during our graduation party in school before she left.
Efe and I didn't get to see or hear from each other again until when I got into the tertiary institution.
On that cool evening I was going through posts on Facebook when a notification popped up- A friend request from EFE SAMUEL. Wow! That name sounds very familiar. I checked the profile picture of the person, guess who it was! My childhood best friend! I was so excited, I accepted the friend request and we got talking again. That was in 2019. We kept talking over the phone and kept planning to meet but each time we made plans, something else comes up and ruin the plans. But we kept in touch. Fast-forward to 2022, Efe and I got to see again. She came visiting and even stayed for a week at my place

We shared memories, laughed, ate together, hung out together, and created new memories
We became close again!
