Small Garden, Big Dreams of Growing My Own Greens... =)

If your hobby and pastime are planting or gardening, expect that this might happen to your hands or other parts of your arms and legs if you don’t use any protection.

Cleaning and organizing our vegetable garden was quite challenging because of the dried grass surrounding it. I had to dig deep to bury the dried grass in the soil, turning it into fertilizer instead of burning or throwing it away.

The rectangle shape I dug to bury the dried grass was about 40 to 50 centimeters deep, and I did it layer by layer. After a layer of grass, I added soil, then grass again, followed by more soil. Once finished, I watered it to soften and accelerate decomposition. Within a week, it will be ready for planting.

If you’ll notice, the soil I used is quite dark because it’s composed of decomposed leaves and grass that have been stored in sacks for a long time. Most of the leaves came from various types of trees.

The stones and ceramic tiles I used were old, unused items stored in the shed. Most of them were broken or had cracks, so I decided to repurpose them in my garden. They helped raise the soil level slightly, saving me from having to dig too deep.

I used coconut husks with a bit of soil to germinate the seeds. This helps retain moisture and allows the coconut husks to decompose slightly.

Here are the squash seedlings I transferred from the rectangular plastic container. There are two of them, with the other one on the opposite side. However, I’m not entirely sure if one of the two will survive since there’s no guarantee it will be safe from birds or insects.

This is the container for the bitter melon seeds, where I germinated them. Out of six seeds, only two successfully sprouted. That’s why it’s always better to plant extra seeds, just as I did, to ensure a higher chance of success.
