What 2024 has Taught me
"This year is my year" A funny kind of statement of faith we make at the beginning of every year , especially in Africa. Oftentimes we believe each year will come with a new possibility that will make things work for us at ease- a costly assumption that has become a culture. The year 2024 has been a difficult one, a year that started so innocently suddenly left us hopeless and fighting for survival instead of reaching a goal, and through these struggles, I've made so many mistakes and at the same time learned valuable lessons. I'll be sharing a few ones that have changed my perspective about so many things.
- Prepare for the worst while hoping for the best
Ever heard of plan A & B? It's a remedy for heartbreak. Put all your eggs in one basket and you'll cry your eyes out from one failed step. I'm a strong believer, but this year taught me that nothing is certain, life happens , and vicissitudes come at will. So I've learned to expect less, prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.
Some Information are not meant to be shared
Good news is actually great, however, keeping certain good news can take away certain attention from you. People start to have high expectations of you at every good news shared , thereby increasing responsibility and envy. Not everyone is happy seeing us grow, so why spread it abroad when you're safer keeping them to yourself. I've had several disappointments this year from things that should have been good newsFinally, Focus on what's important, you can't do everything at a time
At one point we want to do everything, be everywhere and have everything, but life doesn't work that way, it's often a process and oftentimes requires a step at a time. I've had failed projects this year and I realized it was because I wanted to do so many things at a time. Slow and steady wins the race, unfortunately we have to learn it the hard way to Believe.
But then, there are things to be grateful for, one of which is life, to push harder next year with a new spirit and the fact that I've grown past the old me and one good memory is the laughter and beautiful moments I've shared with families - it's priceless.
