Tale of Zamunda
A loud crow of a cock revealed the blissful sunrise of Zamunda. It was a small town surrounded by mountains and tall trees. Save for its market where varieties of food were sold, it wouldn't have been noticed by strangers. Aladdin, the king, stood on the roof of his palace and admired the beautiful plains. It was his routine every morning, as if the realization that he was a ruler of this plains brought joy to his soul. He had six wives, all from a different clan. He believed marrying a daughter from the other clans was a strategy to maintain peace.
Maimuna was the eldest of them, she was beautiful and bold, and was the wife of his youth.
"Maimuna" he called, inviting her over the balcony.
"Isn't Zamunda beautiful?" He asked,
"My Lord, it's the most beautiful among ten thousands of clans" she replied. He spread his chin, Satisfaction written all over his face. Maimuna seems to understand him more than the others, he dare not invite the others with such a question else his mood would be spoiled. Daura had once asked him a question that bothered him when he enquired of Zamunda. "What have you done to keep this plains for your generations and next, perhaps intruders invade your plains someday?" As much as the question was relevant, her thought of invasion vexed him and remained his nightmare.
One beautiful morning while the king was standing on the balcony watching the plains and the women who went about their daily activities, he noticed a cloud of dust from afar, 2 chariots of horses sped up in the plains, and gradually they approached his palace. The people looked strange, not like any he had seen in the clans surrounding him.
"Your plains look beautiful my king" the strangers who dressed on red ropes said.
"Thank You. To what do I owe this visit?" He asked.
"You may not recognize us, but your late father does" he sat on the chair next to him and turned to face the plains, "what a beautiful plain" he said , then turned to face the king whose wrath was gradually building up.
"Who are you strangers?" He asked, this time with a raised voice.
“I'm Adekunlapo, a native of this town. 27 years ago, my father was the ruler of this plain was killed by your father, now I'm here to take what is rightfully mine”
Aladdin summon the soldiers and surrounded him. "Seize this Lunatic" he commanded. Just before they could grab him, he found his way with his friend and fled but dropped a note that he would return.
Aladdin couldn't sleep that very night. His nightmare was becoming a reality. He called the elders of the town and sought for answers.
"Yes, it is so" one of the elders told him, the others denied, afraid they would be killed like the others who were locked up. Aladdin set siege around the small village, and called up armies from other clans to protect him against the intruders' attack, but little did he know, his enemy was in his household. Maimuna poisoned him a week later, she happened to be the daughter of the king who was killed. But before his death, as he struggled on top of his balcony for breath, he laid a curse on Zamunda to eat up any king who came after him. Zamunda remained a land with no king after the death of Aladdin.
