My Take On Equal Payment among worker
The joy of every worker is an increment in their salary, with some receiving a little below others depending on their cadres. While some people feel an equal payment among workers would have ceased the rivalry and conflict, others believe the unequal payment is suitable for every working environment. Everyone has their opinion with good reasons backing up their claims. I've seen workers who are earning high yet with little experience in the field and also there are workers with little pay who are good at what they do. Many believe the reverse would have been the case, where someone with experience earns higher and one with no experience lower. But then, cadre is important, it's automatically believed that people who have stayed longer in a job should have better experience both practically and theoretically.
There is more harm than good if workers are paid equal salaries. First it doesn't recognise the place of experience and knowledge, and secondly it doesn't acknowledge one's years of service. Every sector in life has a level, the higher one goes, the more experienced he has and the better service he renders. If workers are to be paid equally, then a lot of people wouldn't desire to gain more knowledge, a lot of people would be satisfied with their level of understanding because more knowledge has no impact on their salary. The reason why there is healthy competition in the workplace is because of the recognition and incentives that come with it. Once it's removed, no one cares anymore and people may not give out their best because no reward comes with it.
If there is an equal payment in a workplace, no one would like to do a credible job because an increase in cadre would mean nothing nor would the idea of promotion interest anyone. Humans like rewards, which could be in the form of incentives, promotions, increments in salary, etc. Monetary reward is often a drive and this is often a reward for years of service, experience, and a need for growth. Equal pay only promotes laziness and unproductivity, so in my opinion, equal payment among workers with different cadres would be a disaster to any company. Those who have worked for years may feel cheated and thou become reluctant to put in their effort because they're not recognised especially with the fact that they'll be the ones to train the newly employed workers in the organization.
I have had the opportunity to work in two large organizations and I've seen how workers on low salary work hard to be recognized and those on higher salary work harder also to reach a certain position because they know, the higher the level, the higher the payment. This means; what drives them to work is the reward attached to each level, once it's removed or no assurance of reward is guaranteed above another, there would be little or no effort to give out one's best. In my opinion, equal payment in a workplace is unhealthy, and may not promote a competitive environment among workers. Years of service and experience should be appreciated more because they have more to offer.
You said it all.
The kind of laziness and unproductivity that will envelop such an organization will be second to none. No one would like to input more effort, afterall, it's same payment for all
That's true
As long as nothing changes, then people would feel it doesn't worth their time
I agree on the knowledge part when people have an equal pay. Many won't try to learn because there's no competition.
