Istanbul, Turkey: the incredible Archeological Museum

Hello people!

We continue traveling through Istanbul, a wonderful and special city that we discover every moment, and in every post. It is not easy to travel and get to know it, it is not easy to discover everything that the great Turkish city has to offer us, hoping that we will see and thus be surprised.

We have visited the Bosphorus, the Topkapi Palace, and enjoyed the views, we have wandered through the most populous and commercial area observing other great details, and we have also marveled at the grandeur of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. But there is more, there is always more to see, feel and perceive in the immense city of Istanbul.

But some of these things, part of its historical legacy is in the same place, in the Istanbul Archaeological Museum, which I recommend you go to if you still have time... where we can learn a lot about its past in the same space, and also about other elements of different cultures, which have finally come together here in a city that encompasses everything at all times.

We don't know where to turn, we are already assailed by thousands of curious objects recovered from other times and eras, as well as interesting historical information. Stone tablets, engravings, sculptures, peace treaties, fantastic black brick mosaics of animals, large statues and even sarcophagi. The cultural amalgam is impressive.

And there is more, more rooms, more objects to look at, more signs to read, and more photographs to take. We notice how cultures, empires and times are intertwined, and we go from stone altars decorated with magnificent reliefs to a sober sculpture of Ataturk, who founded the modern Republic of Turkey in 1923.

But then there are also many Babylonian (I think), Greek and, in particular, Roman Empire elements, among which the classic marble sculptures and columns stand out, as well as the impressive mosaics that adorn the floors of Roman villas.

And there are still more things to be found in this endless museum. Obviously, there are also elements related to the Ottoman period, and that era of powerful sultans who reigned, as well as many remains of precious architectural decorations, and other Christian religious images. Because it has been a place where different cultures and religions have come together, a true and real multicultural city.

To surprise us even more, we learn about coins and the wise past of other civilizations, and we find skeletons that have survived time, and again: more sculptures, more altars, more engravings, more reliefs, more sarcophagi, more columns, more mosaics, even more skeletons.

A museum that becomes a great time capsule, which transports us to other extraordinary times, and where, at every corner, in every room we visit, we always discover many more fascinating things. There is always more, much more, in the city where everything is more, more impressive and incredible, Istanbul and also one of its amazing museums.

And I also tell you again that there is still more to Istanbul, a couple more fantastic and wonderful places worth mentioning in other upcoming posts!

Did you hear about the farmer that fed his chickens avocados?
All you could hear around there was “guac, guac, guac, guac.”
