Aegina, Poros & Idra: visiting some real Greek Islands

Hello people!

We continue our journey, one of those that we remember and now share. And on our journey through Greece, we not only visit the capital Athens, but also a cruise route through the Aegean Sea, visiting some not-so-distant islands to get to know the Greek essence. Not like Ulysses, we don't get lost, we visit and come back, but while we do enjoy a lot this little Mediterranean paradise in blue and white, on three different islands but which unite that wonderful atmosphere in all of them.

But now we are going to visit three islands that are easily accessible from Athens by boat, these are Aegina, the largest, Poros, the smallest, and Idra, the furthest of the three, from there we will return...

Islands houses and Mediterranean white&blue life

What we like the most as soon as we set foot on the first of the islands and on the others, is that relaxed, warm and vibrant atmosphere. It seems that two colors flood everything, the sea, the sky and also the houses, all blue and white, like the country's own flag.

And we can walk through small whitewashed streets, decorated with flowers and intense vegetation while that beautiful blue stands out everywhere. These are charming towns, from another time, where we climb some stone stairs and end up from the top contemplating the views of part of the island, towards the sea... It seems like a painting, and we love it.

But there is also more than just houses, other buildings and architectures also add a different touch, small ancient churches, local restaurants and some other elements in the areas most frequented by visitors especially.

Walking along the highest part, we met a new friend, surprise.

Port & Coast

And then we approach the coastal part, which we reach on a large boat but not a typical giant cruise ship, and there we find many boats, many fishermen's boats and also other recreational boats, in an area where life is in the sea, and then when we get to land, with the crowd, the waiters of restaurants displaying the fresh seafood recently bought to those who fish and much more.

That atmosphere, real, local and fresh, of summer, of the Mediterranean, of grilled octopus, of the smell of the sea and evocative images that we fall in love with.

Especially when we arrive at Poros and as motor vehicles are prohibited, we are greeted by donkeys as a means of transport. It is true that it is what they used in the past to carry the goods up the mountain, but now, it makes me sad, I would not go up for the animals, but it is also true that it gives the moment an original and surprising touch that you do not expect while you discover what life was like there many, many years ago.

A journey at sea to the past and, at the same time, to a delicious gastronomy where the sea delights us.

Views from the Aegean Sea

And on a boat trip around the Greek islands, what most catches our attention are the wonderful views from the boat itself. From the sea we see the elevated silhouette of some islands full of buildings and some flags, church towers, lighthouses and also in Aegina an ancient defensive wall, and of course, all the ports where the boats park, in such busy summer times.

A relaxed life, a lively atmosphere, a wonderful environment, a serene sea, a fresh feeling and a magical moment, where time seems to stand still, while the sea breeze brings us beautiful views of unique, quiet, historic and fascinating places, which amaze us. And almost like Ulysses in his adventure through the Aegean Sea, these places enchant us and do not let us leave...

And if you want more of Greece, well, of its capital and the Acropolis area within it there is much to see and read in my previous posts:

Very beautiful coastlines and I really appreciate all the different boats. Of course you always find places of worship that are so elegant looking, jaha. Have to ask did you try some grilled Octopus? I've had octopus but in a much smaller size.

Yes love those coasts and the atmosphere there, many boats, local people, and tourists of course and good food like the octopus. And yes I ate, actually here in Spain we also eat octopus, very good and traditional dish in the northwest area (Galicia region) I also mentioned in some post about La Coruña city in Galicia, so used to eat octopus!

I loved how they have maintained the settlement with the pace of nature. The white blue house and pot designs absolutely blend with the nature.

The magnificent view of the ancient times The magnificent staircases and the views of the houses along with the church highlight the tradition of the ancient times. But such houses are not found in our country. The environment, the weather and the wonderful view of the sky are the perfect time to travel. I wish you success in your journey. But these buildings look very old

Thanks! I think that this ancient and nice environment is unique, special houses mixed well in the nature of the islands themselves. In summertime weather is good but too hot, so May for example could be better. Happy day!
