Hey folks hope you all are well

It's time to kick off this guest slot and have some fun with an account that's not mine 😂

I was going to kick it off with something about Art which is a topic I really enjoy. But the DUO team have allowed me to do a shameless plug for a little group I run for disadvantaged kids in my area of the United Kingdom.

So here I come with the shameless plug folks

The @hive-woodpeckers was formed from my love of woodworking and a chat that I had by random with someone who runs a small volunteer based service for kids in the North of the UK. This group runs on volunteers who do regular fundraising drives to help support and enable kids from disadvantaged families to have a better life.

This includes things like before and afterschool clubs, days out and helping them to learn new skills and socialise with others. The kids are great and they had a long term woodworking teacher who taught a group of them on a regular basis. Due to funding issues the group couldn't afford him anymore so they cut it from their services.
This is where I came in. I was asked to take over with a small group and see how things went. The catch was that I would receive no funding and it was self funded for now.

I jumped at the chance and so far it's been amazing but really damn expensive!

We have had a few issues here and there but overall it's been great and I am looking forward to next year and the amazing fun we will have.
Currently I have extended my contribution to the group until February 2025 as I have loved meeting the kids and families and they are coming out of their shells and engaging more which is brilliant.

Here's some planter's that we prepared and painted for one of our first projects

This was a nice day outside in way too much heat, but it was lovely and we both really enjoyed it.

Some Halloween Fun

This jolly little pumpkin was a fun build and the colours really popped. Plenty of prep work went into this for sure, with a great bit of nearly losing a hand!

Here's the end of this post and I would like to say a big thanks to you all for taking your time to have a look.
Also a big thanks to the DUO team for allowing me this chance.
Appreciate it

@hive-woodpeckers Very cool that you teach people this craft!
Out of curiosity - how old are these kids / what is a good age to get started?

Might be interesting to explore something like this with my youngest.

Hi thanks for the kind words.
Well it started with my Daughter who is 7 years old.
My students are 7 and 13/14 years old. I actually got his age wrong in a discussion with someone because I'm a terrible person ahahha
