Scrotal pain (6): Trauma to the scrotum

The history is straight forward.
It can be from contact sport, road traffic accident or fall.
Whatever the cause, the injury can either be blunt injury or piercing injury.
The organ/ tissue involved include the scrotal skin, the testis , the appendages, the cord.
The patient can have abrasion or skin bruises,
Scrotal haematoma,
Testicular swelling/ haematoma.
NB: haemtoma is blood accumulation.

The outcome depend on the extent of the injury and organ involved, the treatment received, background medical problem.

The possible outcomes include

  1. Self resolution
  2. Gangrene of tissues ( skin etc)
  3. Haematoma collection
  4. Abscess collection ( pus formation)

Trauma to scrotum should be well attended to.
