Market Friday's Countdown to Christmas! Fifty One Days and Counting!

(Edited)

Christmas is coming! I know, I cannot believe it either, but, all the signs are in the air. The Rockettes will be back!! The Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes is back at Radio City Music Hall for the 2022 Extravaganza! The performances will run from November 18- Jan. 2, 2023. The New York City Ballet will be performing George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, from November 23, 2022, through December 31, 2022. Just so you know, nobody dances for no good reason! Good reasons! There’s dedication, discipline, exercise, showmanship, fun-fun-fun, and my favorite reason of all, the pure joy of it. Hallmark has their own countdown to Christmas with new movies, for all you Hallmark-y people! Yes! Christmas is definitely coming! What is it that you are most looking forward to? I will say up front that family, getting all together. It just doesn't get any better than that.

christmas balls.jpg

Let's just say that you heard it here on #MarketFriday first! Christmas is always such a special time of year, and getting ready for it is a huge part of that. It connects us to those around us as well as our loved ones. I think we can use that this year. It has been so long in coming. The prediction is that decorating will be huge this year and I expect a lot more people to put decorations up outside as well as make their own special pieces to adorn the table or mantle.

It is never too soon to express, to all of you, may what you seek to come forth this coming year, and may the joy of the moment also linger on in your life.

I was just thinking about how I get to take all the fun things out. This is one of those things I love and cherish, especially the memories it evokes. I got it at the Christkindlmarket in Nuremberg, all those years ago. And it is as perfect as the day I bought it. I think they were called the German Candle Pyramid or in German: Weihnachtspyramide. Anyway... I put it together every year, to relive the time when we lived in a little village in Germany, enjoying the beauty and warmth of Christmas there. People and places. Christmas has a way of touching on those beautiful moments.

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on Hive.

Step back from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life and reflect on the year that is passing us by. We can even add the year we missed. It is the season of tidings of comfort and joy - we are supposed to look for the good in everyone. So, be kind and give it freely. If you don't mind, I would like to start a little early this year.

This was a prize when I found it years ago. I just love it! I have never found another one again, but, then again, I haven't looked online. I found this in a small shop, that catered to Christmas around the world.

No Christmas is complete without a wreath. It’s no secret around the familial circle that I love the charm of seasonal wreaths. Maybe it is the surreptitious meaning. Probably not. In my mind, it’s that circular shape that represents eternity, for it has no beginning and no end. The unending circle of life, if you will. There is a certain cozy feeling wrapped up in all that evergreen. It's simple and it makes everything simply delightful. Whether you put yours on the front door or inside the house, a wreath is a beautiful way to get you feeling festive. Personally, I do both. One can never have too many wreaths. I put one on all the inside doors of my house, including the bedroom doors. What an easy way to make an instant holiday!

Sometimes, you don't really have to spend money and #MarketFriday is good with that! We are all about savings! I have had to create my own magic. Decorating the tree is seen as remembering the past Christmases. Baking cookies is something I do so that I can give them and make them with my bigger kids and give them to my friends and neighbors and sometimes assisted living/retirement homes. I do Christmas caroling and go out of my way to get my friends together for some activities; I try not to get caught up in the whole agenda of buying and buying.

christmas two trees.jpg

Do something, somewhere, and make that magic. I know you can. Keep delegating those Christmas orchestrations to those around you. Mild depression is a huge problem with people at this time of year. Be cognizant and be kind. If the timing is right, invite someone who will be alone. Who really wants to be alone at Christmas, wallowing in those Childhood memories?

Rules of the Road

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
    Take pictures! Be creative!

  3. Post the picture(s) Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated)
    5. Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it
  5. Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

Heart Vine (L).png

Four or five years ago, I watched a movie about Mother Theresa, and I was struck by the amount of love that one small woman was able to spread across the world. Not only did she alter the lives of everyone she touched; but, each of them went on to do beautiful things. Love is the power that drives that beauty.

christmas tree.jpg

Love is all around, especially leading up to the Christmas holidays. The media focuses on all the bad; however, there is so much good and beautiful in the world! You just have to train yourself to look for it! Look at any children's performance. Orchestra, dance, chorus, band... look at all the family members crammed in to witness a brief few moments of their child's accomplishment! If that ain't love...Well, I don't know what is!

Heart On A Course L.png

Please leave the link to your post here so it can easily be found by others. It helps you and me to have them in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you so much for joining us!! ❤

christmas pinecone.jpg

You know, it is barely past Halloween and here I am talking about the true meaning of Thanksgiving in my heart and Christmas. That is okay to start early. For me, it's a good time to think about my spiritual, community, and humanist values. How to make this time a meaningful and connecting event. There are people in the community that seem to be left out of it because of their family situation. They may have an illness, be a primary caregiver, or they may be without proper means of transportation. Don’t forget to include these people in your fun. I know you, my friends. Always doing for others. Your kindness doesn't cost you anything more than time and possibly a little extra work, but the value far exceeds what you will ever put into it. Only 51 more days till Christmas!

I do so love the Christmas season. It seems a little bit shinier; a little bit brighter than the rest of the year. The spirit of Christmas prompts people to do caring things for others. It’s that season of loving and giving – not just to those we love, our families and friends, but people seem to reach out to see what they can find. Stretch your heart, to those who see nothing to rejoice in, or to those we know are in desperate circumstances. Reach out and touch someone.

If you look at the poinsettia up close and personal, you see a radiant star, the color of gold, shining from the center. As always, there must be flowers to color my world. #alwaysaflower

12314535_10153783106048832_3513361232149893781_o.jpg

I love all that glitters, I love all the inset gold in these ornaments. It’s just not Christmastime without the glitter. Once you release the urge to use sparkle, it has permission to follow you far and wide. I am just waiting to be in the midst of a celebration, glittery charm included. Very soon, I will be unaware of the hint of glitter in my hair, my clothes, or even on my face somewhere, the sun and shine telling the tale. Oh, glitter me Christmas!

338938_10150486017923832_1935759453_o.jpg

Christmas eve means so many things it's hard to define. Phases of emotion correspond with my age. The unsurpassed anticipation as a child... only to be outdone when it was my turn to be the giver to my children. But it's not about the gifts, is it? It's about family and friends, caring and sharing, and most of all, it's about love. ❤️

And just like that, this post is done. I hope you had a good time and learned a little something new. As always, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit, and just remember, #MarketFriday loves you! Thank you for supporting the challenge! Have a fabulous day! Cheers!!

Would it be out of place if I just said, "Merry Christmas, almost." How could I deny any of you hearing those words tonight? Would it even be fair? I thought not.

Ye! The Christmas season is almost here. I didn't have fun last year because I was heavy and battling with premature delivery. But this year, I am so eating everything I see and dancing with my heels.

Let me go and get ready for my groove this season. Your pictures are so lovely. I have so many things to purchase this Christmas season plus it is my baby's first Christmas. I need to make it memorable too.

The baby is little. Although you want to purchase so much, I would keep it simple so that you can enjoy the baby with the festive decorations. They like lights and I would keep it light and purchase more each year- each year they have something new.

This is your year! Have fun with it!

It is the spirit of Christmas that I really look forward to, although I do decorate early. We have a tree-lighting ceremony on Thanksgiving weekend. Everyone is at the house, my siblings come for the holidays and we are all together, so we have always decorated on the day after Thanksgiving and Saturday we light the outdoor lights and our trees.

I love that they all help us do it! Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words. I hope you have a great weekend!

Time waits for nobody!

This reminds me of my father. He was one of the most even-tempered people I have ever known. He always seemed to be calm and in control. He was firm and disciplined, yet always kind and friendly.

I remember one of the most valuable lessons he ever taught me...

He said "as long as you can stay ahead of time, you will be in control and you can remain calm. But when time gets ahead of you, you have a problem. That's when things get out of control and chaos sets in..."

He taught me the importance of planning. It comes down to the well-known "plan your work and then work your plan" idea. But it's taking it one step further...

It's about taking ownership...taking responsibility. Planning your work/activities will allow you to take control and remain calm. But it will also allow you to see in advance when you are not going to make it and to take the appropriate action or at least notify other people involved about the situation. It's all about being proactive instead of reactive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression this is how you also go through life...?

...although truth be told, I celebrate Christmas in my heart all year long. And why not? Glitter me happy.

I love what you are saying here. It is so true. Christmas is physically celebrated in the world once a year, but it could (should?) be "a state of mind", where we are celebrating this great event all year long!

I love reading your posts too. You clearly have a busy schedule and I take my hat off to you for running this project and taking the time to put in all the effort that you do to make this project what it is. Thank you for doing so👍!

Thank you for the kind words and be safe while you are traveling.

The Nutcracker is one of the few Christmas albums that I can listen through the whole thing and it doesn't bug me too much. I have a couple of Christmas albums that are like that, but the Nutcracker is just a classic. I's hard to believe we are already on the cusp of the Holiday season. The time is passing much too quickly as I get older.

Here is my #marketfriday post from yesterday:

I love the Nutcracker and watch it every year. I have to admit, there are so many renditions of the same 8 Christmas songs, it is nauseating - and I Love Christmas!

Thank you!! You remembered. I have to tell you, I am impressed! At first, I saw your name and said, wow! Dude!! Another Market post?

I totally agree on the Christmas song thing. Sometimes the classics are the best. No need to change them. I tend to like newer Christmas songs more than remakes of standards.

Awww, I almost forget about the countdown. But before, I am really very excited for Christmas. I think this will be the saddest Christmas ever for it is the first time that I cannot be with my sister physically. By the way, I really love the Christmas decors my friend, Denise.

I so love the blending of Christmas colors.
Perhaps on my side I had it with a blend of silver, white, and gold, also a bit of other colors like red, green, and blue. I wish I was as excited as you for the Christmas.

Here is my post for this week’s #MarketFriday :

Do you know I actually thought of you and your sister when I was putting this together? There are so many people here on the platform that their life has changed this year, or last... myself included, and there will be a hole in the holiday.

I can say that although it will be one of the saddest, you hold on tight to the rest of your family and love them a little bit more this year. They are here and I am sure you are all hurting this year. Do it together for your sister.

My excitement is inbred. That is my true nature, all year round. I love the spirit of Christmas and let it guide me all year. My brother is not with us this year, he was taken a little before your sister, so yes. it is tragic.

I will enjoy the colors of Christmas and continue the countdown! My thoughts and prayer go out to you. xoox

Awww, I !LUV you so much dear friend, Denise. Thank you for remembering me and my sister in your thoughts. I remember back then we had a convo about the time when I had to put up the Christmas tree at home because it is a part of our bonding, starting the first day or first week of September, she usually put up and light the Christmas tree at home. Teary eyed here and I felt sad about a tragic thing that happened to your brother.

I so feel you. Really grateful of your motivation and those words from you are really source of enlightenment. You know, I had dreamt of her last night, she was hugging on me, but after a moment she was gone. I was really crying when I woke up earlier.

Honestly, until now, I am still feeling a deep pain, but I am motivating myself that in time, I would totally accept a painful reality. I must say, this is really one of the hardest things in life. I firmly believe only time will heal but still I am looking at the brighter side of life.

Sometimes, when I am really sad, I often write my emotions. Thank you so much, Denise for your time and attention. Know that you made my day with all your inspiring words. I just hope that I could do it all with a smile.

Have a great day my friend, @dswigle and take care always.

I wish you well and just like you, it is very hard. I have a family and need to make sure I give them proper attention, despite all of the other things. It will not bring him back. I think of him, take the time to be with his family that is left behind.

Keeping busy.Idle hands give me too much time to think. :)

It never ceases to amaze me how early people start preparing for Christmas in your country! Oh, I remember that Star of David Christmas ball of yours. I have never seen anything like it here in Israel. but maybe I didn't look carefully. you are absolutely right: you need to learn to see the beautiful around yourself! link to my post: https://ecency.com/hive-196308/@tali72/inexpensive-store-in-a-prestigious

Actually, we really don't prepare this early. We won't put anything up until after Thanksgiving, which is November 24 this year. The Philipines wins the prize for that one. They start decorating and celebrating the coming of Christmas in SEPTEMBER! They celebrate during the er months. September, October, November, and December! No kidding!

I love my Star of David Christmas ornament. I am so afraid I will break it one day. I have never seen one again since I got that years ago. The only way to survive in the world we have today is to do exactly that. Learn to see the beauty in the little things, or you will miss out on life. Thank you for reading and for dropping your link!

Isn't that amazing? There were pretty strict rules between most of the Jewish people when I was growing up, which were respected by most people on both sides. Now, it is all about blending into the world. I guess it depends on where you stand religiously.

Religion was much more regarded growing up. I can say that it gave me comfort as a child, even to this day.

I love Christmas for all the right reasons. I separate the religious aspect of it, as it should have been from the very beginning. It has been a fight since the beginning of time... although when I was a child, it was the religious reason first, then Christmas.

Okay, enough serious stuff. :)

Thanks so much for taking the time and dropping the link! I forgot to say that I also have unwrapped gifts with no tags on them AND given the wrong gifts out, but, not quite as good as yours.

Excuse my comment on your post that says to drop the link. I should have known once you escaped, you would find your way here! @ellenripley Thank you!

You made my day Denise 😊🥰😎
Countdown to Christmas… yay… it started. It is one of my favourite holidays. I always make it cosy and dress up the house, trees, windows and everything that can be decorated hahaha 🤣

Love it. You are early but I soooo don’t mind 😊😎 love seeing pretty pictures from it.
And you did capture some pretty photographs.

Aawww so cool to see the German wooden candle pyramid, it sure brings back some memories.
Some of my family and mother had them too.

Thank you so much for sharing this joy and happiness…
Can’t wait to bake and cook yummy things for Christmas 🎄

Yes, you can say it.
Merry Christmas… almost 😉🎄

My MarketFriday post… takes you to Vermont today: “Market Friday” ~ “Southern Vermont Arts Center - Sculpture Gardens” Manchester VT, my US adventures 😎 🇺🇸

Safe travels and have a wonderful day @dswigle 😊👋🏻

I live with Christmas in my heart, all year long. Why wait for December? I love the Pyramid. I bought it n the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt when I lived in Europe. It was so bitterly cold that day, I will never forget it! OMG! I kept drinking the mulled wine, hoping to get warmer, but only got - well, you guessed. Yikes.

The season of joy is ours! :) Thank you for supporting #MarketFriday!

Yes, I think I do too. Love Christmas and all what is related to it. Also to joy and the helping others and make somebody smile. Let’s spread it throughout the entire year 😊😁🤩💃🏻

I visited some Christmas markets in Germany. And all those cute little stalls. And than the mulled wine, Gluhwine… mmmm 😋 yep loved it.
I make it at home every year when it gets colder. It doesn’t have to be Christmas for that hehehe 🤭
Love the spices in the wine.

You are so welcome Denise, always 👋🏻😊
Have a wonderful evening and a great Sunday!

Hmmm...the home-baked cookies to be given to kids, friends, neighbors, and retirement homes must be some kind of special and sweet present anyone can ever receive. That was so sweet and generous of you, the true essence of reaching out and touching someone's life.

Do something, somewhere, and make that magic.

Yes, we may not be able to change the world but who knows?! That little act of kindness and a simple smile can change someone else's life. Thank you for reminding us this @dswigle. You have a very beautiful soul. 🥰

I keep thinking and wondering why you chose #marketfriday. I mean, something material, when you are made for other feelings, you can easily be the ambassador of Christmas, love, kindness, and flowers (ah, here you are involved).

I've never met anyone so attached to the celebration of Christmas. I'm thinking it must have something to do with your childhood, something from there stuck with you forever. Very nice and useful! It ensures a child's soul forever.
Thank you for reminding us so beautifully of Christmas, what it means and what is good to do. Many of us have forgotten.

The sea is my Christmas, metaphorically speaking... I wrote about the sea this week too.

That is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about me, Dan! @bluemoon

To be honest, marketing is in everyone's life, but frequently there is no joy in the task. It is a need rather than a joy. If you can use this to make something worthwhile, perhaps make a little money or get to know others in some way, gain a little understanding of other cultures... now it becomes something else.

Or something like that. :)

You have me there. I love Christmas and it isn't even about presents. I am sure you already know that. My childhood was wonderful, especially at that time of year. The house always smelled of something delicious, the aroma would waft down the hallways, finding its way to us, no matter which corner of the house we were in.

People were nicer, there was singing everywhere you went and people tend to try to help the needy at that time of year. There is never a bad time to help the needy. Because, like Christmas, those feelings should reside in your heart. ❤️

The sea is your Christmas and in many ways, it is mine too. It has always been my place of peace, and probably always will be.

Thanks so much for dropping your link and reading the post, as always! :)

I'm glad, @dswigle, that I said something true about you, as I perceive you from what I see, from what you discuss with other colleagues and me, and from the care you have for others!

Yes, childhood influences so much of our later life. It's obvious that you have only wonderful memories of your childhood Christmas. Unfortunately, Christmas now is far too commercial, when I was a kid I didn't notice that (of course, I didn't have the ability to understand it either).

Wishing you a more than a pleasant new week!

Hello, dear Denise! After reading this, I think I've got the Christmas bug! It is always a special time, but this year I will also be counting the days until my son comes home for a few days.
You've awakened my Christmas spirit so much with this lovely post that I'm going to start getting out the Christmas decorations and of course binge on Hallmark Christmas movies even if my husband rolls his eyes, hehe.

Haha!!! I started watching the Hallmark Christmas movies in JULY! They start up with the Christmas in July theme!

I think of you all the time with your son here. I haven't said anything because I didn't want to make you sad. I hope he is doing well and I know how exciting it will be to have him home for a few days. I hope he is going home with a classmate for Thanksgiving, that is normal to do on students who live far away. I am sure you have your own countdown and list of things you want to cook for him! :)

I pulled my Christmas out and am deciding what I want to do this year. I have a son coming home too!!! So, it is very exciting!

Thank you for reading and I am glad you enjoyed it. I do love Christmas, but, not the over-the-top presents and such, but the joy of the season, the love, the kindness, the heartfelt thought.

Le sigh.

July!!! LOL

I miss my son a lot, but I'm happy as he is happy and is doing what he wanted. He loves college. For Thanksgiving, some friends from his school who went to live in Miami a couple of years ago invited him to go and spend it there. But a couple of days ago, he told me that he prefers not to go because many international friends will stay in college and they are making plans to get to know the city that they have not had time to visit because of studying so much.

I am counting the days until he comes, and I think with all the cooking I want to do I will have to start a week earlier hehe.

I'm glad your son will be home for Christmas, we will be busy and happy mothers this Christmas:)

I don't like at all the whole commercial Christmas thing and I've become very Grinch but I love the traditions and the family get-togethers. And being able to bring a smile to the faces of those who have so much less than we do.

Exactly!!!! Christmas should be in your heart all year round, not just for one day or a season. Why are people nice at Christmas and not during the year?

I love that my family is close all year, getting together for Christmas with all of the aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents is something that is special. Did I grow up surrounded by money? If we had it or not, I never knew, it wasn't talked about, we had love and respect and we knew about that. We had what we needed and the rest did not matter.

I am glad he is not going to Miami. Local would be fine, but, he will have a wonderful time! A great place to explore!!

Goodness and kindness should have no season. My family is also very close and now it is a bit more difficult to have big gatherings since many cousins left the country due to the crisis. But those of us who are here, try to get together whenever we can.

I am also glad that he will stay in Chicago this time, he will surely have a good time.

Can you feel it too? I am so glad it is not only me! The weather is still warm here in Washington, DC... unseasonably so. It is warm, but not humid, so I can tell that the cooler temps will be coming soonish. My family gets together also. It is something we all love and look forward to. It is the most important thing, I have to agree with you.

Hello Denise and thank you for this article which nicely anticipates the good times to come !

I love the decorations you share with us and I also have a special attachment to the wreath, the idea of the cycle that keeps on going :)

I'm nowhere near that level of preparation, but I did get my train tickets to visit my family, all before they were so expensive ^^

Thanks again and I wish you a great weekend !

It is the season of joy. I love it. That is ironic about the wreath, Exactly why I like it. It goes round and round, never really ending, just circles again.

I am overorganized because life is so busy right now, but, I think buying the train tickets already is on top of it. Yay!! Before they go up! I hope you have been having a good weekend, it is mild like the beginning of summer. We have not had any cool weather yet, We are behind schedule.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.

What a lovely post, @dswigle! I guess it's not too early to enjoy the coming holidays! I love that you embrace it the moment Halloween has left the building. And you're so right that it is a wonderful time to enjoy light and love and happiness and look for all the good. It's a beautiful season. My family loves Thanksgiving, probably as much as Christmas! I am always a little resistant to the idea of jumping right in when I'm still enjoying the fluttering down of fall leaves, but you've inspired me! I'm jumping in!

Yes well the family time and the getting together are all fine and well, but what I look forward most is my presents from me to me! Oh yes I always know right what to get and I never have to return a thing coz it is exactly what I was looking for! How cool is that?!? This year I figure Santa might bring me some new guitar strings, a guitar strap, some extra picks. I really could use oh maybe 4 or 5 more guitar stands...😁 oh I just cannot wait. It really really is the best time of the year!

Thank you for your words. In this post, I give the guidelines for the challenge. Any Market post can be used, although mine is just about Christmas this week. That is why you see Christmas.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.
