Market Friday Sprouts - How about You?

avatar

Welcome to Sprouts, my local healthy grocery store, even labeling themselves as a Farmers Market in their signage. Inspired by farmers' markets, they try to emulate the fresh goodness and healthy lifestyle that they promote. They have become synonymous with organic groceries,

20230518_140357.jpg

Sprouts is located at 494 Elden St Ste 110, Herndon, Virginia 20170. This is inside Herndon Centre.

Now more than ever, people are taking advantage of the different ways of being serviced: There is, of course, in-store shopping, then there is no-contact, curbside pickup·and they also offer delivery.

Interested in the delivery and what they charge for it? The delivery fee is free for your very first order, but, it must be over $35.00. Their regular charge is $3.99 for orders over $35 and $7.99 for orders under $35, That sounds a little backward, doesn't it? You get more for less. A very nice marketing tool.

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!) Join me as we share our markets across the globe. I always look forward to seeing what you send me! It is amazing to see the different markets and cultures of our friends here on Hive.

I have come to appreciate a store like Sprouts. I compare it to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, to be honest. All of them have an abundance of products with minimal processing and the ingredients are pure, without artificial flavors. What more could you ask for? Have I ever bought anything with artificial ingredients? Well, yes! But, to be honest, if I don't have to, I would rather not, It really is the same thing if you grow it yourself or go to a traditional market, Everything is straight out of the garden, yes?

20230518_140247.jpg

Of course, I have seen this before, but, I love it every time I see it. Barrels of nuts, raisins, and other bits to make your own snacks or trail mix. I like the fact that if I want to put all pecans or almonds, I can. You pick the number of ingredients and which ones you want. I like mine heavy in dried fruit and nuts, depending on what they have for a dash of candy. Maybe M&M's candy. You know, the chocolate, but with the candy shell so it doesn't melt easily.

20230518_140206.jpg

So, yes! Let's make some of our own trail mixes. Do you hike or walk distances? Do you like trail mix or something like it to snack on for a little extra energy? If you do, what do you like in your bag of tricks, the thing you snack on? If you don't make/buy trail mix, what would you put in yours if you were to make one? Each of those bins has different ingredients and it is heavenly to be able to scoop all I want of one thing if that is what I am feeling like today.

The ingredients in trail mixes vary in price, normally from $5.99 a pound to $11.49 a pound for the ones that are prepackaged. So, sometimes, making your own is cheaper and you get the ingredients that you want.

20230518_135924.jpg

TEA!! A whole aisle of it! Who could resist? I thought I understood tea until someone asked me to describe the tea I was drinking. The real tea is much more complicated than I originally thought. I want some oolong tea, but, there is talk of notes in my tea and using the right water. What do you know about tea? Are you an aficionado? I run from the tea aisles determined to read up on my teas.

20230518_135819.jpg

Fruit. Nutritious and delicious. How can anyone argue with that? Many different fruits are offered, unusual ones for us, jackfruit, dragonfruit, and the usual apples, oranges, and strawberries. There is no shortage of fruit and they are usually a little bit better priced than most stores.

20230518_135727.jpg

Squash is king here, they are lined all up, waiting to be bought. I am a fan of squash of all kinds, roasted, grilled, steamed, and baked. There probably isn't a way that you can make it that I don't love. Is squash one of your go-to vegetables? If it is, what do you do with it? How about your favorite vegetable?

20230518_135716.jpg

Their coupons on their phone app can be combined with manufacturers' coupons, which is called stacking coupons, not allowed by most stores. However, Sprouts has a different policy and the coupon is allowed.

20230518_135732.jpg

If you have to make a quick meal and you are at the grocery store with a few options there, what will you make for your family, or even yourself? I always wonder what trick is up your sleeve! :) Tell me, tell me, tell me do.

20230518_135318.jpg

The meat I purchased is organic, but I am not sure all of it is. I am not sure what percentage is and isn't, but, I read the labels. I hate to get home and be surprised.

20230518_135323.jpg

The store is clean and organized. There is plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, nuts, and everything in between. Am I happy with Sprouts? Yes. Is it perfect? No, but, it comes pretty close. I can see there are a few infractions in things, but, there is much forgiveness in me as I wait for them to get organized for a few weeks.

20230518_135303.jpg

What kind of store is Sprouts?
Sprouts Farmers Market is a supermarket chain, headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona that focuses mostly on natural and organic foods at lower prices than some of its competitors. They do also sell vitamins, and supplements, beer & wine, and a few products that have artificial ingredients. source

This was what an employee of another organic store wrote. I am sure there is truth in it, but, I will be giving them a chance to win me over. Wouldn't you? I just have to read levels and if I see something, I can point it out to them. I do eat some things that are not organic, to be honest.

20230518_135258.jpg

Kindly leave your cart there and exit the store. Y'all come back again, you hear? Thanks for coming along, all the while, singing your song. I hope you had a good time and next week I promise to be a little more about the experience.
:)

  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess on some
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

Well usual chicken or minced meat is involved both are easy to use in many meals , we always stock up Glutten free pasta for the wife and we hals have lot's of mixes of spices from so often we get pre cut vegetables combine it white rice or past chicken or minced meat and then pick one of the flavoured spices we have from this : https://www.euroma.nl/original-spices/ ( sorry it's in Dutch )

Hehe!~ Maybe a little, yes? :)

Those are great quick fixes for a meal! I really liked the spices that were offered up by Euroma. It is great to have a few go-to meals, especially when having a day on the run.

Sorry, it's in Dutch

No problem, I can read most of it and what I can, I know a great translator!

Thanks so much for your words!~ Have a great weekend!

Oh Denise your Sprouts look fantastic! I am quite envious. The delivery charges are similar to here, although we can choose our hourly slot price and that also varies in price.

Teas well now that depends on your water. Take Soft and Hard water for example, in Scotland we have soft water and that's one of the reasons why whiskey is so good. There are also blends of tea which are only suitable for the type of water. In our house it is Scottish Blend that we use for our breakfast type of tea. Then we have various infusions teas, I love raspberries so my favourite is echinacea and raspberry!

avatar

I love Sprouts and stores like it. The delivery charge is much the same at other stores too, it must be a universal curse,

I forgot about the difference the water makes. I have been drinking the same water for so long, I forget there are these differences when I move, Ha! I don't have a reason to drink whiskey unless I move to Scotland.

I usually drink Eglish Breakfast Tea or another British one, no likely to be finding me drinking the infusions.

We just made some Monty Chrisco Sandwiches tonight... Oh, I am feeling so spoiled now! Oh, my point was I used raspberry jam we had made from our betties last year!

Score! Thanks for leaving your words!

Another well presented market to visit in your neck of the woods, we have similar, I still support my small friendly corner store.

We have to eat, buying is costly, finding fresh at a good price always an evil necessity.

We are more than fortunate for having this available to us. It pains me to see it not available or appreciated in this world today. n

I support my local markets, but, that is one of my local, we have very few small, independently-owned places - so I go with what works when not around them.

Thank you for checking me out!

Over time small shops are lost, open markets available on particular sites over weekends, most casual small Mom & Pop stands set up over weekends at local nursery.

Happy weekend Denise 🤗

Trader Joe's is one of our favorites. We don't have one near us, but we stop every time we are in Ohio. It's always so packed though! I haven't been in a Whole Foods for a long time. There used to be a chain down in Ohio called the Anderson's that had an amazing meat counter, but they shut down. This looks like a really cool place.

We have a lot of our good favorite stores fold/downsized during COVID. Many people don't even do their own shopping anymore. They have gotten accustomed to having the groceries delivered or doing a pick-up themselves. I find it strange not going shopping but, I am all for trying to normalize our world, as much as we can.

I guess it can be easier and lessen your workload, so for that, I guess it is better... ''It is a pretty cool place, but, nothing like the place you showed off!!! Holy Moly!! I want one of those stores!

It's pretty rare that my wife and I go grocery shopping since covid. We find it much easier and cost effective to have our stuff delivered. We do still make regular Costco runs though.

Exactly that. You both work and have busy lives, plus it works for you. As it should be. I buy so much produce, I want to pick my own. It is cost-effective in terms of time spent getting there and back... I get it.

Living overseas for a few months taught me the importance in having access to the food that we like can make in our lives. I've always wanted to live in the UK (England, since they own all of that over there) :), but not having ready access to pepperoni pizza in Germany, informed for me that whereever I go, I've got to be able to get my favorites, even if it's just through Amazon.

They better have Frosted Mini Wheats in the UK! lol!

Ha! I lived overseas for years and I actually used that time to expand my palet. :) I understand being without pepperoni pizza and the angst that carries, but, I learned to make my own.

Now I still make my own. Frosted mini wheat? The original company that made shredded wheat opened a factory in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, in 1926 at which time Welgar was its registered trademark, which became part of Nabisco in 1928. I think you will have no problem!

Looks such a great place, I used to avoid "healthy Food" when I was younger, but now I am more selective and check out the ingredients and buy more natural and fresh whenever I can, dang yet again getting somewhat sensible with age LOL

Thats a point, most of the food I ate growing up was healthy, dad was an avid gardener and most of our veges were home grown, and for the most part, we did have fish and chips on friday

0

0.000
avatar

Yes! Fish on Friday was a must. I miss those days when the rules were simple and everyone followed them, we didn't try to buck every single thing that made out life what it was.

And I think life was good, for the most part.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Well maybe even back then I bucked the rules, I never liked fish back then, I used to get a hot dog, well not the Hot dogs you have here, it was basically a a saveloy coated in batter and deep friend, ohh and a pineapple fritter as well as the fries or chips as we called them

hmm I am guessing you have heard of saveloys, its a seasoned type of sausage normally with a bright pinky red casing or skin

0
0
0.000
avatar

Yes, they remind me of a seasoned hot dog, although I know they are really sausage. That is the closest comparison and yes, sometimes battered and fried. My kids say they are fancy corn dogs.

But, they are that pink color that belongs only to them.

Oh, pineapple fritter?! Now that might be tasty!! What was I thinking? Of course, you bucked the rules, even back then. My dad took us fishing, so it sort of made it obligatory that you would want to eat your catch. LOL

0

avatar

I must admit after growing up with deep fried saveloys in a nice batter, I just cant stand corndogs they batter is too think for me

as my late MUm said to Lulu once JJ was always different lOL

my Dad I don't think was into fishing, gardening was his thing, and playing billiards at the RSA

Having all of this in one place is really huge.
Well I will head straight to make fruits and vegetable salad for my family if I happen to come here.
We eat alot of grains here but having an opportunity to be around so much fresh vegetable and grain here will make me abandon every cereal for this.

I think we should truly appreciate organic stores like this for putting together most of the items we need in one place.

Thank you for visiting my herb blog here.

I agree with you and I truly appreciate having this be a very common thing here. I have grains and cereals, rice, and the like as staple food that is used in moderation.

Our everyday food is fruits and vegetables. It is better for me and my body reacts to this as I need to feed it as best I can.

The fact that they put it all together is a huge bonus for me.'

I appreciate you taking the time to put together a post that supports the challenge. Your post was definitely interesting and I am glad I got to find it!

Don't run from the tea aisle! I'll meet you there. By the looks of it those are mostly herbal. What a fabulous variety. I love herbal. Although I spend more time drinking freshly ground coffee. I'm a bit of a coffee snob.

What a lovely shopping experience. I love how they have labelled the fresh greens. As for that name. Sprouts is such an original and catchy name - complete with the sprout logo. Delightful.

Definitely my kind of shopping destination. It's wonderful that there are places like this. Sadly for us there aren't. Which is more of a problem being the farmers and not the consumers. Our wonderful organic everything is totally unappreciated and undervalued here.

Have a wonderful weekend Denise! Hope it's a blissful summer there.

Aaaaaaaaaaannnnd....here's an edit. After I made the comment about being a coffee snob I realized I had photos. And a #marketfriday post! So here it is.

Hehe! I'll meet you there! They are mostly herbal which is exactly what both my girls drink my son does not drink tea! How can that be? He doesn't drink coffee either. He cannot be mine! I am definitely a coffee snob. :) I am okay with that.

It actually is quite lovely and very much appreciated. At this time of year, many of the Farmer Markets that are temporary for the season pop up all over the place. It is glorious and we get to enjoy endless goodness for the season! I am so jealous of your everything organic all of the time, but, not the fact that you are underappreciated and undervalued there.

It is a big deal here, more and more normal and expected, but, honestly appreciated.

Oh!!! A post! Thank you, lovely. I hope you have a great weekend. I am off to the lavender fields again tomorrow! ❤️

Thanks so much, Tracey! #MarketFriday loves you!

This goes to show that there are enough local farmers to work with so that most people can have access to fresh produce. Then there are some manufacturers that make products from natural and organic ingredients!

Where I live, organic and local produce are abundant! Just a few years ago, that wasn't the case, even in a farming town like Woodland.

Woodland and the immediate surrounding area's economy has largely been based on agriculture. To this day, Yolo County is one of the largest crop producers in the state.

I buy mostly organic and local produce, even meat and poultry.

Happy Friday @dswigle .. This is a one stop shop place..i suddenly thought about how to describe the tea I am drinking too.. Maybe you can describe the flavor, texture, and scent.. Some are actually smooth like camomile....the scent of Chinese tea often strong, especially the ones with darker color.. I like the lighter ones..

Anyway, here is my entry for this week Market Friday..

I can say this is the shop I would also love to visit! Though I am curious, is prices here quite expensive compare in other markets?

I love idea of mixing based on my liking but in all sections you share? Those green veggies I like the most!

That is one of the reasons it is a good choice for many people. It is organic and still, the prices are the same or lower than the other markets. There are some items, mostly high-end meat that will be more, but, it is also expensive at other markets as well.

The bulk items, like nuts and grains, olives and many other products are mix your own. It is clearly marked and empty container so that you can fill them how you like. The green veggies are pretty good!

It is trying hard and it is difficult to meet everyone's needs. But, suggestions are welcome and they seem to be trying hard.

It is a nice store and it is pretty well organized. Also, their prices are not bad at all, in fact, they are on the cheaper side of many discount stores!

Sprouts would definitely see me walking those aisles as I'm nutty about nuts, and love trying different teas, that's a ton to choose from!

It sounds like you had a great experience at Sprouts. I've heard good things about that store too. It's always nice to find a place where you can buy healthy, fresh groceries. I'm glad you mentioned the bulk bins and produce section. Those are my favorite parts of the store too!

I'm also a fan of trail mix, and I love that Sprouts lets you customize your own mix. I usually add almonds, cashews, dried cranberries, and M&Ms. It's the perfect snack for a hike or a long day at work.

Thanks again for sharing your experience with Sprouts. It sounds like a great store!

I did like the store and I have heard good things about it too! I love that I could find everything there, so I was pleased about that. The bulk bins are great and being able to customize them is a real crowd-pleaser at home. :)

Yes! I love to mix it up too!

Once again a wonderful place to shop but uuuhhh, the apples are expensive? Seems they dont grow in your region? Or is this more than 1 kilo?

I need to go look at the picture. Apples are not really expensive, although they are not in season here, so they might have come from across the nation. They do grow in our region, but, the harvest is at the end of the summer.

I will go back and look.

Hello Ma'am @dswigle Sprouts is a very convenient market place, the organic products are truly healthy. There are so much to choose from there. Thank you for sharing that I can see places like that even in photos. The flower photo is so pretty.

This is my post for this week. Thank you and I hope you like it.

Charging more for delivery on a smaller order makes sense! It motivates the customer to rather increase the order to save on delivery! Great strategy...lol.

I love those "barrels of nuts, raisins, and other bits to make your own snacks or trail mix"!

We love doing it here at home. We make a mix of dried fruit, with nuts and raisins! It's delicious! But here you can already mix it to your choice while still in the store! That's great!

You can find my post for this week here.

It does make sense, although I like to go to the store and select my own. But, I like the fact that if needed, I have a way to get my groceries. It is comforting and I had set that up for my parents as well, years ago. They had never used it, but, it was available, just in case.

I love those barrels too. I used to and still do at times make my own from the at-home ingredients. You hit the nail on the head. There is no reason for me to do it at home as the ingredients are cheaper here and in bulk, so I mix and match and put them together. I can do that job at the store. :)

Thank you so much for stopping by and dropping your link!

Personally, I don't like going to any stores as I don't like crowds or busy places. My wife doesn't have a problem with it so she normally ends up going. But yes, we also prefer going to the store to get our own stuff. And when I do need something that I need to get for myself, like at the hardware store, I also prefer going to get my own. It's like knowing I can pick my own stuff... I don't need to wait and see what someone else has chosen for me...lol. Silly...I know...

Thank you for all the effort you are putting into the #MarketFriday project!

-Blessed day Ma'am @dswigle! Having a marketplace like Sprouts is a great help to the community. You can get everything you need and the presence of organic items and products is best. People with different way of life will be so happy to shop there. Thanks a lot for sharing this to us here. As usual the flower is looking so beautiful!. And here is my entry for the #MarketFriday.

Oh, I have my post that the content is almost the same as yours. Though it's not in a supermarket but in a house where I bought vegetables. https://peakd.com/hive-140635/@mrnightmare89/direct-buying-vegetables-at-supplier

I'm not sure about the squash, I don't really love them but it is not that I do not eat it. Maybe just an average eater of a squash. Very true, it's good to bring a bag of peanuts but only a little. I'm afraid that it makes me full while hiking or walking. lol

That is awesome! We can both have market posts about Markets. :) I think that a house where you buy vegetables is sort of considered a market. I have found many recipes to make squash in different ways. I am always looking for good recipes. I think I like squash because my mom grew lots of different squash when I was growing up. It was easy to grow and she had 9 kids. :)

We all ate squash and whatever else was put in front of us. :) Hi, Paul~ @mrnightmare89 I hope all is going well for you! Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words and dropping your link!

In the same way, a person should go around and see everything and buy things that are good for his health. I want to say here is that a person must eat fruits even if he does not like them because they are very beneficial for his health.

Well, that is probably true to s certain degree! Fruits and vegetables are essential to get a nutritional balance. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words.

Are we eating organic? I don't think so and I'm not particularly concerned about it, I mean I don't want to become obsessed with it. Of course, I look for the cleanest products, but who offers guarantees? I think we have to be guided by common sense.

I like the shop and would love to have one nearby. I would definitely buy from there.

Denise, @dswigle, you are very meandering with the topics of your posts. This is one that reminds me of the early days when we didn't quite realize how vast the concept of #MarketFriday could be.
I'm glad you choose to post on such different topics, perhaps as an example and suggestion to the community.

Thanks for this and many more!

Well, This store is in my rotation and it carries most organic items, for the same price as the other stores, so, it gets my vote. Do I get obsessed with it? Ha! No! Like you, I choose the best selection that is available to me and buy it. The Washington, DC area has a lot of up-and-coming young people and older more established people, both of who prefer organic food, so the stores cater to those clients.

I do meander, don't I?? I wish I had a spectacular one coming up, but, life has been less than filled with excitement, so quiet and retiring will be the mottos of the week. :)

Thank you for always supporting #MarketFriday! I hope your week has been a little more than fabulous!

Hello Denise

Oh my gosh, I feel so absolutely horrendous for not writing to say hello for ages. I have been a bad friend 😕 I hope you have been well.

I like the look of Sprouts. It is the kind of place that I go to and spend waaaayyyy too much money lol. That trail mix selection is so cool, I would love to go and make my own muesli mixes. We have something similar, but not nearly as extensive.

And yup, I'm also a squash and pumpkin fan. Hmmm pumpkin fritter!!! 😁

Oh, my!!! You are calling my name!! Pumpkin Fritter! And pumpkin bread~ Zucchini bread~ Oh, the options are without limits.

We have a lot of stores like Sprouts, but, all of them do well. People are addicted to organic/natural/healthy food and I don't think that will be going away anytime soon. The mindblowing thing is that these stores aren't overpriced and much of their fresh produce is lower than chain supermarkets. While I am not sure how they manage that, I am happy they can manage it.

I have been well and frankly so busy, I have only been able to post once and sometimes twice a week since January. Things are finally becoming better (less busy) for me, so hopefully I will be around more. I never come over to see you! Talk about bad friends! I don't go see anyone anymore. :(

They have probably all forgotten me. Yikes.

Ooh, so fun! I LOVE natural foods stores, the minimal processing, the bulk foods, and oh the aromas! What is that special aroma of a natural foods store? It’s like if you took everything that is wonderful about basil, coffee and whole grains and turned it into an intoxicating smell. Love your wonderful pictures! A waltz through freshness!!

Yes!!! Exactly that~ That special scent that follows you around when you are in the store... Sometimes you even carry it out with you and bring it home... where it slowly dissipates. Until you go again.

This area has so many natural/health/organic stores. They keep the stores well stocked and the population keeps their coffers full, a match made in heaven.

You are so sweet! Thank you~ It is always so good to see you! I hope you are having a great weekend~!

Yes, that's true too. That fantastic aroma travels home with you. I always bring reusable bags, and I sometimes just have to give them a sniff because all the wonder and magic of a natural foods store is stored there for a little while after I get home.

Yes, I'm having a wonderful weekend. I hope you are too, @dswigle!

WoW, lots of healthy produce out there! Love squash, too! Here in the Philippines, squash fruits can be made as an ingredients to a healthy vegetable soup that is to be mixed by other vegetables like lady fingers, eggplants, and string beans then either sauteed with garlic, cooked in coconut milk, or simply with salt or fish sauce or fermented fish. Squash flowers are also a great ingredient for vegetable soups. By the way, heres my link for this week's #MarketFriday. 🤗❤️👍

This is my kind of grocery store. It reminds me of one that is here in Montreal but Sprouts is 5 times the size and I'm pretty sure they have far more fresh produce, since most of our fresh produce comes from the United States.

We don't have those huge melons yet though. I don't know why we can't import some of those. We have the round small ones for the same price range.

If I want variety like that in Sprouts, I have to go to several stores around the city to get it.

Thanks for the shopping trip.😊

You are not the only one who has said that about not being able to get the big melons. But, that is okay! The rounder melons are sweeter, while the more oval ones tend to be watery and less flavorful. I have to say that for me, the oval ones seem to taste more like watermelon.

I do like not having to go to bunches of stores unless I want to... and really who wants to go from store to store unless you have to.

I just got some fresh-picked corn on the cob today, it was amazing. I threw it on the grill and had a feast! First fresh corn of the season!

Thanks for stopping by!

This post is amazing! I read it twice :D A clean room and full, shining, multi-colored shelves act like hypnosis. And no people! My favorite time of shopping ))

I love the idea of making a mix of nuts to your taste, I wish I had this option here, or maybe it is somewhere because... it's cost them almost nothing plus satisfied customer. I love all nuts, but my preferences depends on ... time or season. I just know that now I love almonds and walnuts, but sometimes I become a fan of hazelnuts and cashews. As for pecans, they are my forever love :D :D

I can almost feel the aroma of the tea department. For unknown reasons, I don't often drink tea. Maybe it's because I'm lazy. But I always stop by the tea department to see what they have.

My favorite dish of pumpkin is cream soup. But my family also loves it in an open pie, it's my true lifesaver and a meal you can eat cool or heated, grab with you to the office, or eat when you come home starving. With chicken, or cheese, or mushrooms.

In fact, I was surprised by how is your Farmer's Market looks like. I mean it looks like a supermarket, unlike what I mean by a farmer's market. I should take photos next time and write a post about it too.😉

My farmer's markets probably look like yours, but, who knows? You will have to show us yours! :)

Usually, they are put together quite casually, some are at the town center, others on the side of the road by their farms, and others a get-together in some agreed upon place. Whatever is in season is sold, straight out of the garden. It is all very informal, but, great goodness.

Sprouts is a very organized, commercial organization that has farm-fresh products and is mostly organic. There is a regular one here and there, so I won't say 100% - although that is their aim. I don't consider it a real Farmer's Market. It looks like a grocery store to me, but, some days, I like that. Especially when I can make my own mix of things.

Hello, my friend. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your words. Much love. XOXO
